Chelsea have this evening announced the signing of 20-year-old Brazilian Oscar from Internacional for a fee, reportedly in the region of £25 million. The young attacking midfielder, who can play centrally or on the flank, is currently on Olympic duty with his national side, offering us Fantasy managers and Chelsea fans the opportunity to assess his talents in the coming month.

Oscar is the latest acquisition by the Champions League winners who have been quick to flex their financial muscles following their triumph in Munich, capturing the likes of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin. The arrival of the South American playmaker is believed to take their Summer spending well beyond the £50 million mark.

For us Fantasy managers, this latest foray into the market adds further doubt to our selection of Chelsea’s attacking assets. Roberto Di Matteo’s side begin their campaign with a double Gameweek, taking on a trip to Wigan and a midweek home clash with newly promoted Reading. While that pair of fixtures offers obvious incentive for investment, Di Matteo’s first choice lineup is becoming more and more difficult to call by the week.

Chelsea face three league games in the space of six days with a home meeting with Newcastle looming in Gameweek 2; realistically Di Matteo will surely be looking to utilise his options to keep his lineup fresh. It looks difficult, perhaps almost impossible, to find an attacking player who is assured of starting all three of those matches.

We can at least presume that Oscar will take time to bed in and be given a number of weeks to acclimatise before being given a full Premier League debut. However, his arrival in the squad will mean that the uncertainty surrounding our Chelsea selections is set to remain long after the double Gameweek has passed.

We’ll bring you a full Scout Report on Oscar, with more analysis on his likely role and impact in the next 24-hours.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

yes, i do slightly prefer Kun but at 9.0 vs 11.5 Tevez presence immense value. I know City well, he is just as nailed on as Kun is and he has more potential for set piece actually. He is also truly settled at the club right now and will Mancini will surely start him. Tevez is a better more rounded player too. He tracks back and gets stuck in. he has the ball more and is more central to City's attack. All Kun does is score goals (which is a good think mind you). Tevez makes for an excellent differential and this allows for the easy swap of Torres to Rooney after gameweek one which is another big reason.

Or else I go with Sinclair over Kagawa and then Aguero instead of Tevez which I have been playing with quite a bit...

here's a team into which not much thought has been vested. figured i'd try and get dempsey in somehow without jettisoning kagawa, siggy, two reasonably expensive forwards and some strong defenders. as it ain't really my team per se i'll ask yous to RAT (rate a team) al habsi, federici, cashley, ivanovic, clichy, clyne, demel (latter two being interchangeable with any other 4 million sh!tters) dempsey, kagawa, sigurdsson, nzogbia, maloney tevez, torres, graham. warning: formatting is likely to be gruesome

Yeah would look at shifting Ivan out after GW1 (see how united are lining up).

Not totally convinced on the 3-4-3 but accept that's how most people are set up.

Looking at the points per pound, defenders seem better value (especially at the 7 mil and under bracket).

        Thanks for your help all!

That ain't bad, but I think you should downgrade on of your Chelsea defenders and shift the money into a Chelsea attacker. I also think that Cech is poor value for money.

      Not bad mate, but Clichy is a well-documented risk, and possibly a bridge too far in terms of your overall defence budget;
      Lennon is a very brave punt, what with the MF shenanigans there at the moment, but could be a good differential;
Pog could be an absolute disaster. People putting him in cos he's cheap and that's fair enough but you could well find him relegated to a v poor rotation choice up front after GW 1! Hope some of this helps.

well i very much like the formatting for one thing. 3 chelsea defenders is an interesting strategy but i wud be inclined to have at least one of their attackers. their DGW opponents i'd argue are more well known for their defensive ineptitude than a blunt attack. britton will never get more than 3 points in a match IMO. forjust .5 extra u can get more attacking mids with (likely) penalties. frei also isin no way guaranteed more than a cameo role as things stand. lennon might not even start but siggy might play a deeper role in which case lennon wud be a good shout and great value. kaboul, as mentioned above, is now a spurious starter. u don't need 4 big defenders anyway. midfielders and forwards score more points so 3 at the back is what i'd always recommend. look at maybe downgrading silva to get proper mids in place of those cheapies

Right this should be it. I swear! I've picked the best team I could taking last years performance and fixtures into account. Rotate(-ability?) and potential. This is seriously the best I could do for long-term. All depends on Adebayor and Michu now (hoping he's 6.0 or less). And I notice most of my defenders begin with C 😆

    Friedel - Federici

    Clichy - Cole - Cuellar - Chico - McCartney

    Michu - Dyer - Ireland - Nasri - Pienaar

    Aguero - Torres - Adebayor

£1.0mil in the bank to do Cole + Torres --> Rafael + Rooney straight away....

      A- I don't think Howard is worth £5.5m

      B- Ben Arfa unfavourable fixtures.

C- El Ahmadi playing deep, much rather have Frei!!!!

D- Two £4.5m midfielder will make it difficult to upgrade.

c- frei might not start otherwise i would..have 1.0 to upgrade to dyer

Dawson's really in the lead? Always kind of assumed Kaboul had the momentum and wasn't sure AVB would honour the Spurs old guard! I would love it if he is, saving me another 0.5m!

Yeah it originally was Sinclair so that I had 2, maybe 3 penalty takers, but then I thought I was going a bit over the top! Ramires gives me a DGW too. Ramires > Sinclair is possible later if Swansea seem to be doing okay.

My team has all 3 (with 5 DGWers).... Nobody will say my team is well balanced though. My reasoning for this is that I want to already have my captaincy options for the 1st 3 GWs there without the need to transfer them in. This also allows me to utilise having 5 DGWers because I can ship 2 for no hits before GW3 then I can instantly WC as GW3 starts and hopefully get likely risers in the the break before starting from scratch with some knowledge of likely starters and who's in form, etc.

      Mine stands at

      DDG/Fed
      Lescott/Kaboul/Wilson/Demel/Fonte

I like Gunter, he wasn't oven a fair chance of the whip at spurs. Hes played really well for forest, and is an attacking force also.

I will probably have him on the ranks gw1

OK Guys I'm pretty happy with this after day's of tinkering (girlfriend is away!!!)

    federici / de gea
    terry / lescott / [fabio / cuellar / clyne]
    hazard (c) / valencia / bale / [piennarr / noble]
    tevez / adebayor / [pog]

No money left in the bank. I'm thinking Terry and Lescott will be there for the season, and hopefully there is enough rotation between fabio / cuellar / clyne to allow me to leave the defence alone for a while.

i'm expecting big things from hazard, despite oscar's arrival. I'm hoping he is going to start banging them in from day one and could even be an oop prospect if torres doesn't turn it on. Valencia is for me the safer option than Kagawa, who I am sorely tempted with. However I cannot accommodate two big money newbies like hazard and kagawa from day one, i'm not brave enough. Pienaar is there dependent on his moving to Everton, otherwise i'll see what price Michu comes in at. Noble is there for pens and backup/rotation with Pienarr.

I toyed with Torres for many drafts, in the end I refuse to be let down again.

Do let me know what you think.........

    cheers guys
