Man City get back to winning ways after a couple of poor performances, as Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany grabs the goals against Besiktas. QPR notch five for the second successive pre-season friendly, with Adel Taarabt pulling the strings as his side run riot against Asian side Kelantan. Djibril Cisse’s injury is an early concern for Mark Hughes, however…

Man City 2 Besiktas 0
The champions stepped up a gear in their third pre-season match after failing to find the net in the first two. While still devoid of his Euro 2012 contingent, Roberto Mancini fielded a strong looking side, with Vincent Kompany shaking off a hamstring knock sustained in the previous game against Dynamo Dresden to start alongside Kolo Toure in the heart of defence. Despite a multitude of star names on show, the City official website praised the performance of Abdul Razak in particular – the teenager carried much of his side’s attacking threat and set up Sergio Aguero for the opener. Kompany demonstrated his class once again by grabbing the second; carrying the ball out from the back, the City skipper executed a perfect chip over the opposition goalkeeper just before the hour mark. The Belgian was immediately subbed off, though, and, as Mancini continued to ring the changes during the second half, City lost their momentum but, despite suffering a scare when the Turkish side hit the post, cruised home comfortably in the end.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon; Zabaleta (Rekik 70), K Toure (Boyata 88), Kompany (Savic 57), Kolarov (Helan 88); A. Johnson (Mancini 88), Y Toure (Evans 75), Razak, Lopes (Weiss 46); Aguero (Jelavic 70), Tevez (Scapuzzi 64)

Kelantan 0 QPR 5
Mark Hughes’ side continued to rack up the goals in their Asia tour with another 5-0 win yesterday. Intriguingly, QPR lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Adel Taarabt handed a role in “the hole” behind Djibril Cisse, while both Fabio and Rob Green earned their first starts since joining up at Loftus Road this summer. According to the match report on the club’s official website, Taarabt was central to most of his side’s attacking moves and, creating chances aplenty from a more central position, picked up two assists. At 6.0 in FPL and 5.2 in the Sky Sports game, the Moroccan is definitely one to watch next term, though it’s arguable that this team shape may be more applicable to away games, bearing in mind that QPR picked up one point from nine road trips under Hughes last term.

Substitute Max Ehmer also provided a pair of assists, with Shaun Wright-Philips, Michael Harriman, Darren Mackie, Bobby Zamora and Heidar Helguson all getting amongst the goals in another emphatic performance from the London outfit. Despite the win, Hughes’ joy was somewhat tempered by the hamstring problem that forced Cisse off after just 20 minutes – the manager admitted post-match:

Djib felt some reaction in his hamstring. We’ll have to wait for a couple of days before it settles down and then we can make a more definite decision. It’s probably too early to make a guess on how long he’ll be out for…We’re hopeful it won’t be any longer than a week to ten days, but it’s too early to say for definite.

QPR Starting XI: Green (Murphy 46); Fabio, Ferdinand (Connolly 60), Hill (Onuoha 46), Traore (Harriman 46); Mackie, Diakite (Doughty 60), Ephraim, Wright-Phillips; Taarabt (Zamora 60); Cisse (Johnson 20) (Helguson 77).

The Premier League is starting on my 18th birthday. Now I don't want anything like a car or anything along those lines, but all I want is to see my captain Torres score a hat-trick during the DGW 🙂

    Team: 'Hazard a Guess'

    Ruddy Jaaskelainen

    Terry Lescott Gorkss Fonte McCartney

    Hazard Bale Taarabt Pilkington Noble

    Aguero Torres Graham

2 Mil in the bank to do Torres to Rooney GWK2. Terry to Vidic later down the track.

Going with 3 x 4.0 defenders which will be rotated to fit next to my big 2 defenders. Not sure if I've chosen the right keepers either. Any other problems/thoughts? Cheers.

Yeah, I agree to an extent. Think it's a bit foolish going with 5 double outfielders, then swapping 2 out before GW 3 to field a full side.

