Chris Hughton’s Norwich play out a goalless draw at MK Dons and record a third clean sheet in four. Sir Alex Ferguson admits he has a dilemma over the goalkeeper’s position at United, Paul Lambert talks up the potential of Charles N’Zogbia and Stephen Ireland, while Reading’s Jimmy Kebe looks set to miss the start of the season with a hamstring problem:

MK Dons 0 Norwich 0

Chris Hughton handed new boys Robert Snodgrass and Michael Turner their first starts for Norwich at MK Dons last night. The Canaries boss rolled out a 4-5-1, with forwards Chris Martin and Simeon Jackson on the flanks and Steve Morison the lone frontman. Both Snodgrass and Jackson impressed – the former’s set-pieces and eye for a killer pass caused chaos throughout the first-half and created plenty of chances, while the latter passed up a trio of opportunities to break the deadlock prior to the break. The two new signings almost combined to give the visitors the lead early in the second-half –Turner met a Snodgrass corner only to see his header superbly saved before he made way for Ryan Bennett on 65 minutes. Stout defending from MK Dons limited Norwich’s offensive forays as the game rolled on and, aside from a Martin effort late on, the Canaries failed to threaten as the match finished goalless.

Despite an inability to find the net, Hughton will no doubt take solace in the fact that his side are, yet again, showing a greater defensive resilience over pre-season – this was their third clean sheet in the last four matches. With a mere three clean sheets to their name over the entirety of 2011/12, Norwich’s failure to shut out their opponents has seen their defensive options handed kind price tags for the upcoming campaign – an upturn in output at the back could well see the likes of Marc Tierney (4.0 in FPL) earmarked by Fantasy managers if he can nail down a regular role at left-back next term.

Norwich Starting XI: Rudd; Francomb, Barnett, Turner (R. Bennett 65), Lappin; Jackson (Josh Murphy 79), Surman, Hoolahan, Snodgrass, C. Martin; Morison

In Other News…
As Fantasy managers eye up Reading’s assets ahead of their double Gameweek 1, the Royals right winger Jimmy Kebe looks set to miss out. The club’s official website revealed he is “unlikely” to be ready in time to face Stoke and Chelsea due to an ongoing hamstring problem, after undergoing scans earlier this week. This looks good news for summer signing Garath McCleary to step into Brian McDermott’s starting XI – the former Forest man comes in at 5.0 in FPL and a mere 4.3 in the Sky Sports game. Reading also revealed Chris Gunter has yet to recover from the ankle problem that has forced him out of the last couple of pre-season matches – he is set to miss today’s friendly against Bournemouth as a result.

Sir Alex Ferguson hinted that the goalkeeper’s position is far from settled at United yesterday after Anders Lindegaard signed a new four-year deal at Old Trafford. While many Fantasy managers have pencilled in David De Gea due to the Spaniard’s 6.0 FPL price tag, Ferguson admitted to the club’s official website that the choice between the two is a tough one to call and is set to give him a dilemma in the season ahead:

Anders has come on leaps and bounds since joining us last year There is healthy competition in the goalkeeping department, which is always good for the team, albeit a headache for me! I am delighted to see that he has clearly returned from the summer break in good shape after the disappointment of suffering an injury last season

Paul Lambert reckons both Charles N’Zogbia and Stephen Ireland are set to be key players for Villa next season. The pair were huge disappointments under previous boss Alex McLeish but Lambert’s more attack-minded approach paid dividend at Norwich last term and he anticipates the duo will be crucial to his side’s success in the upcoming campaign. N’Zogbia, at 6.5 in FPL and 5.7 in the Sky Sports game, and Ireland priced at 5.5 and 5.0 in the respective Fantasy games, could well be intriguing mid-price alternatives if they live up to their manager’s faith, with Lambert saying:

Stephen is a real talent, there’s no doubt about that. It shows when he plays because there is a lot of creativity there, just like Charles. They are both really talented footballers. We will try to get the best out of them because they are very, very clever footballers. We’ve got to get Ireland in positions where he can hurt teams. I’ve got a fair idea of what I want to do with him.

