Now a stone lighter after shedding his golf course weight, Carlos Tevez has once again emerged as a key player for Manchester City and Fantasy managers alike. The Argentine, who spent much of last season in exile after a spat with manager Roberto Mancini, was the star of last Sunday’s Community Shield victory over Chelsea, scoring a superb effort and overshadowing his compatriot, Sergio Aguero. But can he continue that form and keep the more expensive Aguero out of our Fantasy lineups?

One of the biggest attractions is the price difference between the pair, particularly in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, where Aguero has been priced at 11.5m in compared to Tevez’s 9m price tag. However, the difference in the Sky game is less marked with Tevez priced at 9.4m compared to Aguero’s 9.9m.

Another attraction is the post Community Shield comments from Roberto Mancini about Tevez being “a very important player” for City. With the side’s penalty taking, maverick striker Mario Balotelli still lacking match fitness and Edin Dzeko still out of favour as a starting striker, starts seem assured for Tevez for Man City’s opening games at least. But with Balotelli likely to be used sparingly during August, Aguero is set to retain penalty taking duties, arguably adding further weight to his hefty price tag.

Mark says…
I’ve been hesitant to consider Tevez over Aguero, for the simple reason that it seems inevitable that Roberto Mancini will look to give Mario Balotelli pitch time. My other concern is Mancini’s formation. The 3-4-1-2 looks to be a winning formula right now but the City boss is already indicating that he’ll abandon it once the real business gets underway. Even if it remains, I’m not sure how he builds both David Silva and Samir Nasri into his lineup, whilst keeping two strikers. I’m pretty sure they’ll be times when he’ll push Silva or Toure forward and abandon the idea of a pairing up front. For me, Aguero looks the most secure, regardless of the tactical scenario.

In the short-term, however, I have to admit I’m enormously tempted by the slimline Tevez. His goal and performance on Sunday was a clear indication of form and confidence and it seems nailed on that he’ll line up against Southampton. There’s every chance he could again steal the thunder from Aguero in that game and that 2.5 FPL difference can be invested to some effect elsewhere in our lineups. Will I be 100% that Tevez will take the field in a few Gameweek’s time? That’s the issue. For me, Aguero is a fire and forget option, by going with Tevez, it’s a question of cashing in on the short-term benefits and managing your way out of the situation later. After Sunday’s showing and the noise from the City camp, I might just be willing to take that on.

Andy says…
When I look at comparing two figures like Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero there is one thing that is always at the forefront of my mind – the Fantasy captaincy. The armband is the biggest duty for Fantasy Managers on any given Gameweek and, if I think I’m going to be spreading it about the Etihad stadium with regularity, I’ll make sure to pick the player that I think is not only most consistent and most likely to start games. That man, for me, without a shadow of a doubt, is Sergio Aguero.

However, in the first couple of months of the new season I really don’t see too many of Roberto Mancini’s men pushing the issue when it comes to captaincy. Given that inference I have to hark to the other dominant factor: price. While I think Aguero is more assured of pitch time, it doesn’t even begin to make up for the extra 2.5 in your pocket by opting for Tevez. As a player I prefer Aguero – exponentially so – but for the first couple of months of the season I’ll be managing with my head and leaving my heart at the door. Tevez will be in my team.

Paul Says…
It’s impossible to say over the long-term but, right now, he certainly looks to be. Tevez’s attitude has been praised by both Roberto Mancini and David Platt and the City boss has already stated he expects him to be an important player in the season to come – a sure sign of how he plans to utilise him. Aguero’s phenomenal debut season was, in part, helped by a number of factors –Tevez’s determination to force a move away from the Etihad and subsequent strop in the Allianz Arena, Mario Balotelli’s indiscipline and Edin Dzeko’s loss of form all meant that last year’s summer signing was too crucial to be left out at any point. Now that Tevez is 100% both physically and mentally, Mancini may well feel he can afford to slightly restrict Aguero’s game time when Mario Balotelli is fully-fit.

