Chelsea have this evening announced the signing of 20-year-old Brazilian Oscar from Internacional for a fee, reportedly in the region of £25 million. The young attacking midfielder, who can play centrally or on the flank, is currently on Olympic duty with his national side, offering us Fantasy managers and Chelsea fans the opportunity to assess his talents in the coming month.

Oscar is the latest acquisition by the Champions League winners who have been quick to flex their financial muscles following their triumph in Munich, capturing the likes of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin. The arrival of the South American playmaker is believed to take their Summer spending well beyond the £50 million mark.

For us Fantasy managers, this latest foray into the market adds further doubt to our selection of Chelsea’s attacking assets. Roberto Di Matteo’s side begin their campaign with a double Gameweek, taking on a trip to Wigan and a midweek home clash with newly promoted Reading. While that pair of fixtures offers obvious incentive for investment, Di Matteo’s first choice lineup is becoming more and more difficult to call by the week.

Chelsea face three league games in the space of six days with a home meeting with Newcastle looming in Gameweek 2; realistically Di Matteo will surely be looking to utilise his options to keep his lineup fresh. It looks difficult, perhaps almost impossible, to find an attacking player who is assured of starting all three of those matches.

We can at least presume that Oscar will take time to bed in and be given a number of weeks to acclimatise before being given a full Premier League debut. However, his arrival in the squad will mean that the uncertainty surrounding our Chelsea selections is set to remain long after the double Gameweek has passed.

We’ll bring you a full Scout Report on Oscar, with more analysis on his likely role and impact in the next 24-hours.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How i see the United attack in order of nailed on-ness:-

Rooney - No reasons needed really, but signing Kagawa allows Rooney to get the rare rest as Shinji can also act as the creator in the hole with one of Welbeck/Hernandez upfront as we've seen in pre-season so far. Kagawa also means Rooney can concentrate on being the out and out scorer, rather trying trying to balance being a creator and scorer. Should in theory get more goals this season.

Valencia - First choice right winger. Won't play anywhere else so should get alot of minutes. One of the players of last season.

Kagawa - Bought as 1st choice. Did amazing for Dortmund in a slightly less physical league. Will operate mainly as the CAM. Perfect for away games especially as Scholes and Carrick(our probable CM pairing) aren't the most mobile, so Kagawa would be much more useful to offer some protection, and can drop deep more adeptly than Rooney would be able to.

Nani - Too good to be benched. Should see a fair amount of minutes on the left but will be rotated, annoyingly. Could be a very good punt should Valencia get injured, allowing Nani to play on his favoured right where he's arguably more explosive.

Welbeck - Had a great 1st full season last year. He'll probably be the most unfortunate of everyone to get less game time. Shinji just gives us the better energy and more suited to pressing which will be needed vs the big teams. No doubt Welbeck is still ahead of Hernandez though.

Young - Had a poor Euros. Was decent in his 1st season, nothing great. He should in theory play less than Nani on the left as he's the inferiorer player. Set piece ability could be used in some games, and he would be handy off the bench.

Hernandez - Wouldn't touch him with a bargepole this season. Will be mostly sub appearances for me.

    Berbatov - 😥

    Feel free to agree/disagree/bookmark/shout expletives...

Almost everything is the same as my position, but a problem for both of us: how are Rooney/Welbeck/Hernandez going to all fit in one striker position?

Surely there's a bit of an elephant in the room here, which is that if you have 2 credible backups for Rooney, Rooney's gametime will suffer appreciably?

Could say the same for City tbh with Aguero. It will affect everyone if he's rested, but it shouldn't be a massive problem. I see Hernandez getting less game time, and Rooney getting more points.

True, I suppose City generally stick with Aguero. You don't want to rotate absolutely everyone. Sticking with Rooney.

Not sure how Hernandez can actually get less game-time! You are effectively replacing Wellbeck with Kagawa?

Yeah, so Kagawa pushes Hernandez further down the pecking order. When Kagawa gets injured, Welbeck would play, as opposed to Hernandez. Badly phrased maybe, but i think you get the point.

agree the nani should be first choice and young should only play the last 15 mins for him each game, are you convinced that kagawa can produce the goods in the prem? i hope he can. as far as transfers go, where do you think we most need strengthening? personally i think rvp, moura and even baines are not needed, we could have kept fabio and given him more gametime. i'd like to see just 1 signing that is a real workhorse in the midfield, someone in the keane/viera mould, dont know whos out there like that though.

