We’ve a number of things in development right now, including the new event maps to be added to the members area, a new version of the season ticker which will get the tool back in the sidebar on every page of the site and the members’ pre-season player projections.

I’m directly involved in the latter, working with Fantasy Football statistician Chris Atkinson, the creator of the statistical model that powered his “Rate My Team” website over the past two seasons. Last year the stats brains amongst the Scout Team, namely Pure Olivia and Superior Being, spent a lot of time looking at Chris’ model and came to the conclusion that he had created something really rather special.

The model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence or factored in.

When it came to improving our projections for the coming season, it was a no-brainer for us. We approached Chris to be involved and we’re delighted to say he joined the Scout team ranks earlier this year. We’ve been spending several weeks working with the existing model and hatching plans for improvements. However, the pre-season projections have been the priority and they are now close to their first release.

Right now we’re factoring in the effect of the African Cup of Nations on those likely to participate but, once that is added to the model, we’ll be very close to a first set of numbers.

We’re looking to publish full projections for every player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. We’re also looking to deliver short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule of those crucial budget purchases.

I’m certainly encouraged by the numbers being produced at the moment and have no doubt that, by bringing in Chris’ model, we’ve taken a big step to delivering our the best set of pre-season projections yet. I’ll hopefully bring you more on this in the next few days…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      86 Ferdinand and Lolarov;

Have funny feeling that Ramires and Cabaye will run riot, Would try for another Pool player than Charlie; hell my prediction is that Aquilani and Cole at 6.0 (hell even Sterling @4.5) will be hotter tickets than '4.7 secs on the ball Adam'. Defoe and Dzeko (86 them too) just wreak of Auto Complete. Theoretically you could keep hitting the button until you find something you like.

To be fair to his question, you could have easily just cued up another 3+ assist display from Samir. If that's not show-n-prove then Mancini is definitely the manager. What other team would a player not be nailed-on after some of his performances? Now if you would have said for his country I would have agreed wholeheartedly. At 3.8% ownership and SOU, and QPR at home in the first three they'll (MCFC) be at 8 goals by second half of QPR.

As another slightly more famous Nasty Nas once said, "sleep is the cousin of death".

Intriguing news to hear Cahill has left Everton. Would be interesting to see who benefits.

Here's my understanding of Everton's formation at the end of last season - often labeled 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 but in my view once you check the positions it's closer to 4-2-3-1:

    ...............Howard
    Hibbert Jagielka Heitinga Baines
    ..........Gibson.....Fellaini
    Osman......Cahill.....Pienaar
    ..................Jelavic

Assuming Pienaar stays, who will replace Cahill in the hole? Osman is a strong contender as I recall him playing there on a few occasions last season. Has some goalscoring history too. Naismith can play on the right wing and could then shuffle into his spot.

But Naismith also is known for his previous partnership with Jelavic at Rangers and Moyes would want them playing off each other, in which case perhaps Naismith could play as supporting striker in the hole and Osman stay right wing.

There could also be a surprise player up Moyes' sleeve, who knows. I doubt it though as money is tighter than insert your dodgy metaphor here. Selling Cahill is probably paying for Pienaar. From an FPL point if view I'd prefer Osman playing in the hole for enhanced returns...

Naismith might not be in the proper window to get the run there he needs. Of course they played together before but Fellaini is probably more match fit right now. And Rodwell will be next to Gibson...or even behind Jelly...if his Ramen noodle ligaments aren't in question. Naismith will be the last 20 minutes punt; or the first 65 depending on where he is fitness-wise. Fellaini offers ball dispersal up the pitch and ball pressure and ball-win-back-ability essentially two vying for CM and DM each if you add the pensioner Neville in their as well as Distin and Heitinga in for for laughs. And Moyes does like to laugh at our plans A LOT, like when he throws Gueye and Anichebe in there as false-(9...yeah right...lol).

      Hibbert/Jags/Heitinga/Baines
      Osman/Gibson/Felli/Pienaar
      Naismith
      Jelly

Only alterations could be Coleman down the right at either full back or right mid and maybe Rodwell down the right as well as Moyes loves the Gibson/Felli dynamic as Fellaini plays much, much better alongside Gibson than anyone else.

Generic doesn't mean bad. For instance i haven't seen many with Newcastle defenders but it's probably for a good reason, they're opening fixtures aren't the best. Like your midfield bar ireland.

Nzog had a poor season last year albeit he has ability and could bounce back. He is one to monitor.

McCLean for me was great value last year and done excellant but is he worth his new price tag? I would prefer larrson over McCLean.

I think pienaar could do very well this season as long as everton don't start "slow" !!

Like it a lot, even Walters. But I would start Sinclair over Noble, I feel like Swansea v QPR has loads of goals in it, whereas I see WH being stingy at home, and Villa not very potent...For gods-sakes man, you have Bent already and no other QPR Swans coverage...they're playing QPR! if someone mde me put my moms life on one team giving away a penalty it would be the Rangers. Anything else is sacrilegious

Don't worry, downgrade the forward line after the DGW, go for a cheapie. More importantly, 86 McClean, the scouting reports of teams will limit him, hell they're playing Arsenal, he would have gotten nothing if a turf demon hadn't pulled Mertz to the ground. Your 6.5 would 200% further if you got Alex Song. Sunderland is not the team to mess with GW1...

Hazard, Noble, Maloney, McClean, Pilkington(Michu if 6/6.5)

Under Lambert, Bent may well prosper.

Is Kompany worth 7.5m? Due to City's European commitments, Clichy & Lescott are likely to be rotated with Kolorov & Toure respectively. Not only Kompany brings a stable position in one of the best defences, he also offers great goal threat. Lescott does not have good goal threat whilst playing for City(members check the stats). I for one have Kompany in my team, is anyone else forking out extra for City captain Kompany?

I don't think i can find that extra million. And why wouldn't kompany be rotated when it comes to european commitments? I agree clichy will be prone to rotation but not sure about lescott

no defender is worth 7.5. If on pens and free kicks maybe, like Baines a couple years back. but kompany definitely not worth 7.5 or 7.0.

I don;t think Kolo Toure will be at City for much longer, so Lescott won't be the same rotation risk as the full backs,as is only real competition is Savic.. I take your point about Kompany, but I feel I could do better with the extra 1 million.

Agreed. We all want the best from every team in all positions but something has to give. Rooney (if up front) seems essential as would Terry if you favour Chels def etc. etc. Get the ones that really count, imho.

No. Lescott is as nailed on and in my opinion is the more likely scorer. Like last year Lescott will be in my team from game one for the season (barring injury).

Dunno how accurate I am in saying this but CB's are not often rotated, at least I rarely remember Lescott being rotated. He might miss 1 or 2 games but very little , not at all enough to justify spending an extra million which I feel would be precious elsewhere. I guess Kompany is the absolute most nailed though and he did have greater attack return last season , but not worth the extra mil for me

Hmm. Just tinkering around with my team. Having Bent instead of Rooney with Valencia for back up instead is tempting. Or I'll have Silva instead of Aguero. I don't like the look of an unbalanced team. Want to rotate my captaincy between my strikers and mids also.

Nah, just joshing around. I don't RMT either - never once last year and no plans this year, either. Don't see the point of it, for my uses. I can gather what I need by reading, watching the games, and just plain F'ing up on my own!

Saw him at Real Madrid last season in a 1-1 draw, he ran the show from the first min and scored a belter with 3 mins to go. Iv'e loved the little fella ever since.
