This afternoon, we have updated our Pre-Season Guide tab on the home page for Fantasy managers looking for some last-minute research ahead of Saturday’s kick-off:

Included are links to every pre-season game that has taken place, all our Scout Reports and Moving Target articles over the summer and extensive articles on each of the three promoted sides. In addition, we’ve added a brief “Scout Notes” synopsis of the main areas of concern for all 20 teams.

Below, we’ve listed the men in form in front of goal over the summer so far – nice to see Mauro Boselli in there, tempting us all with his pre-season goals once again..

6 – Danny Graham
5 – Mladen Petric and Billy Sharp
4 – Djibril Cisse and Sam Baldock
3 – Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, Steven Naismith, James Vaughan, Bobby Zamora, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Adam Le Fondre, Mauro Boselli

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Don't begrudge him for not starting McClean, friendly he played before the Euros highlighted his unsuitability for the system, he pressed the keeper constantly but we never do that, Trap wants his wingers to keep position. Definitely should've come on earlier though.

Back 4 certainly isn't. O'Shea the only first choice there and even his position is under review.

Whelan won't be first choice much longer either, Andrews and Gibson both ahead of him.

We have a very similar team. I would say swap Ivanovic to A. Cole, otherwise you run the risk of having to swap him out the same time as you swap Zabaleta...also you have 3 Chelsea players and a Reading player not on the pitch in GW3. Maybe spend some of that 2.5 on Graham instead of Pogrebnyak?

I completely disagree with all this talk of Ferguson playing 442 with Rooney and RVP. Occassionally yes. Every week, so unlikely. The week of a champions league fixture - No way. Welbeck won't be sent back to the bench for an entire season, neither will Hernandez and 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 is such an essential formation these days against good teams that play the same way. Ferguson is not buying RVP to put him next to Rooney and play them week in week out.

Arsenal were offered £20mil by United for RVP and Arsenal rejected it. United up the bid by £2mil and all of a sudden Arsenal accept it? It just doesn't add up. Mancini commented saying City wouldn't win the race for RVP and if they wanted they could've easily bid £24mil - £2mil more than United. Seems tome that Arsenal are demanding more than meets the eye in an attempt to 1) get their money's worth for the striker, or 2) dissuade him from moving away. It just seems very illogical

Man city are tied up with their wage bill. It's not the transfer fee that is a problem to them. I think it's a bit of both 1) and 2). I'd snap uniteds hand off for 24mil for RVP. He has 3 years left maximum at the top of his game, not a long term investment.

No matter where RVP goes, the wage bill will be a problem. If that fair play thing comes in he'll have to take a cut regardless. I just don't think he's going to United. Just can't see it honestly.

Won't be leaving for less than £30mil but they'll listen to £20mil plus add-ons. Can't see what players United can throw in that Arsenal would take. Forwards are sorted, midifeld is sorted. Only thing United could offer is a defender but who is there? United have their own defensive woes at the moment.

Will United go that high? They wouldn't when it came to Modric. I don't see why they would pay £30mil for a forward when they have Hernandez, Welbeck and Rooney all raring to go. What they need is a midfielder - Kagawa is in the hole but they need someone to partner Carrick (replacement for Giggs/Scholes) and I think it could be Modric still.

This is how they lined up against Hannover:

        Rooney/Hernandez
        Young/Kagawa/Cleverley/Nani
        Evra/Carrick/Vidic/M Keane

Kagawa and Cleverley picked up the ball deep at times, and other times they were part of the attacking line - very much box-to-box midfielders.

Putting Carrick alongside Kagawa is more defensive than the Cleverley/Kagawa partnership - not more attacking.

(More on Utds passer/runner combination they sometimes use: http://www.lifesapitch.co.uk/opinions/why-tom-cleverley-is-so-important-to-manchester-united/ )

Also consider that, with everyone fit, they started last season with Cleverley and Anderson in midfield (and STORMED some games) - two runners. Is that so different to starting this year with Kagawa+Cleverley in those same roles?

Nani and Young offer no defensive element in their games. They are forwards who play wide. Kagawa plays behind a forward and RVP is another player with no defensive dimension to his game. Carrick is a screening midfielder, there to protect the defense, but mainly in a positional sense, not with tough tackling, but with a range of passing and a deep position. That team would get destroyed against half of the premier league.

Seriously, if it was such a brilliant idea don't you think ferguson would have done it? Look at the history of fergusons united teams in big games (games where he really fears the opposition) You tend to get 1 forward and wide players who track back and tackle (classic examples being Valencia and Ji Sung Park, to the extent that the latter ONLY seemed to play the big games)

      DDG
      Rafael Rio Vidic Evra
      Carrick Rooney
      Valencia Kagawa Nani
      RVP

Rooney played there half the time anyway and Valencia as a winger with Rafael behind offers a lot more protection than Nani or Young would.

      Still not realistic.

I've always thought of Rooney as englands best midfielder. I think he would be brilliant, nurtured into a sort of Paul Scholes for the modern day.

Im not sue Kagawa will get a huge amount of time either. Rotation for him too i think.

        It'll be 4-4-1-1

Rooney will play behind Van Persie and will drop into midfield to defend and to get the ball and be involved. Kagawa will probs play as a central midfielder.

Yep, and i think this shows that RVPs arrival would mean either A) rotation or B) a reduced role for one of the players (in fantasy terms) , most likely rooney as ferguson capitalises on his rounded ability to attack and defend. I could see him losing penalties too. His last few have been suspect.

Van Persie is defo a better penalty taker. Rooney does that weird banana run up thing. Thing is Rooney is a moody little munchkin so it might be better politics for Fergie to let him keep penalties.

Alright gents, bear with me on this one as it is out of left field, but with RVP likely to go to MU I’m thinking about a team as follows for my son. Albeit this is my first attempt at FPL, I write risk assessments and cost benefit analyses for a living and will also try to apply experience in Aussie Rules fantasy to this.

#1 assumtion is that RVP and Rooney will masacre lesser teams. I know they are high priced but with Kagari in and Vidic back they are likely to get plenty of opportunities???

    Proposed team therefore is:

    Ruddy (Al-Habasi) 9.5M
Zabaleta, Clark, Tierney, (Demel, Dawson) 22M
Mata. Pienaar, N’Zgobia, Michu (Kakacilinic) 33.5M
    Rooney, RVP, Torres (C) 35M
N’Zgobia, Pienaar, Michu, Cazorla, Noble 34M
    Rooney, Torres (C) Tevez 21M

What are the experts thoughts on this???

I like it but wouldn't get kosclieny (no arsenal defender at this stage) and maybe look elsewhere bar noble.

      But that's just my opinion.

Also, just check that's Terry isn't havin a FA ban on the horizon for last seasons conduct.

No real holes, and a nice balance.
