With two days until the season kick-off, Robin Van Persieโ€™s future appears to have been decided with the announcement that Arsenal have agreed terms with Manchester United.

The official statement arrived this evening from Arsenal and United have also offered confirmation of the move, subject to a medical.

This is obviously momentous news on the eve of the Premier League and Fantasy season. Undoubtedly the biggest move of the summer transfer window so far, the Dutchmanโ€™s move to Old Trafford is โ€“ from a Fantasy perspective โ€“ arguably the most significant transfer since Cristiano Ronaldo left the Old Trafford club for Real Madrid in 2009:

Sir Alex Fergusonโ€™s acquisition of the former Gunners skipper hands United a lethal looking frontline as they look to wrestle the title back from neighbours City. The two top scoring players in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in 2011/12, Van Persie and Rooney โ€“ with 269 and 230 points respectively โ€“ will surely rack up goals aplenty but, with either of the two more than capable of accruing huge points hauls to the otherโ€™s detriment in any given Gameweek, we are left with an unwanted armband dilemma as the Fantasy landscape around us is altered irrevocably.

Quite how Van Persie will fit into the pecking order in terms of set-pieces and spot-kicks is a crucial factor which will be keenly anticipated by Fantasy managers โ€“ if Rooney continues as the number one for penalties, the Dutchmanโ€™s stock will clearly drop in our estimations, with a tussle for bonus also a significant factor is how we invest in the United frontline. The Fantasy popularity of new boy Shinji Kagawa perhaps now looks a little less appealing until a clearer picture of the situation at Old Trafford, in terms of tactics and the likelihood of rotation, is established.

Over at the Emirates, Van Persieโ€™s departure is surely set to boost the long-term appeal of new signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. The Gunnersโ€™ French-based scout Gilles Grimandi admitted only last month that Giroud was signed from Montpellier in anticipation of Van Persie leaving โ€“ a central role looks likely for the Frenchman, then, but with Wenger conceding his summer signings will be eased into action in the season ahead, their initial impact is perhaps questionable. Despite this, it seems Podolski, at least, is set to start against Sunderland on Saturday as the Gunners gear up for action without their former skipper.

Fellow new-boy Santi Cazorla, though, now looks the most likely Gunner to benefit in terms of set-pieces; potentially, he should be handed corners and free-kicks, while the issue of spot-kicks looks up for grabs โ€“ Podolski scored from the spot on Sunday, though itโ€™s worth noting that Mikel Arteta didnโ€™t feature in the 4-0 win over Cologne.

Weโ€™ll have more on the full impact of the Van Persie move and its knock-on effects for both sides in a more substantial Moving Target later.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Since the RVP news, my team has slowly been morphing into my "no big hitters" version. Are Tevez, Torres, Carzola, Bale, Nasri (dempsey when fit) good enough captain options? I don't know whether I can cope with "guessing" about Rooney or RVP. Only one will be a good captain option each week!

Wow... first time getting on today, this news definately could change my team. Here is my team currently:

    Green
    Hangeland Zabaleta Cole A
    Mata (C) Bale YayaToure Noble
    Rooney (VC) Jelavic Graham
    SUBS: Friedel Williams Guthrie McCartney

.5 mil left in the bank, anyone mind giving me some advice? Before this transfer, my biggest concern was no striker from Man City, after this I am not really sure what to do with the team. Any help would be appreciated!

You really Don't need striker from Man City. Yes they have lots of scoring players but they also rotate players a lot just to keep all of them happy which one bad thing about strikers from Man City.

Right, in the past having Man City strikers never seemed to work for me. I just worry about only having Yaya for my Man City attacking coverage. I have .5, so if I decide to I could swap Yaya with Nasri or I could swap Jelavic with Tevez. Jelavic for Tevez looks like a better option in the first week at least, but I want a player who will do well for at least the first six gameweeks.

I think it's a little early to invest in any of them - Silva not up to speed, and neither Arsenal or Liverpool early fixtures look great.

Dont like either of those options

      Silva- unlikley to start
Podolski- unknown and cld be out wide
      Gerrard- poor fixtures
      Giroud- will he start?

Dont let real football and fantasy football blur, just because you support Arsenal doesnt mean you have to have their players. Wait and see for me

        Silva- why wouldn't he start?
Gerrard- has had a great pre-season and is Gerrard, so why do the fixtures need to be favorable for him to do well. He's class.
Giroud- Yes... "RVP's replacement" said by Wenger.

      Neither.

Silva is not fit yet. Gerrard has bad fixtures, and Giroud has hardly even played a preseason game.

Maybe Nasri and Podolski and save / use the 1.5 elsewhere.

Yeah they were trialing a 3 at the back formation with wing backs. Kolarov playing left wing, but looks like they could just abandon the new formation for the season in which case Kolarov would drop right out of the team.

He released a statement straight after the Euros stating that he did not want to renew his contract at Arsenal. He was upfront about it to Wenger, the club and the fans. He signs for United for a fee that both clubs agreed on and he's a traitor.. explain that one to me?

The 2 fingers to MUN attacking coverage approach (at least until GW3....)

    De Gea, Federici
    Ivanovic, Zabaleta, Hangelaand, Cuellar, Demel
    Mata, VDV, Walcott, Taarabt, Noble
    Torres, Tevez, Graham
    Bank 0.0m

Then, by GW3 we'll hopefully know how MUN are lining up, and I can do Mata & Torres -> RVP/Rooney & Pienaar.

    Thoughts?

I still don't like Taraabt as a fantasy prospect.

      I'd go Bale+Lampard over Mata+VDV.

unless you are doin gthe GW3 WC strategy, taarbat is a bad choice. You can just wait till fixture goes good and assess his prospect

the only difference between that side and mine is you have

      Cuellar, Demel, Walcott

      I have

      Fabio, Clyne, Cazorla

I think mine is better ๐Ÿ˜‰

        Haha, I disagree! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cazorla is the better player, no doubt, but for FPL I think Walcott could be dynamite this season. I also rate SUN over QPR defensively.

This team is VERY similar to my current draft.

I've got bale, sessegnon, n'zogbia, guthrie to your mata, vdv, taarbt, noble

Was looking at tarbaat, but I would have needed to play him most games, and his fixtures aren't good enough for that

Sessegnon ๐Ÿ˜ฏ He's a doubt for the first week I think, plus I think for 1m extra there are far better options (VDV,Walcott etc). Taarabt is tricky cause his first too are great, then it's horrible after that. He's on the cusp for me.

if you have friedel you should get federici as he has a double gwk and rotates almost perfectly with him throughout the course of the season. This would mean getting in other cheapo def's for gunter and barnett possibly. Some possible changes - komp > zaba, terry > cashley, guthrie > dyer
