It’s the first Monday Night Football installment of the season, and we’re at Goodison Park to see Everton host Manchester United. The build-up to this game has surrounded around the arrival of Robin van Persie at Manchester United, and how he would feature this evening. The Dugout Discussion is open and the eagerly anticipated team news is in…

Everton XI: Howard, Hibbert, Baines, Distin, Jagielka, Neville, Osman, Fellaini, Pienaar, Gibson, Jelavic.

Man United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Vidic, Carrick, Evra, Cleverley, Kagawa, Scholes, Nani, Welbeck, Rooney.

Sir Alex Ferguson chooses to start just one of his two major signings, and it’s the Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa that makes his United debut. It’s a makeshift defence with Antonio Valencia and Michael Carrick filling the gaps. Robin van Persie starts on the bench.

As for the hosts, David Moyes names a familiar looking side, leaving new signing Steven Naismith on the bench.

Follow all the action as it unfolds in our Dugout Discussion chatroom, which is open and can be accessed right here.

Arsenal knocked 6 past Everton a couple of years ago so don't you worry about the strength of fixtures lad.

Grounderz, you are obviously too thick to understand his point, Arsenal drew yet Spurs, Liverpool and now United all lose but the media dress Arsenals point as the terrible result.

Get it now....? Need more time....?

Liverpool are a top 7 team though, little expectation of them to do much of anything by people with much sense. Manchester United are always contenders for the title, Arsenal haven't been outside of the Top 4 in an age which means there is a greater expectation of results.

Arsenal drawing at home isn't a disaster just as Manchester United losing away isn't. Been a tough bunch of opening fixtures for the 'top teams' as is represented in the league table.

But both are fixtures the top teams in full swing would expect to take full points away from. It's the different reactions to similar-scale results which has disconcerted this poor Arsenal fan.

    Evening lads

well done Everton, took a chance well and worked hard to keep it. Valencia at rb was the wrong call, as Nani was 7 shades of shit (and is off my wanted list) and his corner taking has actually gotten worse, didn't think that was possible. if you bought Vidic for his goal threat, get rid, we have to actually be able to get a corner into the danger area to be dangerous from them.

On another note, is the Fellaini bandwagon up and running? That's one I'm tempted by.

I think Moyes just read his tactics perfectly and set up accordingly. Fellaini away from Vidic to bully the defence physically and jelly dragging him about. Everything else was close down and pass short and fast, just don't make stupid mistakes.

Nani was horrible but Young isn't much better. He may get the default start because of the injuries in the defense.

Cleverly should start. He and Kagawa were quite good today.

    Saw the replay again now.

If Wellbeck had done his job, he might have cleared that. He should stay on the inside of the post.

Intoxicating game. Happy with how Pienaar looked. Everton in general look great and I can see them using this as a springboard for the top 5. Maybe a touch early to guage, but seeing as Newcastle have Europa distractions and Spurs, Arsenal and Pool look out of sorts they could be right in the thick of it.

So if I can't afford Rooney/RvP and already have Tevez, who's the best replacement for Aguero?
Assuming he's going to miss a few games, I don't think I can stomach 11.5 million on the bench this early in the season.

Is TotalFPL reliable when it says that Agüero only has lost 54,3% of the required ownership to get a price fall? Want to wait as long as possible before I swap him out.

Lessons not learned from last season for United. Fellaini bullied them at Old Trafford and he bullied them here. Granted not being able to field Ferdinand and perhaps, Jones, as a physical counter was unfortunate. United looked dozy though. Kagawa was the only player who looked sharp.

can play as a deep lying playmaker but has played in behind the striker in the odd european game. decent set piece taker, although dont think ever score direct from one. more of a link man than anything, definitely not in the mould of britton though.

With the exception of Kagawa (who put in some good slide rule passes), the United attack was very poor. Credit to Everton's defence though, they looked pretty robust and well organised.

Right. I know we take the p*ss out of Rooney calling him fat and that in the past but come on he's not really fat is he?

However, did you see the state him tonight?!

He as well overweight, puffing like he's smoking 40 a today and his ars*.... Well his ars* was like the back end of a London double decker bus. The porkie tw4t !!!

I'm keeping my £2m in bank, playing Torres and bringing in defoe someone, or anyone or no one.

    Jeeeeezzzzzz....

That is right -- he looked all red and sweaty, a bit too portly for a professional playing in the Euros. It looked like he'd been out all night on the sauce, and was thrown into a football game.
