With two days until the season kick-off, Robin Van Persie’s future appears to have been decided with the announcement that Arsenal have agreed terms with Manchester United.

The official statement arrived this evening from Arsenal and United have also offered confirmation of the move, subject to a medical.

This is obviously momentous news on the eve of the Premier League and Fantasy season. Undoubtedly the biggest move of the summer transfer window so far, the Dutchman’s move to Old Trafford is – from a Fantasy perspective – arguably the most significant transfer since Cristiano Ronaldo left the Old Trafford club for Real Madrid in 2009:

Sir Alex Ferguson’s acquisition of the former Gunners skipper hands United a lethal looking frontline as they look to wrestle the title back from neighbours City. The two top scoring players in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in 2011/12, Van Persie and Rooney – with 269 and 230 points respectively – will surely rack up goals aplenty but, with either of the two more than capable of accruing huge points hauls to the other’s detriment in any given Gameweek, we are left with an unwanted armband dilemma as the Fantasy landscape around us is altered irrevocably.

Quite how Van Persie will fit into the pecking order in terms of set-pieces and spot-kicks is a crucial factor which will be keenly anticipated by Fantasy managers – if Rooney continues as the number one for penalties, the Dutchman’s stock will clearly drop in our estimations, with a tussle for bonus also a significant factor is how we invest in the United frontline. The Fantasy popularity of new boy Shinji Kagawa perhaps now looks a little less appealing until a clearer picture of the situation at Old Trafford, in terms of tactics and the likelihood of rotation, is established.

Over at the Emirates, Van Persie’s departure is surely set to boost the long-term appeal of new signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. The Gunners’ French-based scout Gilles Grimandi admitted only last month that Giroud was signed from Montpellier in anticipation of Van Persie leaving – a central role looks likely for the Frenchman, then, but with Wenger conceding his summer signings will be eased into action in the season ahead, their initial impact is perhaps questionable. Despite this, it seems Podolski, at least, is set to start against Sunderland on Saturday as the Gunners gear up for action without their former skipper.

Fellow new-boy Santi Cazorla, though, now looks the most likely Gunner to benefit in terms of set-pieces; potentially, he should be handed corners and free-kicks, while the issue of spot-kicks looks up for grabs – Podolski scored from the spot on Sunday, though it’s worth noting that Mikel Arteta didn’t feature in the 4-0 win over Cologne.

We’ll have more on the full impact of the Van Persie move and its knock-on effects for both sides in a more substantial Moving Target later.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Wow, you can't just generalise a group of people like that. You're just basing your views on the stereotype it seems. Not exactly mature. BTW, you brought this up.

Of course I can generalize like that. Stereotypes exist for a reason, and I brought up the idiocy of MMDO's posts -- you're spoiling to prove teenagers are the archetype of wisdom and knowledge.

Are there teens who know footy? Sure. But if you're arguing there's no reason to suggest that teens are generally uninformed, you're exhibiting plain foolishness.

Uninformed about what exactly? All people are different. There are probably some old timers who also uninformed on certain subjects. If we're just talking about football knowledge. Does that really matter in life? No one is informed on every subject. I'm sure there are things you don't know about, as is the same with me and everybody else. Where is your evidence then that teenagers are generally uninformed?

              1. There was no mention that he bought players as a result of their ownership. Jumping to conclusions.
              2. Liking players in what way? You have neither expressed that they may consider players they have positive personal feelings towards or those that can get them more points and therefore gratify themselves to the player. Your vague suggestion is useless.
              3. Your example completely fails. If you want to succeed in picking a demographic you must pick one where there is a low interest in the fantasy football game - but just enough to succeed, rather than a demographic you see as uninformed in general. Just because on is uninformed in general does not mean they would be in relation to football. I suggest you mention auto team selection players instead of teenagers.
              4. Stop being pompous, it isn't endearing.

From this discussion I infer that you in actuality are the uninformed one. Banal: So lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring. My numbered post clearly did not lack in originality in terms of content so to choose C would simply be stupid. The correct answer would have been the fact that the posts were numbered. Btw the reply button is non existent below the post in which you choose C.

Looks good to me, but it's a big risk to go with Toure as your only attacking cover from either one of Man U or City. I'd imagine they'll be the two most reliable teams for attacking returns, so it might be a good idea to have a reliable points scorer from at least one of them.

for me it's good. Midfield is a little laid back for my liking, maybe get a little bit cheaper defence to free up some cash for an upgrade, otherwise you look set. Deadline is getting close!

I had to choose between the midfield and Aguero....Aguero won ultimately.

Will free up cash using transfers, torres and terry both will be out of my team soon, so that should give me enough cash to upgrade the midfield.

chealse have dgw does not mean two def
cole and terry are keepers though choose one and the other have manc or manu def for 6
      ur mid is kinda shitty

I have but 3 more days to think about it. As I said Torres and Terry (Dawson and Jelavic) should free up some cash.

Btw what's your midfield like? Which big hitters do you have?

yes. but if you did aguero to tevez now you could upgrade one or two mf for gw 1. honestly i think aguero vs tevez will really be a flip of the coin type thing so would rather have a stronger mf to compensate if its aguero's week and not tevez's week as oppossed to have a weaker mf and have it not be aguero's week if you understand what i'm saying.

i've got mata, bale, and kagawa at the moment but not so sure about kagawa now. thinking either nasri or toure as replacements....

Alreet lads! What a relief that this transfer happened before saturday's deadline!! My team today is so different to yesterday!

I'm definitely avoiding rooney and rvp, and leads until I see how things work out. What is the general consensus? I don't have time to check back through 4,000+ posts!

imo i don't think much has changed. some people went crazy and tried to fit in RVP any way possible, but that died down eventually. I'm keeping GW2 transfer to Rooney as I think he will be key to Man United's success by both scoring and assisting RVP. That's my opinion, but make what you like of it

He'll still be a good option though there is uncertainty. The big one is pen duties.. but you'd expect Shrek to retain them until he misses one or 2 at least. Direct FKs though... many of those will go to RVP.

For me, a wait-and-see on the Rooney/RVP. If pressed, I think you could confidently pick up Rooney as he's still #1 and nailed on and on kicks. RVP will likely, imo, start off the bench.

I'm looking at Utd defense/midfield to begin with.

Agree with the general consensus so far. Wait-and-see on Minefield Utd players. Given the news, Santi Carzola has come into my side for Kagawa. Still keeping a spare 2m for the Torres > Rooney plan

I am still of the belief that Rooney will be the best prospect in FPL from United

Heard quotes attributed to Wenger saying they've already signed his replacement. Don't know if true, either way Giroud is a very, very intelligent player and I can certainly see him getting a lot of game time.

Huge goal threat but his ability to bring others into play is magnificent

Depends on who his replacement will be. It will certainly negatively affect the to begin with. He made them tick. Looking good for newcastle this weekend! No parker, sandro, modric, adebayor. We've got injuries, but i'm hoping most will play.

think they'll drop siggy or vdv back? who else might they sign to replace him?

should be an interesting game with injuries vs absenses/departures. can you handle bale though? 😉

Tiote, Cisse, Ba, Coloccini, Cabaye...I'd be concerned.

They are all just doubts. I would expect 3-4 of them to play. Spurs are all confirmed out

TW, I would definitely reconsider Kagawa if I was you. 4 into 2 just won't go!!

Yep. Nasri short term, yaya long. But even better, look for the extra 0.5m to get carzola