Do they usually play 4-5-1 or 4-4-2?

If it is the latter, Leigertwood and Karacan will play in central midfield, right? Then Guthrie?

4-4-2 last season I think, which means one of karacan and Leigertwood will make way. I think it will be Karacan, but none of them offers any goal threat really, all solid midfielders. Attacks come down the wings.

True. If I'm honest, Leigertwood and Karacan aren't worth having fantasy-wise, so I'd still go for Guthrie over them even if his place is unsure.

It's just we tend to play with deeper centre mids who don't do much creatively, and I'm not sure that position plays to Guthrie's strengths, he seems too good-a player for us to not play though.

Have been changing my team last 2 weeks and this is the optimum what i came with:

Friedel (Cerny) = Going with benchwarmer since i wont change friedel with some 4.5 keeper. maybe Vorm but Friedel is better cause from tott def hes cheapest and u can get a 5.0 def from swansea easy.

A.Cole, Williams, Demel (Cuellar, Fonte) = Cheapish def with 1 expensive def that will be swapped to Jones gw3 i suppose and the others rotate perfectly and are 5.0, 4.5, 4.0, 4.0 ! Gone with this scheme last season and it got me in 1st 100!

Hazard, Bale, Kagawa, Noble (Obertan) = strong mid. Iam worried about Kagawa thou but will see about that. Maybe i can downgrade him to Larsson/Pienaar/Michu and get 2m but really i dont want to invest in def more than this. Obertan is graet for 4.5 since he will be most of the time on bench.

Torres, Aguero, Graham = Pretty generic att line and i hate having torres in team as well as 3 chelskey players but well that dgw does its job. Got 2 mil in bank for Torres>Roonpig ofc. Graham has a graet schedule. Aguero is a season keeper imo.

So what are ur thoughts about this team?

It has potential, but we dont know if Hazard or Kagawa will be good in the PL, although I do expect them to go alright. I dont like Noble, I cant see him getting much but he is on penalties and set pieces which is good for a cheapo. Would prefer Guthrie over Obertan as he should at least start.

My only concern with that team is the lack of a second keeper. I would also just go for Rooney as Utd coverage for the time being, but thats my opinion as I want to wait and see Kagawa in action first.

    From Last Page-
Gianluca Di Marzio(Sky): Lucas Wants To Wear Inter Shirt-
"The mission is over. What needed to be done was done. Marco Branca is coming back and tomorrow the Inter director will be in Italy. In Brazil, the agreement in principle with Sao Paulo is reached for Lucas. Now the chances to close are really concrete and the decision will come in the next few days. A lot of pushing is coming from Lucas himself who has said yes to Inter for quite some time. So in short, the ball goes to Massimo Moratti".

Estadao(Brazil) also confirms Lucas Moura wants Inter Milan move. Says it’s most Brazilian players dream to play there.

As I've said above, it's just guesswork. But Gorkss was one of our best players last season, and Pearce was our player of the season. I think they'll at least get a chance.

My love for players in real life always seems to clash with players with FPL value.

Kagawa is such an exceptional player but I really can't afford an 8.5 midfielder who is prone to rotation. I hope that he's a nailed on starter and given his quality he deserves to be, just can't be certain of it. I think the only midfielder from an elite side that is unlikely to ever be rotated is Yaya Toure. Would people agree?

      Song?
      Bale?
      Modric? (if he stays)
      Carrick?
Think those are "unlikely to ever be rotated"

Still not sure about Kagawa, see his potential but Im worried that Rooney will drop down to give Welbeck/Hernandez some gametime. Looks like hes (Kagawa) been playing pretty good last season, but im not too impressed with his stats at passing/key passes. Just dont seem so involved as a PL playmaker should be imo.. then again, I havent watched him play more than 3-4 times last year

    A.Cole / Williams / Colocini / A.Ferdinand / Fabio
    Hazard / Pienaar / Nolan / Larsson / Dyer
Torres (Rooney week 2) / Aguero / Holt

Any thoughts on tactic of 2 teams making up 6 of defence plus one other.