Personally, I feel that Tevez and Aguero could be handed roughly the same number of starts, with one or the other dropping out for Balotelli on occasion, while Edin Dzeko is mostly reduced to the role of impact sub. Bearing in mind this was a player who was priced at 12.0 at the start of last season, I reckon Tevez looks exceptional value at the moment for 9.0 and that 2.5 saving over Aguero has certainly won me over for just now.

Naturally, but it's still an impressively anonymous list of teams they've struggled to score against. I think the most worrying thing is that they have little depth, virtually no strikers, and even the first teamers are looking anonymous

They need a striker desperately. That's why Wolves are playing hard ball with them over Fletcher, they'll end up paying 15M or something stupid like that. Why they don't buy someone not British I don't know, they've already got an overrated, expensive English striker.

Exactly, Fletcher is not the top quality kind of striker they should be looking for if they have any ambition (unlike Wolves). In fairness Campbell could turn out pretty good, but not world class.

Looks like MON's decided that's who he wants though. They're getting ripped off by Championship club again like they were with Whickham!

Their strike force made Bendtner look good in comparison! How a few years can change things from when I enviously looked on as they had Bent, Gyan and Welbeck all firing the goals in.

Hope they get their act together and find someone decent to play up top coz it isn't the same without the derby.

i think you've got too much tied up in defence really, but whats the attraction with N'Zog and dembele? swans, fulham, have the best starts from that list i would say, my mids are bale, kagawa, ramires and cazorla, lot of money, but can see those two of kag and caz really performing well.

If i were you i'd drop zab for maybe rangel or williams for swans and use the extra to upgrade elsewhere in mids.

Correct chaps! 24 goals two seasons ago, 17 goals the season before last (when in between clubs) and injured for a huge chunk of last season. Mr Bent must be absolutely creaming himself at being told by Lambert to do nothing else but stick a leg on the end of some crosses and take penalties!

i think Mata will start 1 and be be subbed off in that game and then come on as a sub in the other. i think Lampard/Ramires is your best bet

Cazorla looks your best bet unless he plays Gerv LW

and your last question is 50/50 although Tev did look sharper in the CS

It's only Tuesday. The pages are too quick. The RMTs are too many. So to lighten the mood a little.
    Rate My Beard.
I've never grown one before and I'm fast approaching the end of my 30s. I'm off work for a while so decided, why not? I spent a half hour earlier on some very menly beard sites and they all recommend letting it grow unhindered for possibly 4 weeks before messing with it (especially if you're a newbie beard grower).
I'm about 8 or 9 days in now and I have to say I like the look of it. A little bit of grey on each side of the chin which I like too..I've practically no grey on my head and thankfully haven't gone bald and don't look likely too either (good genes)
Very itchy and very spiky when I lie on a pillow though.
    Who's done it? Any tips?

      Welcome, my hirsute brother!

Yes, yes ... let it go unfettered for a bit. It'll be annoying as h3ll for a bit - itchy and stuff - but that subsides as it grows. The biggest problem for me - and why I always shave it off before re-growing it - is that it's a real pain when it comes to eating.

Keep the neck and facial edges trimmed up well ... otherwise you'll look like a deranged transient.

Get one of those beard trimmers/hair trimmers that have the hair guides ... it'll enable you to keep it trimmed to a certain length without it getting all Wild Rover  and without you needing to scissor-cut it all the time. Make sure you brush it, too.

I personally like the short-cut beard. Longer beards add age. Wait until the first hotty woman calls you 'sir' and you'll be cutting it off 😉

Ok, I'm working on the principle that after the first one or two gameweeks, there will be bandwagons a plenty and I'm going to want to rip up any team that I put together pre-season.

