QPR keep up their winning ways with a narrow 2-1 triumph in the final game of their pre-season tour of Asia. Bobby Zamora is amongst the goals once again for Mark Hughes’ outfit, with Samba Diakite, Adel Taarabt and Fabio (playing as a right winger) the main protagonists. Tim Cahill looks to be on his way out of Everton after the Toffees accept a bid from New York Red Bulls, while Sir Alex Ferguson reveals Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans may not be ready in time for the new season as United’s central defensive crisis deepens:

Persebaya 1 QPR 2
Mark Hughes’s side finished their Asia tour with a 100% record after their third successive win yesterday. After back-to-back 5-0 victories in their previous two games, QPR didn’t get things their own way, though, and conceded their first goal of pre-season on 17 minutes – Rob Green failed to gather a long ball into the box, allowing home forward Soler the chance to slot home from close-range. Samba Diakite, in particular, was lauded by the QPR website for a superb showing in central midfield but it was on-loan Fabio who again played his part offensively. Playing on the right of midfield for Hughes’ side, the Brazilian was hauled down in the box on 26 minutes, with Adel Taarabt slotting home the resultant spot-kick. Fabio – at 4.5 in FPL and 4.3 in the Sky Sports game – already looks set for plenty investment but the added possibility of game time in midfield will really catch the attention of Fantasy managers.

In a game played under sweltering conditions, the pace began to slow as the match progressed but Taarabt maintained his strong recent form and continued to provide plenty menace going forward. It was no surprise when the Moroccan and Fabio were involved in the visitors’ winner; their combination eventually played in Jamie Mackie on the right, with the sub teeing up Bobby Zamora to slot home. The former Fulham man has now notched in all three of his side’s games so far and, priced at 6.5 in FPL and 8.2 in the Sky Sports game, may be one to watch going into the new season.

QPR Starting XI: Green (Cerny 45), Onuoha, Ferdinand (Doughty 45), Connolly, Hill (Ehmer), Fabio (Harriman), Taarabt, Diakite (Park), Traore (Wright-Phillips), Zamora (Ephraim), Helguson (Mackie 45).

In Other News…
Tim Cahill may well have played his last game for Everton after the club confirmed they have accepted a bid of £1m from New York Red Bulls for the Australian’s services. Cahill – who is due to serve a three-match suspension at the start of the season after his dismissal in the Toffees’ final league match of 2011/12 – was a huge disappointment last time round, notching just twice in 35 appearances, and his likely departure now increases the chances of other candidates in David Moyes’ first XI.

With the Everton boss favouring a 4-5-1, a role in “the hole†is up for grabs now – Marouane Fellaini, Leon Osman and Steven Naismith seem the most obvious options; the Belgian impressed there towards the end of the previous campaign, notably in the 4-4 draw against United, but Naismith’s partnership with Nikica Jelavic at Glasgow Rangers may work in his favour. Certainly, Fellaini and Osman hold the most appeal from an Fantasy perspective, mainly as Naismith is classified as a forward in both FPL and the Sky Sports game. All three come in at 6.5 in FPL, though Fellaini is definitely the most intriguing in the Sky game; at 6.1, he is far cheaper than Osman (7.5), with Naismith setting you back 6.7. The move perhaps edges Steven Pienaar towards a Toffees return. With Cahill’s exit helping Moyes balance the books, the South African could be poised to make his way back to Goodison from Spurs – averaging over 5 ppg during his loan spell last term, Pienaar was outstanding value for money and, coming in at 6.5 in FPL this time round, is surely set to pick up plenty investment if he seals his move back to Merseyside.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s central defensive worries show no sign of abating, with the news that United skipper Nemanja Vidic may not be fit in time for the new season. The Serb missed the vast majority of the previous campaign and was expected to be ready for the opener at Everton on Monday August 20 but the Old Trafford boss admitted there are question marks hanging over both Vidic and Jonny Evans, going on to tell a press conference in Shanghai:

It’s not 100 per cent that Jonny Evans and Vida will start the season. Jonny will start running today. Vida and Phil Jones started full training today, which is very positive. If I can keep Rio fit, then Vidic and Jones should give us ample cover.

With Chris Smalling ruled out for 10 weeks due to a metatarsal injury and Evans still recovering from an ankle injury, Scott Wootton has partnered Rio Ferdinand at centre-half in the club’s two pre-season matches thus far. Jones has now returned to training after time off due to Euro 2012 duties, however, and could now come into contention in our Fantasy thinking if Vidic and Evans fail to recover in time; both Jones and Ferdinand are priced at 6.0 in FPL and come in at 7.0 and 6.8 respectively in the Sky Sports game.

tevez + noble/maloney. Yaya is a waste imo - will just get 2-3 points every game and 10 about 3 times in the season - get pienaar then u can get mcclean and tevez to fill ur other spots.

Right. First RMT for a while. Went for a strong front 3 and defence.

    Federici
    Hangeland Terry (c) Fabio
    Noble Ramires Taarabt/Michu Bale
    Tevez Torres Rooney
Subs: De Gea Maloney STaylor Cuellar

I know midfield looks weak but really dont see the point in any other 'heavy hitters' except dempsey. United midfield is too risky for me and i have rooney. Prefer ramires over hazard/lamps.

