Shane Long is amongst the goals as West Brom ease past Forest to extend their unbeaten run to five games. Michael Kightly notches for Stoke on his debut as the Potters register their fourth consecutive 1-1 draw, while West Ham produce a similar scoreline at FC Braga thanks to a last-gasp equaliser from Winston Reid:

Nottingham Forest 0 West Brom 2
Steve Clarke welcomed back Chris Brunt and Steven Reid as the Baggies extended their unbeaten run to five matches with a comfortable cruise at the City Ground. Liam Ridgewell is a concern, though, after limping off at half-time with a thigh problem, while Jerome Thomas missed out with a niggle picked up in the previous match. In terms of formation, West Brom rolled out a 4-3-3 with Shane Long flanked by Peter Odemwingie and Zoltan Gera, with James Morrison the most advanced of the central midfielders. Morrison was a threat early on and teed up Youssouf Mulumbu for the opener before Long dusted himself down to slot home a spot-kick after being fouled in the box; the goal, his second of pre-season, the perfect response to the recent arrivals of Markus Rosenberg and Romelu Lukaku as the competition for striking berths heats up.

West Brom Starting XI: Foster; Reid (Jara 69), McAuley (Dawson 62), Olsson (Tamas 62), Ridgewell (Jones 46); Yacob (Hurst 81), Mulumbu (Thorne 81) Morrison (El Ghanassy 66); Odemwingie, Long (Fortune 66), Gera (Brunt 69).

Greuther Furth 1 Stoke 1
Tony Pulis handed new boys Michael Kightly and Geoff Cameron their Stoke debuts against the Bundesliga newcomers last night. Both players showed their versatility in the 1-1 draw; Kightly started on the left wing before switching to the right later on, while Cameron began the game in central midfield but shifted into the heart of defence after the Potters boss made a host of changes. Kightly was the chief protagonist for his new club; the former Wolves man scored with his first touch and teed up Ryan Shotton, only for the latter to hit the post. Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen were handed a half apiece between the posts, while Matthew Upson continued alongside Ryan Shawcross at centre-half due to Robert Huth’s absence. Upson hardly covered himself in glory though; he gave away the spot-kick that led to the home side’s equaliser before making way on the hour mark.

Post-match, Pulis revealed the club are expected to sign Dynamo Kiev left-back Goran Popov on a season-long loan on Monday; a move that will surely place real question marks over the game of Marc Wilson in the Potters’ backline next term. The Stoke boss also gave an update on Robert Huth – the German has returned home after being hospitalised with viral meningitis earlier this week and is expected to return to light training at some point in the next few days:

It’s a massive bonus that he has recovered so well because we were really concerned that it was the serious strain at one point. He’s a bit weak at the moment, so it’s too early to say when he will be back. We’ll have to take it one step at a time, but he’s a tough character and I know he won’t want to miss out on the start of the season if that is at all possible.

Stoke Starting XI: Begovic (Sorensen 46); Wilkinson (Jerome 60), Shawcross, Upson (Palacios 60), Wilson; Pennant, Whelan (Whitehead 46), Cameron, Kightly (Delap 76); Walters (Ness 65), Crouch (Jones 65).

Braga 1 West Ham 1
Sam Allardyce rolled out a 4-3-3 formation last night, with Ricardo Vaz Te and Modibo Maiga swapping wings on either side of Carlton Cole up front. Elsewhere, James Tomkins started in central midfield, with James Collins continuing alongside Winston Reid in the heart of defence. Matt Taylor came on as a sub midway through the second half and was handed a role on the left of the front three, with Maiga moving centrally. Intriguingly, Vaz Te shared direct free-kicks with Noble, while Tomkins grabbed an assist for Reid’s late, late equaliser after nodding down a Taylor corner.

West Ham Starting XI: Jaaskelainen, Demel, Reid, Collins (O’Neil 76), O’Brien, Tomkins, Diame (Moncur 84), Noble, Vaz Te, Maiga, Cole (Taylor 71)

Considering 4.5 is the minimum spend on a midfielder 5.5 for Allen does seem like top value considering we know the manager trusts him and will use him as an example of how he wants the others to play. Better than McAnuff in my team anyway 🙂

I would get him if i wasn't set on De Gea. Should start the majority until Smalling is back fit, then slight rotation will kick in, along with Jones. He's 1st choice though so will play most of the games. There's a doubt about whether he'll start GW 1 but you could always get your defender off the bench, and i don't genuinely expect a CS then anyway.

Got Fed paired with him. Lindegaard could possibly get 4-5 games in the season, which would be too much for me as it's 5 GW's where my goalie wouldn't score.

The DGW was the big lure. They seem to rotate quite well too. Only GW 6 seems tricky with Reading playing Newcastle but he's at home. Also i have a West Ham Defender, and i don't fancy any QPR yet. Would have Begovic but Stoke's fixtures are bad and you never know when Sorensen will start.

All the 4.5m mids are bench fodder. Only to be played as a last resort, not as part of a rotation strategy. Find the extra .5m for Maloney.

Haha I saw that comparison on the last page. Brilliant. You not think it makes them both too uncertain at least for the first couple weeks until it's clear?
Suppose it is rdg ARS so could chance my arm with Popov and if he doesn't play the first two it's not the end of the world. Fabio is looking tempting as a safer option though.

And even given his move, 7m is still about right given the uncertainty in Chelsea's midfield. Ramires at 7m is better value than Moses imo.

It's only a very simple free game (you're in the woods and need to collect 8 manuscripts) but I haven't been as scared since I played RE3. It's very well known, and a lot of reaction videos on YouTube from this game! Very simplistic but very creepy when on your own and using headphones.

I hated the last RE game on the PS3. No atmosphere and it was just terrible. Plus the not being able to move and shoot at the same time was 😆

I thought Resident Evil 1 was one of the best games ever.

Then I played it the other day on an emulator and my memories were ruined. 🙁

I sometimes just prefer the really simple games like they used to make. Can be much more entertaining, scary and interesting just by keeping it easy.

Back in the day, I liked Home Alone, Lion King, Dynamite Heady and Aladdin...

    Federici

    Clichy, Koscielny, Harte
    Yaya, Kagawa, Song, Fellaini
    Torres, Defoe, Jelavic

    DDG, Rafael, Cuellar, Allen

This is my team for GW1. There are question marks in there (Harte? Rafael? Allen? Defoe?), but if they all end up playing it could be a pretty good team I think.

What is all this talk on Allen???????

I know he just signed for Liverpool & is in the news today!!!

But he averaged less than 4 points a game & now that he is at Liverpool, I imagine he will get less minutes!!

Dont give me all this, he spent £15m on him, so he will play...

Henderson cost £20m, how did he do last year...

          What does that even mean??

That noone can score more than him this year??

Dyer is the same price, will most likely score more points.

Allen will play less minutes & will be a small fish in a big pond.

He will get less than 100 points this.

How much was Allen last season, 4.5m? Dyer is one, I can't think of another admittedly though McClean wasn't too far off considering he missed almost half the season. At 5.5m I don't see the value.

It's not a good a feeling as you would imagine. I've now got added extra pressure to try and succeed. 😀

I knew there was a good chance of getting them though. Only about 3 Villa fans on here. It was almost a coin toss.

This will be my 3rd season playing.

      1st season (no FFS) - 93k
      2nd season - 2.5k

2nd season was with the use of this site but the experience gained from the 1st season also made a massive difference.

FFS can be a double-edged sword. Last year I got several flops (mainly early on) that I'd have never bought had it not been for this place.

Use the knowledge and ideas on here but don't let it cloud your judgement.
