This afternoon, we have updated our Pre-Season Guide tab on the home page for Fantasy managers looking for some last-minute research ahead of Saturday’s kick-off:

Included are links to every pre-season game that has taken place, all our Scout Reports and Moving Target articles over the summer and extensive articles on each of the three promoted sides. In addition, we’ve added a brief “Scout Notes” synopsis of the main areas of concern for all 20 teams.

Below, we’ve listed the men in form in front of goal over the summer so far – nice to see Mauro Boselli in there, tempting us all with his pre-season goals once again..

6 – Danny Graham
5 – Mladen Petric and Billy Sharp
4 – Djibril Cisse and Sam Baldock
3 – Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, Steven Naismith, James Vaughan, Bobby Zamora, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Adam Le Fondre, Mauro Boselli

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I think this is the only major question left in selecting my team now, so any thoughts would be great:
    Valencia or Kagawa?

Anyone got Mancini's number? Wanna' ask him a few things...

But seriously, odds of Nasri starting the first three or four gameweeks? Nasri/Yaya is my biggest problem at the moment. :/

He will almost certainly start GW1, but I was too worried about him being rotated after that to have him in my team. Yaya is a safer choice, but won't have many explosive returns.

Darn, choosing keepers this year is difficult and annoying!

de Gea - Not nailed on with Lindegaard recently signing a new 4yr deal.
Friedel - Spurs have been after a new keeper since the transfer window opened
    Begovic/Sorenson - Who will start?
Mignolet - It seems he isn't guarenteed a 1st team place after his comments today.

Then you have Cech and Hart which are too expensive for my liking. Jussi, Federici and Davis are all keepers from promoted teams and ideally you want a solid keeper beside them. That leaves... ?

Just looking for some advice-especially off players who have ranked well. It's my 3rd season playing Fantasy and in the last two I have ranked just above average (in the top 50k) but my problem is that I took lots of hits- around 40 last season. Is it always better to hold off on hits? Will your rank improve if you don't take hits even if you're not getting in essential players who are on form? Cheers.

I took 60+ hits last season which was way too much, but I guess you have to look as to whether they were justified or not - i.e did the players return cover the cost of the hit and the score of the player you transferred out.
I wildcarded too early last season and went a lot with fixtures rather than form.
This season I have planned the first 6 weeks (barring injuries) and have got good rotation in defence and 3 good captain options

I also think its wise to try and save two transfers as this gives a lot more scope. I never managed that last season

too many hits will hurt you.

it's not as simple as player A > player B. it affects the way you look at your team. a -4 hit becomes a -8 hit to make it right etc.

I took around five hits last season and was top 5k ... If you plan well and follow fixtures there should be no need for hits. They work well when dgwk s come up or you are blighted by injuries.

Jonty - how far ahead do you plan? I guess there are players in your team who are season keepers and fixture proof, but then if somebody explodes do you risk upsetting the balance?

About six weeks, but the key is to have a flexible team.. That's why I try and ensure I spread the money and if say silva becomes a must, or Piennar does then I can get them with no hit. Follow the ticker down the side or the projections area if a member. Good luck .

Thanks everyone for your response. My issue is that I have an itchy trigger finger and when players are on form, I have to get them in.. Have to learn to be patient this season and keep hits to a minimum.

I finsihed at around the 60k mark, which I was pleased with. With my hits, I GAINED 12 13 points with the transfers I made. Thats not to say more hits will bring more points tho. If you're clever and little lucky it may pay off

I must have made 20+ last year and finished just outside the top 1000. Some of them (ie. double game weeks and getting in a player that's in for a big price hike you won't afford otherwise) pay off, but I made a couple of horrible ones (!) and overall you should try and avoid them because long run you'll make more bad than good transfers. My biggest error was repeatedly underestimating the value of the players sat on my bench, pick decent subs and have faith in them if you're forced into playing them.

its a gamble...keep the 4 points you already have or risk it in the hopes the player you pick gets 4 points more than the player you drop ...so how many times did those 40 hits work out?
but i think it goes further than that really, does the player you brought in on a hit continue to outscore the dropped player for as long as you keep him in your team?

i should say i only took 1 hit last season and finished around 5000 and i regret taking that hit since i remember it not working out. so i plan on taking none this year. it would be fun to find a no hits league to play in, anyone know of any?

      Team 1
      Jussi - Federici
ACole - Lescott - Cuellar (McCartney - Fonte)
Bale - Lampard - Santi - McClean (Maloney)
      Kun - Tevez - Graham
That leaves 0 in the bank

      Team 2
      Jussi - Federici
ACole - Lescott - Pearce (McCartney - Fonte)
      Silva/Bale - Mata/Hazzard/Lamps - Maloney - McClean (Noble)
