Man City get back to winning ways after a couple of poor performances, as Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany grabs the goals against Besiktas. QPR notch five for the second successive pre-season friendly, with Adel Taarabt pulling the strings as his side run riot against Asian side Kelantan. Djibril Cisse’s injury is an early concern for Mark Hughes, however…

Man City 2 Besiktas 0
The champions stepped up a gear in their third pre-season match after failing to find the net in the first two. While still devoid of his Euro 2012 contingent, Roberto Mancini fielded a strong looking side, with Vincent Kompany shaking off a hamstring knock sustained in the previous game against Dynamo Dresden to start alongside Kolo Toure in the heart of defence. Despite a multitude of star names on show, the City official website praised the performance of Abdul Razak in particular – the teenager carried much of his side’s attacking threat and set up Sergio Aguero for the opener. Kompany demonstrated his class once again by grabbing the second; carrying the ball out from the back, the City skipper executed a perfect chip over the opposition goalkeeper just before the hour mark. The Belgian was immediately subbed off, though, and, as Mancini continued to ring the changes during the second half, City lost their momentum but, despite suffering a scare when the Turkish side hit the post, cruised home comfortably in the end.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon; Zabaleta (Rekik 70), K Toure (Boyata 88), Kompany (Savic 57), Kolarov (Helan 88); A. Johnson (Mancini 88), Y Toure (Evans 75), Razak, Lopes (Weiss 46); Aguero (Jelavic 70), Tevez (Scapuzzi 64)

Kelantan 0 QPR 5
Mark Hughes’ side continued to rack up the goals in their Asia tour with another 5-0 win yesterday. Intriguingly, QPR lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Adel Taarabt handed a role in “the hole” behind Djibril Cisse, while both Fabio and Rob Green earned their first starts since joining up at Loftus Road this summer. According to the match report on the club’s official website, Taarabt was central to most of his side’s attacking moves and, creating chances aplenty from a more central position, picked up two assists. At 6.0 in FPL and 5.2 in the Sky Sports game, the Moroccan is definitely one to watch next term, though it’s arguable that this team shape may be more applicable to away games, bearing in mind that QPR picked up one point from nine road trips under Hughes last term.

Substitute Max Ehmer also provided a pair of assists, with Shaun Wright-Philips, Michael Harriman, Darren Mackie, Bobby Zamora and Heidar Helguson all getting amongst the goals in another emphatic performance from the London outfit. Despite the win, Hughes’ joy was somewhat tempered by the hamstring problem that forced Cisse off after just 20 minutes – the manager admitted post-match:

Djib felt some reaction in his hamstring. We’ll have to wait for a couple of days before it settles down and then we can make a more definite decision. It’s probably too early to make a guess on how long he’ll be out for…We’re hopeful it won’t be any longer than a week to ten days, but it’s too early to say for definite.

QPR Starting XI: Green (Murphy 46); Fabio, Ferdinand (Connolly 60), Hill (Onuoha 46), Traore (Harriman 46); Mackie, Diakite (Doughty 60), Ephraim, Wright-Phillips; Taarabt (Zamora 60); Cisse (Johnson 20) (Helguson 77).

Those who are picking De Gea.... If he doesnt play the first match are you going to trade him for another keeper? Or are you going to leave it up to your bench keeper?

Starting Federici over him anyway due to the double. De Gea will start every game, dunno why people think otherwise

I am playing Federici over DDG.
Everton away isn't easy and Federici will get probably 4 minimum when you consider save points + minus points for goals conceded.

    Just pondering the merits of:

    a) DDG + Fed + Ivan = 17m
    b) Cech + 4 + Vidic = 17.5

I'll stick with a) I think as that .5 and spare GKpr will come in handy

Keepers are about rotating with each other for clean sheets who's your other keeper? And probably don't want to double up with your defenders a the beginning of season so who are your other defenders?

Ddg and federici seems like a popular keeper combo atm, united defence and federici starter at 4.5 with double game week first if ddg has Olympic hangover

OK, for 6m you can have Graham, or you can have Pog + 1m in the bank. Pog doesn't have to be great to be reasonable value at 5m, has a DGW, and if he does get some goals could be great value over the season. If he looks terrible you can get Graham in GW2, if not you have 1m to help transfers in other positions.

That said, I'm going for Graham. It just depends what you reckon Pog's chances are of coming good.

Anyone taking a gamble on Joe Cole? He fits in with Rogers; playing style.

And what do we think to Balotelli or Tevez as alternatives to Aguero? Who is more likely to start? I have a feeling this could be a big season for Balo after hos 2012 showing..

I'm looking at Aquilani if he gets starts. Not sure he's been a real chance at Pool yet. Not looking at ant Pool players for the first few weeks though, horrible run of fixtures

I'm not into Liverpool players at all atm due to last seasons performance and their tough start, perhaps will look into it if they play well under Rodgers and when their schedule lightens up.

In regards to Tevez/Balo I'm also very interested becasuse they are 2.5 cheaper than Aguero which obv frees significant funds elsewhere. I think Tevez is more likely to start and with Balo there's just always a risk he will be completely disinterested or get sent off. Balo can also play on the 'wing' and perhaps rival Nasri for that spot, leaving Aguero and Tevez up front.

Truth be told City attackers is a minefield and Aguero is the safest striker, I just dont know if he limits my options elsewhere too much as I will also have Rooney.

Quite generic, but any pointers/suggestions appreciated.

    Federici

    Ivanovic - Lescott - Hangeland

    Hazard - Tarrabt - Sinclair - Kagawa - Noble

    Torres - Aguero

Subs: De Gea / Graham / Gorkss / McCartney

    Cheers!

Who do you think will keep the most clean sheets of the promoted bunch?
    Last seasons stats;
    Southampton conceded 46 goals - 18H, 28A - 19 CS, 11H, 8A
    West Ham conceded 48 - 26 H, 22 A - 17 CS, 7H, 10A
    Reading conceded 41- 18 A, 23 A - 20 CS, 12H, 8A

From that bunch, Reading or Southampton look the best from a rotating point of view.

West Ham will keep the most due to Big Sam's experience imo. Plus they have a great opening run so worth a punt over the other 2.

Here's my midfield and my reason behind choosing it:

Hazard: DGW against weak teams. Especially if Wigan play wing back, Hazard will run riot for sure.

Silva: Great fixture to start with, arguably the most reliable performer, especially when he have rested for more than a month when season start.

Dyer: Great Fixture coming up. Cheap and attacking. (more attacking than Sinclair, bur cheaper)

Noble: Pen taker, taking some set-piece. Cheap

Maloney: Pen taker (unless GOmez play) Attacking, Cheap.

So any bad decisions made, and is there a chance I can improve my midifled (providing similar price) ? 😀
