QPR keep up their winning ways with a narrow 2-1 triumph in the final game of their pre-season tour of Asia. Bobby Zamora is amongst the goals once again for Mark Hughes’ outfit, with Samba Diakite, Adel Taarabt and Fabio (playing as a right winger) the main protagonists. Tim Cahill looks to be on his way out of Everton after the Toffees accept a bid from New York Red Bulls, while Sir Alex Ferguson reveals Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans may not be ready in time for the new season as United’s central defensive crisis deepens:

Persebaya 1 QPR 2
Mark Hughes’s side finished their Asia tour with a 100% record after their third successive win yesterday. After back-to-back 5-0 victories in their previous two games, QPR didn’t get things their own way, though, and conceded their first goal of pre-season on 17 minutes – Rob Green failed to gather a long ball into the box, allowing home forward Soler the chance to slot home from close-range. Samba Diakite, in particular, was lauded by the QPR website for a superb showing in central midfield but it was on-loan Fabio who again played his part offensively. Playing on the right of midfield for Hughes’ side, the Brazilian was hauled down in the box on 26 minutes, with Adel Taarabt slotting home the resultant spot-kick. Fabio – at 4.5 in FPL and 4.3 in the Sky Sports game – already looks set for plenty investment but the added possibility of game time in midfield will really catch the attention of Fantasy managers.

In a game played under sweltering conditions, the pace began to slow as the match progressed but Taarabt maintained his strong recent form and continued to provide plenty menace going forward. It was no surprise when the Moroccan and Fabio were involved in the visitors’ winner; their combination eventually played in Jamie Mackie on the right, with the sub teeing up Bobby Zamora to slot home. The former Fulham man has now notched in all three of his side’s games so far and, priced at 6.5 in FPL and 8.2 in the Sky Sports game, may be one to watch going into the new season.

QPR Starting XI: Green (Cerny 45), Onuoha, Ferdinand (Doughty 45), Connolly, Hill (Ehmer), Fabio (Harriman), Taarabt, Diakite (Park), Traore (Wright-Phillips), Zamora (Ephraim), Helguson (Mackie 45).

In Other News…
Tim Cahill may well have played his last game for Everton after the club confirmed they have accepted a bid of £1m from New York Red Bulls for the Australian’s services. Cahill – who is due to serve a three-match suspension at the start of the season after his dismissal in the Toffees’ final league match of 2011/12 – was a huge disappointment last time round, notching just twice in 35 appearances, and his likely departure now increases the chances of other candidates in David Moyes’ first XI.

With the Everton boss favouring a 4-5-1, a role in “the hole†is up for grabs now – Marouane Fellaini, Leon Osman and Steven Naismith seem the most obvious options; the Belgian impressed there towards the end of the previous campaign, notably in the 4-4 draw against United, but Naismith’s partnership with Nikica Jelavic at Glasgow Rangers may work in his favour. Certainly, Fellaini and Osman hold the most appeal from an Fantasy perspective, mainly as Naismith is classified as a forward in both FPL and the Sky Sports game. All three come in at 6.5 in FPL, though Fellaini is definitely the most intriguing in the Sky game; at 6.1, he is far cheaper than Osman (7.5), with Naismith setting you back 6.7. The move perhaps edges Steven Pienaar towards a Toffees return. With Cahill’s exit helping Moyes balance the books, the South African could be poised to make his way back to Goodison from Spurs – averaging over 5 ppg during his loan spell last term, Pienaar was outstanding value for money and, coming in at 6.5 in FPL this time round, is surely set to pick up plenty investment if he seals his move back to Merseyside.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s central defensive worries show no sign of abating, with the news that United skipper Nemanja Vidic may not be fit in time for the new season. The Serb missed the vast majority of the previous campaign and was expected to be ready for the opener at Everton on Monday August 20 but the Old Trafford boss admitted there are question marks hanging over both Vidic and Jonny Evans, going on to tell a press conference in Shanghai:

It’s not 100 per cent that Jonny Evans and Vida will start the season. Jonny will start running today. Vida and Phil Jones started full training today, which is very positive. If I can keep Rio fit, then Vidic and Jones should give us ample cover.