Therefore, I think I might just base my team around the 1st gameweek and then just take a few hits to get on bandwagons/rearrange my team afterwards:

    Federici
    Cashley/Lescott/Pearce (RDG)
    Mata/Silva/Taraabt/N'zogbia
    Torres/Tevez/Pog

Subs DDG,Fabio, another 4.5 mil defender, Miyaichi

    Thoughts?

yo man, didnt notice you posted lol, no one has commented so i'll comment.

I'm liking the kagawa choice firstly, offers great value and potential. Liking the defence, although i wouldn't spend that much if it was me on Terry, and ive opted for tevez instead of aguero, you could then upgrade taarabt to bale? only if u downgraded terry though, but like we said yesterday it can pull off, its all guess work, but i would defo think about tevez over aggy, can see tevez stealing aguero's thunder. other than that as it stands i still like it tho mate.

Yo buddy! Thanks for commenting, any comment is a good one at the end of the day!

The only reason why I have Terry is so that I can easily change him over to Vidic whenever I want, which will be before GW3 for sure. Because I want Vidic and he is the only one I can count on in United's defence, and I think they are gonna get a lot of CS's.

Yea I know I am seriously considering the Tevez... the only problem I have with it is if I want Aguero because Tevez screws up somehow then it is going to be hard to find the money to change up. However if I have Aguero, and knowing Tevez is doing well then I can get him easily and upgrade elsewhere. But still deeply thinking about it!

Ahh i see, yeah te switch to Vidic seems viable actually then, and i agree, he is the man to have, i did (very briefly) have him in my team but needed funds elsewhere.

Yeah i see the dilemma with then looking for money i suppose, but i genuinely believe tevez is the way to go, aguero is good no doubt about it, but i read somewhere a few pages back, someone hit the nail on the head and said aguero is a poacher (not a bad thing at all), BUT tevez actually makes things happen, his movement and his dribbles then shots, aguero just finishes in my opinion, a lot more in tevez's locker and for cheaper. have a think anyway but its your guy instinct at the end of the day aint it 🙂

That is such a good thought process, I am being a bit silly about this really as I am thinking about getting Vidic and others in my head already and I shouldnt. It is the beginning of the season, Especially with the fact that if I get someone like A Cole then I can change up and find 0.5 somewhere if i really want Vidic. Plus There is the chance that someone cheaper in the United defence becomes nailed on and is probably cheaper then vidic.

I sorta agree with the Tevez thing... he is amazing price.

I Just changed a few players around, and put Tevez in... what do you think?

              Friedel Federici
              ACole Lescott Cuellar Demel Clyne
              Lampard Kagawa Bale NDyer Maloney
              Tevez Torres Graham

Still with 2 mill for the Rooney swap.

thats all very true, i think holding off vidic may be the more sensible option as yet till we know who else in the utd defence becomes more important, who knows maybe even rafawl could nail down a starting position lol.

I must admit i am liking that team a WHOLE lot more, and easy leaves you with 2m to upgrade torres to rooney, and maybe could find the extra 0.5 by doing lescott to Zabaleta, i hear he may be nailed on as long as Richards stays injured.

I forgot to mention i had a good think about this, and ive opted for a frontline of tevez, rooney and graham now, i think ramires and A.Cole is enough chelski cover for me, adn especially if rooney rips everton apart, we all know what torres can be like, and as much love i have for the guy, i jsut cant see torres performing extremely well, he may grab a goal at most i now reckon, BUT, last minute i may shove him in again, this is now the dilemma i face haha!

Plus I dont see Rooney ripping Everton apart massively, see him scoring one goal maybe. Which in my mind will at least be the same as Torres, or less then Torres overall this GW.

Yeaa man I am thinking well too far ahead with some of the transfers and should just be caring about how good my team looks now rather then how I want it to look in the future.

I am liking the team a hell of a lot more now looking at it! Will probably look into how I can make that 0.5 another time if I really need it.

