We’ve a number of things in development right now, including the new event maps to be added to the members area, a new version of the season ticker which will get the tool back in the sidebar on every page of the site and the members’ pre-season player projections.

I’m directly involved in the latter, working with Fantasy Football statistician Chris Atkinson, the creator of the statistical model that powered his “Rate My Team” website over the past two seasons. Last year the stats brains amongst the Scout Team, namely Pure Olivia and Superior Being, spent a lot of time looking at Chris’ model and came to the conclusion that he had created something really rather special.

The model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence or factored in.

When it came to improving our projections for the coming season, it was a no-brainer for us. We approached Chris to be involved and we’re delighted to say he joined the Scout team ranks earlier this year. We’ve been spending several weeks working with the existing model and hatching plans for improvements. However, the pre-season projections have been the priority and they are now close to their first release.

Right now we’re factoring in the effect of the African Cup of Nations on those likely to participate but, once that is added to the model, we’ll be very close to a first set of numbers.

We’re looking to publish full projections for every player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. We’re also looking to deliver short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule of those crucial budget purchases.

I’m certainly encouraged by the numbers being produced at the moment and have no doubt that, by bringing in Chris’ model, we’ve taken a big step to delivering our the best set of pre-season projections yet. I’ll hopefully bring you more on this in the next few days…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've noticed things are getting a bit generic, every team seems to have Hazard. I know this is pretty generic but marks out of 10?

    De Gea | Federici
Ivanovic Lescott | Cuellar Demel Clyne
Siggy Pienaar Kagawa | McAnuff Noble
    Aguero Torres Graham
    +2m

    gw2/3: Torres->Rooney, Ivanovic->Verthonghen

    Thoughts?

      It looks decent.

      My only concerns would be
      a) two cheapos in defence may be risky as we arnt sure who is nailed on
      b) no spurs attacking coverage

I don't have kagawa however I think he could do well and will be straight in my team if he hits the season off well.

      Overall. 7.5/10

French league has provided many imports in past 2/3 years, most have been a hit. Newcastle the main beneficiaries. This guys stats are just as impressive as Cisse, Ba etc. My source at Newcastle says the same scout who picked up Cabaye wanted Maiga but when he went on strike at Sochaux they got cole feet. Pardew didn't want another trouble maker (they had just dumped Barton as he upset the dressing room)

He's a definite starter for Big Sam ahead of Carlton Cole. The team will be set up around him with Nolan coming from deep, Vaz Te and Taylor on right and left.

5.5 is definitely the WRONG price get involved before the band wagon rolls

I am thinking of Bent, and I don't think it's risky.

Lambert likes attacking football. Could be a great combo.

Bent is on my watchlist. Proven PL goalscorer now not playing under a manager who chopped his balls off. McCleish probably can't spell attack, much less try it. Lambert is a different kettle of fish. Can't fit him atm, but keeping my eyes on him.

    Would you prefer:

    1. Friedal & Vidic
    2. De Gea & Verthonghen?

Because if you have Terry in your team and intend to get Vidic, then this choice determines your keeper. I think Verthonghen has better attacking threat than Vidic so i'm going De Gea & Ivanovic rather than Friedal & Terry. Does anyone agree?

    Maiga cont..

French league has provided many imports in past 2/3 years, most have been a hit. Newcastle the main beneficiaries. This guys stats are just as impressive as Cisse, Ba etc. My source at Newcastle says the same scout who picked up Cabaye wanted Maiga but when he went on strike at Sochaux they got cold feet. Pardew didn’t want another trouble maker (they had just dumped Barton as he upset the dressing room)

He’s a definite starter for Big Sam ahead of Carlton Cole. The team will be set up around him with Nolan coming from deep, Vaz Te and Taylor on right and left.

5.5 is definitely the WRONG price get involved before the band wagon rolls

Wiki only tells half the story but he is a 1 in 2 striker for a mid table french team. Decent optionality and allows you to spend extra cash on midfield. Definite class above Graham/Pog/Petric etc

My understanding is that we got cold feet only when we realised we could sign cisse. We had him him for a medical long after he went on strike. Graham carr was well keen on him, so he should be decent. When we were linked with him, I understood him to be better suited to the right side of a front three, rather than a centre forward. Not sure though.

No, McClean atm. Thought about him when he first joined. Out of all the strikers in the 5 - 5.5 bracket he is the most appealing. Don't see much for Pog, DGW or not. Tempted by Pienaar and N'Zog over McClean though.

I'm afraid you will be disappointed if you think Michu will be under £6.5m. No way will he not be more De Guz. I don't hate the Noble Maloney baloney thing, I just think they will fail. Both will be in struggling teams and Noble particularly relying on pens that may not come or he may miss!

I think Maloney offers more than just pens. He's a very useful player who can score from open play (i think he only scored 1 pen out of 3 goals last season) Noble was just the best option at 5, I have gone with Maiga instead, who is likely to lead the line for West Ham and upgraded Noble to Dyer, who offers more. I think it is a good switch

also the stats on Maloney can be misleading. He was injured for first half of the season. His arrival into the Wigan side co-incided directly with Wigan's upturn in fortunes. He's a very good little player. I can see him hitting 10 goals this season

no point in getting reading players. you will end up benching them in gw3, taking a hit, or wasting a transfer on getting them out. this will even out whatever score they get in gw1, and most likely it will be more negative than even.

    Alreet lads

Have I hit the dead zone yet? I'm stuck in the UK on holiday and not really sure what time it starts. I came on earlier in the week and people weren't so friendly!!

I've hardly had any time to check the posts on here, and had even less time to work on my team, but i'd like to post my first RMT. Please let me know if its got any big holes.

    De Gea, Jaask
    Lescott, Kaboul, Cuellar, Demel, Mariappa
    Silva, Dempsey, Pienaar., Noble, Guthrie
    Rooney, Aguero, Graham

This is the team I will work towards. GW1 would have Cole (or Ivanovic), Hazard and Torres, for Kaboul, Dempsey and Rooney

Dempsey is only if he stays at fulham, otherwise bale or Sigurdsson

A lot more than most of last years 4.5m options (apart from dyer)

Your wish is granted! Haha. I'm very happy we've signed him, and I expect that he will be playing quite advanced in our midfield, and should have at least a share of set-pieces if Harte doesn't play. Only problem at the moment is whether he'll start every game to begin with, hopefully that will be clear by the end of pre-season though.

Cheers, China ... still just a touch early for Deadzone, but you're close.

Those earlier-than-DZers can be right pain, eh? 😀

That team looks fine for this point of the preseason. With so much likely/possible changes to come, it's tough to get more concrete than that.

Seems to me Aguero AND Silva is a bit too much ... but that's me.

I reckon man city will explode off the blocks again. They should play the main guys most of the time before champions league starts. Then I can downgrade if necessary.