Will either get Pienaar/McClean in for Ramires or Adebayor in for Torres in gw2 depending on whether Ramires does well.

    Any suggestions?

Important Chelsea update: Oscar deal almost sealed with the below tweet from Paulo Freitas last night

#Internacional's president Giovanni Luigi has now confirmed to press here that he wants to finalize the transfer of Oscar to #CFC by Friday.

So where does Oscar fit in the whole gang of midfielders? Great question. In short, anywhere midfield in a 4231 set-up. Seriously, anywhere. But he's envisioned to be Frank's short-term back-up and long-term replacement. Unlike most other 20-year old mids, he's ready for the big stage.

Throws a spanner in the works, for all you Lampard owners. But here's giving all of you a pre-emptive warning - Frank's era at the Bridge is officially over.

Taarabt is causing me a bit of grief - he's penciled in to rotate with Dyer & Noble (1 benched each week) in my team, however since

    a) he's likely to be benched for GWs 3,4 & 5, and
    b) Dyer & Noble have reasonable fixtures in GW1 & 2 anyway,

shouldI just downgrade him to someone like Maloney and then use the 1.0m elsewhere. Thoughts?

GWs 3,4,5 are (mcy, CHE, tot) , i.e. pretty horrible. I'd like Taarabt for GWs 1 & 2, but then the extra 1m would mean having Friedel instead of Migs & the option to do Aguero -> Rooney in GW2.

Perhaps. The other thing in Taarabt's favour is that he's a fairly easy upgrade to the like of Pienaar, Larsson, McClean etc if any of those take off. Maloney is a bit more of a jump.

A voice from the deadzone. Whilst you were sleeping, those in the deadzone (or Australia) took a vote.

Which three players will rise the most in value over the first 4 weeks?

    The top 5 were:
    Rooney
    Graham
    Taraabt
    Ba
    De Gea

    Who would you vote for?

I noticed that too. In a way it is a good thing, just have to look for differentials to get ahead however, if differentials don't come through the majority of people go above you in leagues! It maybe better to stay generic, preventing the knee jerk early WC if you go behind.

I'm still debating whether to go for big differentials in GW1 or not? I cant decide which strategy to go for though!

I know that as soon as I look at my mini-league there'll be lots of variety. And as soon as the top of the game takes shape you'll see lots of leaders with very different looking teams too. I think there is a slight tendency to over-think and over-use stats on this website (personally) rather than simply watch and pick players. And once a player is seen is a good/bad pick - in a couple of days it's received wisdom.

        Important to think for yourself!

(Caveat: Having said that Team Generic FFS will do a damn sight better than most in my mini-league!)

Still a long way from being done. 'Troubled Malaga' could easily find there way out of trouble with another cash injection. 'Hopes' is the operative word here.

                    Podolski is better than VDV
                    Diaby is better than Siggy
Okay, Bale would get into the team.
Van Persie is better than Adebayor.
                    Walcott is better than Lennon.

Having a new coach does not make you better.

What is ambition? Paying over the odds for players? Getting wage subsidies from City?

Spurs is also losing their best player (Modric). Anyhow, Diaby is our best player, not Van Persie.

Bad advice? Feel free to add (or disagree) 🙂

Everton always start slowly so avoid
    Maloney is def on pens
    Never take a hit
Expensive defenders are a waste of money
    Plan transfers weeks in advance
Any £4m def is nailed on
Player X is a bad pick because nobody has him
Noble is a good pick because everybody has him

How can you compare Sandro and Sagna? They play two completely different positions.
I'd say, currently, Koscienly is the best centre-back of the four.
LennonArteta? I don't exactly understand what this means, but if you are suggesting Lennon is equal too, or better than Arteta, you are having a laugh.

Szczesny is around the same level as Friedel but what? 10 years younger?
I think once Vertonghen settles in etc, a combined 4-3-3 would look something like..

          -------------Szczesney-----------------
          -Walker---Vert---Koscielny---BAE--
          -----------Song---------Arteta------------
          ---------------VDV/Siggy----------------
          ----Walcott------Ade-----------Bale----

So something like 6-5 Spurs, but who gives a sh*t, it means nothing. Arsenal 3rd, suck it Spurs.

These comparisons make much more sense in terms of the players being compared and the comparison itself, imo.

Sanga in his prime is better than Walker i agree (But i am not sure how good will he be when he comes back)

          Walcott>Lennon by a mile

i just think that both teams are not bad but arsenal will strugle to repcae RVP and that's why i think Spurs will finissh above them (Specialy if Adebayor joins)

Anyone considering Downing at 6.5?? he will start most games and excluding his last year if he finds some of his previous form he will be a steal??

Dempsey is expected to sign and if he is he'll play LW imo. Borini or Suarez may also play LW

Has there been a bid? I understand LFC asked his status, but no offer was made.

If not Dempsey prob someone else. Downing doesn't really fit Rodgers style of play.