With Chris Smalling ruled out for 10 weeks due to a metatarsal injury and Evans still recovering from an ankle injury, Scott Wootton has partnered Rio Ferdinand at centre-half in the club’s two pre-season matches thus far. Jones has now returned to training after time off due to Euro 2012 duties, however, and could now come into contention in our Fantasy thinking if Vidic and Evans fail to recover in time; both Jones and Ferdinand are priced at 6.0 in FPL and come in at 7.0 and 6.8 respectively in the Sky Sports game.

If your teams are that good, why do you show them to everyone! Wont people nick your ideas? Isnt the idea to compete! Slightly confused by all the teams up here! Because if they are any good then the one with the different team isnt gonna say so is he? Jesus! There cant be that many good players about can there? Why hasnt anybody got Rooney? I thought he was supposed to be good!

1 out of every 4 players in this game have Rooney. I don't have Rooney though.

Keeping your team secret is against the spirit of this website. We exchange opinions here for our mutual benefit.

Anyhow, there's not team that's better than all the others. Well, teams with Diaby in them will generally be better, but I digress.

Getting others' opinions and giving our opinions and having our opinions constructively criticised is useful for perspective and keeping an open mind.

          Dzeko-probably not

Too much $ tied up in your goalies.

Jones-too expensive for the risk of playing somewhere out of position in a bad way

Defoe-No, bound to get the hot urine treatment by AVB

marin-Many my laugh but he, and Piazon are the reason Torres is not in my squad for the DGW (double game week). Will probably outscore Torres; but don't tell anyone I said that. The funny part is, everytime people here try to play someone for a dummy and steer them to a chump like Diaby, it seems to create the 'broke-clock syndrome'...beware haters.

He just doesn't believe in Diaby. Diaby is the best French midfielder in the world. People just don't like him because he's injured all the time. But Robin Van Persie was also injured all the time, but now everyone wants him in their team. Pick Diaby. You won't regret it.

Pogrebnyak is a good option if you think Rooney is too expensive or if you don't like players that look like Shrek.

I really do have Diaby in my team. I'll send you a screenshot on 18 August if you still doubt me.

Joey Barton is a windup by MS.RED19 though. The man is suspended for many months. Don't pick him.

Try to pick Chelsea and Reading players in your initial team, but transfer one out after game week 1 and another out after game week 2 because those teams don't play in game week 3.

You'll never know what will happen. If you pick four players who actually play in the DGW, you get 4 points for each of them even if they do nothing great during the two games. It's also possible for both teams to keep clean sheets or for both teams to score lots of goals. You just don't know.

yer I suppose. never thought of it that way. So, wheres best to spend the money on better players or do you spread evenly. Say 1 good gk, 2 good defs, 2/3 good mids and 2 good strikers and the rest pants?

Don't pick any pants players. When the 11 you choose for a particular game don't all play, you want the substitutes to actually play and score points.

Start with players who cost a little but are awesome (like Pogrebnyak, Diaby and Fabio) and you will find that you have enough money left over to buy Euro 2012 winners, players who look like Shrek, or Dutch mercenaries.

Playing each other is not a big worry, especially if they are both offensive/attacking players. Their points are all you care about. Be wary of a Goalie/Defender offset by the attacker of the opposing team, that would be shooting yourself in the foot. So yes, they would offset. As for Marin and Piazon I would wait on them, but keep their prices in your thinking and candidates/weak links to trade them for if they look to have a chance of getting at least 50-90 minutes a game...yes very hard to determine and that might be above your skill level at this time but withh Torres at almost 23% ownership a differential from another team would be better especially if Torres does nothing, I would pick Ramires to be safe with Chelsea coverage.