Oh wow that looks proper good for a front three, but I seriously think Torres is worth it over these 2 games, he is worth the risk for the DGW and I am even captaining him. I just see him scoring at least one goal and setting up another, they have to proper rely on him now and I thought his movement and positioning was getting much better. Think he might have a gd start to the season and die out....

Repost guys. Stuck on the bottom of last page.

Hey guys really need some thoughts on this if u could.

    A. Mata / Dyer / Kac (With Maloney, 2 big hitters in mid but 3 under 5.5)

    or

    B. Ramires / Michu / Taarabt ( 1 big hitter mid only but 3 mid priced options & 1 5m)

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Yep and there's lots of good options at 6/6.5, most of which are key players for their sides and take a large % of attacking points as a result.

Lots of the big hitters in midfield are now rotation risks with the Chelsea/Utd signings. I've just got Mata (switch to Bale GW2) and then 3 midpriced options and Maloney.

*first post of pre-season & I get caught at the bottom of the page, some things never change 😆

Well everyone, back for another season of graft! Hope everyone had/is having a good summer..

Tevez vs. Aguero certainly is the burning question. I like the look of my team better with Tevez in it but Aguero’s ownership is frightening! I just keep reminding myself of the beastly scores Tevez racked up the season before last when he was essential, has much changed!?

My other burning question at the moment is Bent/Podolski & Michu/Taarabt OR Petric & Walcott. People seem to be forgetting the great run of form Walcott hit the tail end of last season. He is only owned by 5%, so he is a good differential but also has minimal risk as he is a proven FPL points scorer..

One last thing, does Podolski look to have penalty’s now or will Arteta get involved?

Podolski will get pk but I think RVP will stay. A lot of players are gambling on Carzola, I've never seen him play, but most say he is the best way into Arsenal attack. I am debating putting him in my team for Gerrard...

Welcome back Viper, hope the summer treated you well!

I'm going Tevez, although plan is to get rid for Bent after Gw3, and I reckon Tev will get enough game time in the first few weeks...

Yep, Walcott is a decent option for me, but my two 9.0m+ mids are taken up by Chelsea/Spurs due to fixtures, do I'd go Bent and Michu if I were you...

No idea on the last one but I'd say Arteta is enough of a threat that I wouldn't risk it without being sure what the story is...

With Cazorla as Arsenal's playmaker and the Arsenal medical team a bunch of cack it may well make sense to take Jenkinson. Due to the former the defence might be rather decent and due to the latter Sagna might not be back for a while!

All in all maybe we should embrace the fact we're going to WC by GW3 and take some short term punts, particularly those facilitated by injury.

    i like these 6 teams opening 5/6 fixtures;

    - AV
    - Che
    - Tot
    - Swa
    - Ful
    - WHU

im happy with my defence atm

    Fed (DDG)

    Ivan, Hange, Zab, (Clyne, Cueller)

but this is where im losing my head

    atm ive got

Bale(must have), Noble(i like him as a support), Dembele, N’Zog, Ramires

Graham, Torres (musy have for the DGW), Aguero/Tev

i have £2m in the bank for Torres>Rooney GW2 but if i have Tev ill have £4.5m?

      My team is pretty similar.

Went for Cole ahead of Ivanovic and Lescott ahead of Zabaleta.
Also went for Michu Taarabt and Walcott to go along with Bale and Noble (pretty set on them two as well)
      Torn between Graham and Petric.
Torres -> Rooney seems to be the norm

id rather have Ivan than Cole because of the goal threat from corners, also Zab saves £0.5m and he's nailed on with Richards out for 5weeks.

I like the thought of Taarabt but Michu is too much of a risk because of how different the prem and la liga is. Plus i like Dembele, ive always thought he's got something special and now murphys gone i think hes guna shine( your not a bad player if real madrid declare interest in u)

u saying walcott has made me think twice about him though, im just not crazy about his fixtures. i think ill wait 2 c his form 1st!