Agree. None of the above would be necessities. Probably a Left back to eventually replace Evra, and i don't think Fabio is good enough yet, don't want Baines. Midfield signing is key, but we did have bad luck with injuries last year, with Anderson and Cleverley out for long spells. Might be fine for another season, should they stay fit. Hopefully Kagawa will do well, nothing to suggest he won't so far. Looked amazing for Dortmund and fitted in well so far.

do you reckon cleverly or anderson will either be good enough to be nailed on first choice in the cm, i cant see any of them really running our midfield and i aint a big carrick fan, we'll definately have to bring someone in for that position, just seems fergie dont seem bothered about it when quality in the cm or lack of it, stood out like a sore thumb last season. no one has had that never say die attitude in the cm since keano.

Ha. Good lad Bale, definite improvement.

2 questions for the humans among you:

    Song or Taarabt?

Song's stats from last season are miles ahead but without RVP there to finish chances he might not do as well.

Best mid for 5.5 or less.

Ye, Hazard gives me options - Kagawa/Valencia/Bale/VdV/etc

Obviously its heavy upfront, but Rooney/Aguero gives me easy captain choices every week (perfect derby team rotation).

The sacrifice is in midfield, and its a slight concern especially if 2/3 big mids become must haves.

When are people planning to use their wildcards? Judging by everyone's RMTs i assume that won't be during the international break/end of transfer window despite it seeming like the most optimal time. I never felt like i needed my WC the latter part of last season except maybe for the late DGW madness, so i was glad i used it early. What are people's WC strategies?

Early seems best now we've got the Jan wc. I agree that late in the season it's smooth sailing. Usually takes half a season before I get on top of it.
I usually have a crap start, use it gw3 and then claw my way back to a respectable rank.

I'm thinking the same which means we only need to make our teams with the first 3 gameweeks in mind!! I might try holding on to it this time around though, as long as i have some of the players expected to rise i shouldn't lose too much during the window.

Yep, Foster & Mignolet is worth a look though. For 9.5m i'd say Al-habsi/Green looks the only half decent combo. Our keeper choices are terrible this year, they're all so expensive.

Fixtures for GW 2/3/4 look like it could be dangerous to go without him.

Suppose you could transfer out Aguero for him if needed. Though personally I'd prefer to have an easy way to have them both rather than a restructuring.

Clichy and Ferdinand both rotation risks. Pay the extra for Lescott.

Kagawa could eased in by Fergie and I'm yet to see how he'll fit into the system tbh.

      No City attack?

well really believe that Ferdinand is nailed on.. also Chichy might not be as nailed on but think he will start initially.. but yes you might be right about Kagawa..

          Your call.

But with Vidic back, he is first choice and I think Evans (and Jones/Smalling) will get some games at CB.

    Bale vs Sig

that 0.5 extra worth it? 0.5 goes a long way...................esp if they end up on similar pts.

Before I post a RMT, do we reckon Rafael is nailed on 1st choice RB? Is Gary O'Neil a regular for West Ham? Is Walcott worth £9 mil? And what is the best 4.5 x2 keeper combo?
    cheers

1st choice yes, play every game - absolutely not.

There's no way Jones and Smalling won't play sometimes.

Walcott on form is worth that but wouldn't go for it straight away.

Not much there at 4.5 for me.

Walcott, gotta catch him when he's hot.

Rafael should be 1st choice, but not exactly nailed on with Jones and Smalling (when fit) who can play there. Not sure about O'Neil, think he plays a fair bit but again not nailed on.

I wouldn't pay 9m for Walcott until Arsenal's fixtures pick up, and we have a chance to see how they get on without RVP.

Probably Begovic and Jaask I guess.

    Mark;
I was looking at the Fox Sports Fantasy Football home page.

    http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccer/premierleague/event/fantasy-soccer-stats-sign-up?nicmp=fantasysoccer&nichn=foxsoccer&niseg=navdropgraphicFS

It takes you to FPL site to signup.
Noticed this on the home page.

In a couple of years you could start the season with £150.

?Dont see anything in the rules about this?