The reason we share info is because we're smart enough to know that we don't know everything. There are even people that post here that live next to training grounds and have inside knowledge on a Thursday that Player X hasn't trained in a week. There are always, factors unknown, that open-source brand sharing can benefit us all. It's better to ignore the elitist and those too cool for school to just ignore you but would rather strangely mock.

Well obviously the cheep goalkeeper combo hasn't be cracked by anybody. They are going Friedel/ Federici or DDG/ Federici that is 10 or 10.5m. Too much for something unproven. I tend every year to WC early, usually in the first IBreak. This year I plan to wait till GW 5. My goalkeeper combo is wort 8.5m which is 2m less. I believe in short term those 2m will improve my defense attack. That is the difference between Torres and Rooney. WHam was good defensively and at home and away so I am not gonna worry about benched CS's.

When I WC the things will be more clear and I will reevaluate. I want 2m for any early possible bandwagon.

P.S. I don't like Man U defense with all those injuries, that has screwed me in the past and DDG is rotation risk. Friedel could be replaced by other goalie and everybody knows what I think about AVB potential for CS's

              Clear enough?

                Sounds like a good plan!

Completely agree with you on DDG. If Lindegaard hadn't picked up that ankle injury he might have had as many matches as DDG by the end. He had what, 5-6 games in a row with a clean sheet? Imo Lindegaard is the better goalie overall, DDG can make some amazing saves, but just as easily screw up. Lindegaard is much more consistent. I think its 50/50 there for this season.

Ive seen a few people considering Fulham defenders for H/A rotation. Just to note that they only kept 5 CS at home and 6 away from home so may not be ideal for rotation.

Similar story with West Ham last year. Not sure I understand the love for West Ham round these parts - they only got promotion through the play offs, kept fewer clean sheets and conceded more goals than Southampton or Reading. I'm keeping clear.

*Got a little off track there - was trying to make two separate points:

1 - West Ham kept more clean sheets away from home than at home last year.
2 - West Ham's defence was the poorest of the promoted clubs.

Conclusion - West Ham defenders make bad rotation choices.

Yeah I agree with West Ham not being good for rotation, although with Big Sam's experience in the PL I don't think they will be too poor at the back but nothing amazing.

Also they have been promoted through the play-offs but so did Swansea a year before.

True, I don't place too much store by the play-off thing but when I've seen people predicting league positions/relegated teams nobody seems to think West Ham will struggle. See below for my views on "Big Sam" though (Urghh, hate that nickname)

If you go uber cheap at the back then you got to take some risks. I'd rather have a ful def at 4.5 than a south/West/Read def at 4m.

I don't doubt that Fulham defenders are a decent choice, I have Hangeland. But my point is I am planning on playing him most weeks (bar very bad fixtures) as he will have similar potential at home and away.

I suppose the ticker does look nice and blue for the Hammers early on. Perhaps it's less that I don't understand the love so much as I don't subscribe to it. I'm probably allowing my view to be coloured slightly by that self-aggrandising, fat-headed, smug tosspot of a manager they have as well though. 🙂

I've had this a few times......just keep trying and it seems to work itself out. Try to get your device to remember your Username/Email & Password as that seems to work much better....

Apart from Hangeland & Riise, are any Fulham defenders (priced 4.5m) nailed on?

Plenty of pre-season games on tonight, hopefully things will become a little clearer.

Am I right in saying City have yet to make a signing this summer? And don't seem to be making much noise - apart from maybe Adebayor/Tevez/Dzeko out, RVP in......

I have just made a rather splendid cup of tea.
The sort where you hope it won't quite get to the bottom of the mug whilst quaffing it like a beer.

.....I've often found it's about drinking it at the right temp as much as anything. Too hot and it's undrinkable without burnt lips, too cold and it's like drinking dish water....

......drinking it when it reaches the perfect temp and you can quaff till the homes are in the front room...

Is having Fabio and Taarabt QPR overkill considering their fixtures aren't great for the first few GWs?

Think both can do really well in FF this season..

Had Fabio since 1st draft. Two may be overkill yes.