But Torres' fixture isn't too bad GW2. I'll just keep him in if another one of my players gets injured. Or bench the other player, transfer him out GW3.

Complications for those looking for WBA & West Ham defensive coverage: both clubs are currently trying to sign Hamburger SV's Serbian central defender Slobodan Rajković.

Rajković has been told to leave HSV with immediate effect after a training-ground punch-up with a fellow player, followed by an amusing interview with the local press in Hamburg slagging off HSV manager Thorsten Fink. Classy.

Rajković's only aim is to join an EPL club, although there could be work permit problems.

Not seen many, nay, any RMTs with Rodallega in.

I know his shots to goals ratio was woeful at Wigan, but Fulham's opening fixtures and the number of goals they scored at home last season is really tempting me - surely he's just as good a punt as Pog, Graham, Lambert etc?

    Could be great differential no?

Replys to Questions on other page..

Cuellar is a RB or CH.
Big pre season for Bramble, would take a few massive performances for him to start the season. Id get rid if I was o'neil, he has 3 class games then has 6 shit games. Not consistent enough.
O'Neill just tried Richardson as Attacking centre Mid in our friendly, he missed 3 decent chances, 2 of which were 6 yards out, bit too erractic to play there & he aint gonna oust Sess from that position IMO. If we got Warnock which is a complete rumour BTW, he will find it hard to oust Richardson at LB.

I just read SAF saying rotation was damaging to his side's Champion's League fortunes last season - surely this would strengthen the case for DDG to be #1 for the season?

if you were ever gonna take a punt on Torres it's in a DGW straight after he won the Golden Boot. low risk really as most will take him out after GW 1

Ahh, but he did get on the UEFA short list for player of the year...

      ...how much is Les Davis?

Seriously though, it's a punt. Chelsea have a DGW against mediocre opposition (no offence, Stoke fan and I class us in the bracket away from home)

United have a tough game away at Everton, i would think most folk will be saving enough cash to go Torres > Rooney pretty sharpish after GW1, perhaps GW2.

Also, the alternative Chelsea attacking options are just as risky.

Hazard, Marin are yet to kick a ball in FPL, Mata is at the Olympics and could be rested, Lampard is debatable to get 90 minutes in both games due to age and even after that - we have no idea what RDM will do formation wise.

If I pick Torres, he will be captain.

Just had my first real effort at putting a team together and came up with this little lot. Any chance of some feedback (esp negative), so I can see where the holes are, of which I am sure there are plenty:

    Krul - Begovic
    A Cole - Clichy - Coloccini - Hangeland - Cuellar
    Hazard - Valencia - Pienaar - Scholes - Noble
    Aguero - Torres - Graham

I'll be surprised if AVB doesn't try to keep Pienaar

Everton is a "honey trap" as Grimmaldi nicely put it.

But pienaar at everton will be a very good prospect.. Everton starts badly is the only cons

    a) Ivan Lescott Hangeland Cuellar McCartney

    b) Ivan Lescott Kaboul McCartney Nelsen

I'm tempted by B as I could pick 3 solid each week, but A does offer decent rotation between the cheapies. Thoughts? Cheers

Does anyone have faith in the Arsenal defense this season? Thinking of having Szczesny for GK. They cant be as bad as last season and top 4 means clean sheets?

I may do later on. Year after year I fail to cash in on him. JT at the same price for GW1 is too tempting though.

Anyone else not too keen on having Pog? Not great fixtures and nobody else around his price range for a straight swap.

I was going to start with him but don't hold out much hope for him even with a dgw. Got rid rather than waste a transfer on him.

i dont like the idea of having him but he should be guarnteed 4 points..anything after that is a bonus..worth the punt with the dgw

Not going anywhere near my team. Those 4 pts just won't be worth it

Don't get tempted. Unless that Maiga looks good then you may have a get out clause if priced right. Otherwise you may as well kick off with a Graham/Holt/Cisse.

Was Marc Wilson classified as a midfielder last season and thats why he got a bad score even though he played most games?
