Robin Van Persie has this evening delivered a telling statement on his official site that confirms that he will not sign a contract extension at the Emirates, placing his immediate future at Arsenal in serious doubt.

While Van Persie’s contract does not expire until next summer, his statement could well make his situation at the club untenable, with the Gunners’ skipper citing differences in opinion on how the club should progress…

“I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days. Out of my huge respect for Mr Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.”

Arsenal have followed this up with a statement of their own, indicating that they will look to keep their skipper for the final year of his current contract.

“Robin has one year to run on his current contract and we are confident that he will fulfil his commitments to the Club.”

Despite Arsenal’s best intentions, an array of suitors will be circling, with the aim to seal the signature of the Premier League’s most glittering talent before the August 31 transfer deadline.

For Fantasy managers this is, of course, hugely significant news. After an incredible season, the Dutchman is undoubtedly the red hot property in Fantasy terms but, with the various games preparing to open their doors, we now face weeks of uncertainty surrounding the future of the season’s potential star asset.

Manchester City will, of course, be touted as his likely destination and such a move would have huge repercussions in Fantasy terms, not just on Van Persie’s potential but also that of the likes of Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.

There’s little doubt then that this evening’s news is set to create a huge question mark over our pre-season tinkering and it seems likely that Van Persie is now to be written off as an initial signing, at least until we know more on the outcome of what could be a lengthy transfer saga. With Aguero also potentially affected by City’s pursuit of Van Persie, suddenly our pre-season thinking is turned on its head.

Further meetings with Arsenal’s backroom are promised, with Van Persie set to make statements in the near future. Fantasy managers will wait on those updates with keen anticipation.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Could be a potential nightmare. If this drags and City stay in the hunt, we have to doubt the value on offer from both Aguero and Van Persie with rotation surely likely if he ends up at the Etihad.

On the flipside, Giroud would emerge as a stronger option - hopefully in the mid-price.

I would be looking at Podolski as well, didn't really do his talent justice at Koln. Also, RVP out of the prem will mean less generic teams.. 😀

The Fantasy games must now consider upping their valuations of Giroud and Podolski on the basis that they are now more likely to earn regular starts. If Van Persie's future remains a doubt, we could see that pairing offer decent value. The impact of Van Persie's departure is surely going to be huge though.

Lots of questions. It's really shaken things up.

I would have thought the 9.0 mark. With 34+ starts, that looks very decent but, of course, we have to assess the void left by Van Pesie's departure. Both Jelavic and Cisse get a boost from this I reckon - certain starters and probably coming in around 10.0 or less.

Don't see why keep him now. His disagreements with Wenger and the Board will only cause problems in the dressing room. He won't play to his maximum potential too as he knows he would leave the club next season. Both parties will benefit if he leaves now.

Not touching an RVP-less arsenal's players with a bargepole

As brilliant as he's done losing his best and replacing can see this being one huge set back too many for Wenger, it's getting ridiculous now and not sure about likes of Gervinho stepping up whilst also hoping Giroud and the overrated Podolski hit the ground running

Sure, but they still have quality that should still knock over a good deal of teams. With good fixtures, they'll still be an option. I doubt we'll see too many taking the jump in initial lineups though.

Not so sure about that Mark

I think Arteta and especially Song are excellent players but they're not going to get you that much in terms of goal returns, Walcott shows what he can do when fit but in a purely attacking/mach winning sense Rvp was/is absolutely everything to them

I'll admit I don't know too much about Giroud. but it's a big ask for him/ Podolski to fill that void in a brand new league to the levels RVP did- not just finishing, the hold up and link up play was second to none

Wenger could pull yet another rabbit out the hat in the wake of this though of course

    great news for me

RVP finally proved that is is very cocky

but this is 1st time in my life that i respect him cause he figure it that football is about Thropy and with Arsenal he will never win anything ,so every credit to him cause of this decission

as for Arsenal-Guiran+Podolski-LOL! i wonder where they will finissh at the end of the season

To be fair, he didn't get a fair crack under McLeish. If Bent stays fit, there's little doubt that Villa have a fairly decent supply line in Albrighton and N'Zogbia if they can get their act together. Lot's of "ifs" though, I'll grant you 😉

Yeah I think one, maybe two Villa players are sound picks for the start of the season. All depends on prices, lineups and transfers of course.

So RVP wanted the club to run his ways after the statement about the disagreements about how the club should be run. He may be their captain and player but he is still a player and I think he has no right to question or govern the way the club runs. I am glad Wenger didn't bow down to him. A club is always bigger than a player.
