Earlier this afternoon, Spurs confirmed they have reached agreement with Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim for the transfer of Gylfi Sigurdsson. The news comes just one day after announcing the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas as new Head Coach and represents an intriguing piece of business for Fantasy managers ahead of the upcoming season:

The Icelandic star had excelled during his loan spell at Swansea last term – arriving in January, Sigurdsson had thrived in Brendan Rodgers’ 4-3-3 and ended the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) campaign with an average of 5.7 points per game; the highest of any midfielder. Many had expected him to follow Rodgers to Liverpool but Spurs have beaten the Reds to the punch and backed up the claims of Chairman Daniel Levy, who only yesterday stated:

It is important that we now look to develop the potential within the squads at all levels, whilst strengthening the First Team in the summer in key positions with players who will become part of the future success of the Club.

While doubts remain over the future of Luka Modric under the new regime, the Sigurdsson move presents Fantasy managers with a real quandary for the season ahead. The new boy now gives us a third viable contender to consider in the Tottenham midfield, with Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart both proven Fantasy forces. Sigurdsson is likely to be the least costly of the three, though, suggesting he may well prove the most popular but, with Villas-Boas’ side facing (WBA, NOR, rdg, QPR) between Gameweeks 2-5, many could opt to double up in light of such a favourable opening run.

For now, then, this is just a brief heads-up – we’ll have a further Moving Target article on his prospects to follow tomorrow.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I think it'll be overseas, Juve spec has failed to die away. He's seen first hand how formerly popular Gooners have become hate figures by going to Citch, I can't see him wanting that.

Switch to Milan, Juve, Inter would allow him to remain, largely, in Arsenal fans' good books.

Torres went for 50 mil. Carroll 35.

For - what I would consider - a top 5 striker in the world, based on last season, 40 mil is a steal.

And his injury history is history, also based on last season. He's not Hargreaves.

If Nasri was near £25 mill, then RVP should be over £50 mill. But it doesn't work like that. Depends sadly on how much City want to pay him.

    Carried Arsenal last season.

He sort of owes them for the injury seasons but after his heroics last year I think he's well within his rights to say what he has.

Will be very interesting if he remains an FF prospect with a certain Manchester club...

    Evening

In a way I'd be glad if RVP left the PL:
    1. Will take 13-14m of the budget and I'd be worried about not having him
    2. May not be immune to rotation with Podolski/Giroud about
    3. May not have a hand in as many of Arsenal's goals with Podolski/Giroud
    4. Could suffer a slow start after the Euros
    5. Less generic teams

Exactly. Aguero and Torres look good for the start of the season. Impossible to have both of them plus RVP with 100m unless the rest of the squad is poor. Think I'll start with 2 big hitters up front plus one cheap-mid range.

So it goes against 5) above. Everyone will have two of Roon, Aguero and Torres. With VP and Ars decent fixtures, it would have made things far more interesting at the start.

They'll finish third minimum. Let's not forget Poldi can play upfront.

Poldi upfront with Walcott/Gervinho/Ox/Miyaichi on the wings doesn't look too bad.

Or this whole project will flop and we'll finish 8th.

Silva, Scholes, Lamps, Gerrard etc still better than him.

Wilshere has only showed glimpses of what he can do. The ones above are the best at what they do.

Do you not think they are starting to recoup money on the stadium by now? Yeah other clubs have evolved since then but they need to strive for more. They have shown such consistency in CL qualification every year so they definitely have something about them. The clubs needs to impose more authority on Wenger or replace him because they are stuck in the same cycle every year the way things are going.

Wenger = massive for Arsenal. He's a freakin' wizard. Produces quality teams with virtually nothing at his disposal, constantly making money for the club.

I dislike the guy personally, but Arsenal should build a monument to him.

He is a great manager and I like his philosophy on the game but he seems reluctant to effectively strengthen when he loses these players who leave for 'the money'. His squad is gradually deteriorating every season and it's as if he feels it's a great personal achievement to the same strategy with an inferior squad but he isn't pushing the club forward and winning trophies. It's like a self imposed David Moyes scenario.

I think it's folly to assume Wenger wants things this way ... the club clearly hamper his efforts as they have a longview plan to remain profitable, pay off debt, and remain successful (top 4 every year, Champions league).

Normally, this would be difficult to impossible to do ... but Wenger's a special manager.

You can't compete with billionaire's willing to spend lavishly unless you are a bigger billionaire yourself. Trick is to outlast the trend and emerge later on.

I'm not a particular fan of that philosophy, but it's clear to me that that's what Arse operate under.

Don't get me wrong, I love the way Arsenal play. But Wenger is really an economist. In the long term he is fantastic for Arsenal, but he is very stubborn in his opinions.

Frankly, I believe that is exactly why RVP is not extending his contract. He wants signings of big players, and filling up of critical positions immediately, but I am pretty sure Wenger will not change his policy for anyone. He thinks way too long term.

Doos, again hope I painted the right picture of him.

Give him the French national team and he could do wonders with them.
Give him West Ham, and within 5 years, you could be targeting the CL. Ya I truly think, he's that brilliant.

But the problem lies when he refuses to change his principles that he abides by. He really should increase salary of his star players to match what other clubs play, but he will never do so. Arsenal make a genuine profit every-year, but why do they never have enough defensive cover?

Do you get what I'm saying?

It's a debt for equity swap. Cash that would have gone on interest repayments will in future be redirected to shareholder dividends, which actually bolster's the Glazer's potential net earnings.

It's funny how some managers get the blame and others don't. Wenger seems to be getting some criticism whilst Moyes isn't. Sure both are given funds (or not in the case of Moyes) to do the best they can? Has Wenger really had the cash from Fabs to spend or have the board grabbed it for the greater good of the club? I have no idea...

List of players on my watchlist for FPL 2012/13

Hart/De Gea (no rotating GKs to start until it is obv what GK combo works, burnt my rotating GKs last season)
Vidic/Kompany (if i get Hart then I will get Vidic. vice versa. Think Clichy, Rafael too much of rotation risk with Kolarov, Jones, Smalling lurking)
    Tompkins
Cuellar (if nails first team spot)
    McAuley/Ridgewell
    Siggy
    Mata/Hazard
    Noble/Nolan
    Aguero

    Anyone else folks are considering?

Vidic is a huge goal threat. United would be champions if he'd been fit, City would have struggled without Bad K. Hart and Vidic for me. Hart is nailed on, you never know when Fergie may chose to give Anders a run-out.

It's not an opinion though. Vidic has scored 44 goals in 406 games whereas Kompany has scored 14 in 310 therefore Vidic's goal threat is much higher.

Kompany has only scored three goals ('11-'12) whilst Vidic has scored 5 in ('10-'11).

That's almost twice as many, if I've done my metric-to-English units conversion correctly.
