This season we’ll be running a couple of weekly articles which focus specifically on our two supported Fantasy games, the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and the Sky Sports Fantasy game. While those articles will differ in content, they both give us the opportunity to recognise the front-runners in our respective leagues, giving a nod to our community’s outstanding Fantasy managers. We’ll also use them to examine trends and patterns in the games, with particularly emphasis on transfer activity. We start with this week’s FPL focus…

Scout League Standings

David Byers leads the way with a monster 95 point haul on the board already. Michu and Mladen Petrov chipped in with 34 points between them, while a trio of City players earned him 14 points. With three Chelsea players still to feature tomorrow evening – including captain Branislav Ivanovic – he looks set to improve upon his overall ranking of 19 already.

Sitting in second place, Steve Woods is another to benefit hugely from Petric and Michu, with Ivanovic also handed the armband. He also heads into tomorrow’s match with three Blues players, though while our top two both have Juan Mata, Steve has Ashley Cole to David’s Fernando Torres.

Mark Durham is in third place, thanks to Michu and Petric amongst others; he has two Chelsea players for the Reading clash, though Eden Hazard arrives at the Bridge with the armband. Will Chen is next up on 93 points, despite having Fernando Torres as captain – Michu, Petric, Samir Nasri, Kevin Nolan and Ivanovic all returned double figures for him, while Neil Glenister completes the top five – again, Petric, Michu and an armband on Ivanovic was crucial to his cause.

For the Contributors, Greek Fan has been quickest out the blocks. West Ham pair Jussi Jaaskelainen and Kevin Nolan returned 16 points, while Ivanovic, Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez all produced attacking returns. He still has three Chelsea players for tomorrow, with Torres handed the armband.

The Market Trends

Unsurprisingly, Michu leads the way with almost 100,000 Fantasy managers snapping up the Spaniard’s services on the back of his 18 point debut haul at QPR. With Swansea now facing five home games in the next seven, Michu has increased in price to 6.6 in FPL and, given his side’s added attacking thrust under Michael Laudrup, the trend in ownership looks set to continue. Nathan Dyer is also proving popular – priced at 5.5, he has been acquired by nearly 55,000 teams since returning a brace and maximum bonus points at Loftus Road.

Carlos Tevez has proven to be the second most popular Fantasy target. With doubts surrounding Sergio Aguero’s knee problem, Tevez has been transferred in by over 80,000 Fantasy managers and is the only other player to have risen in cost, up to 9.1 after his opener against Southampton. Mladen Petric has picked up 41,000 new suitors after his 16 point haul against Norwich on Saturday but, with three away trips in the next four, including a Gameweek 2 visit to Old Trafford, he could struggle to justify the investment right now.

The respective displays of Branislav Ivanovic and Eden Hazard against Wigan on Sunday has seen the pair make their way into a combined 84,000 teams, despite the fact that Chelsea have a blank Gameweek 3 on the horizon. Newcastle pair Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba make their way to the Bridge this weekend and have also featured highly in Fantasy managers’ estimations after they both found the net against Spurs – a combined total of almost 68,000 have jumped on board for the Magpies duo.

Unsurprisingly, Sergio Aguero is top for transfers out, with over 109,000 already selling on the Argentine after he pulled up early with a knee problem against Southampton. Juan Mata and Fernando Torres have both been subject to significant sales – despite having a game against Reading tomorrow, many Fantasy managers have already lost patience, with a combined 30,000 shipping the Blues pair out.

Ramires’ absence through illness at the DW on Sunday has seen 35,000 part company with the Brazilian – priced at 7.0, a move to Michu has been the likely trade to make here ahead of Swansea’s fixtures, though he has since been fit to play in tomorrow night’s match with Reading. Liverpool new boy Joe Allen has lost over 30,000 Fantasy backers already, while at the back, Fabricio Coloccini and Jose Enrique’s weekend absences has seen almost 17,000 and 16,000 move on the pair already.

Trying to figure out who to bring in for Aguero before the price drop.
Right now, in order of preference I 'm thinking Rvp, Rooney, Tevez, Adebayor. Is that about right?
Any other bright ideas out there?

cheers, trying to figure out some United coverage .With their run of 3 good fixtures it looks essential, whereas this week I'm not so sure City will run riot over Liverpool. Maybe I'll wait a week on United to get a better sense of how they are playing..

      Aggy to Rooney.

It's the 'obvious' choice. You'd want a nailed-on, home-banker, big-game, explosive scorer for a potential Captain's choice, right? I bet you even considered Rooney pre-season, right? You have no Utd attacking players, right?

      Do the right thing. 😉

[team linked] I don't ... but I would sooner buy/captain Roon than RVP, for the reasons above. In fact, it's the reasons above for *why* I don't own them. The big pointers don't always score the points ... this week shows that.

I just guessed really wrong this GW 😀

I hope he might, just to see how it goes. But would I advise you to splurge 13.0 when we're really not *sure*? Or if he'll play 60 mins. for a few weeks? Or if being not the only person on a team has any affect on his points?

Seems a big ask. He's not a bad choice, and a flair one at that - as I allude to. I'm not ready to punt that big right now, so I wouldn't advise you to be.

But, then, by my GW score - I suck. So: grain of salt ...

True, Rooney is a sure thing to play and even with RVP in the lineup he'll still score. 13m is a big risk, it eats up a huge amount of your budget..you might have swayed me towards Wayne with your words of caution 🙂

    Morning all

Blackpool still top of the Championship after beating Dirty Leeds last night. Great stuff!

The only fly in the ointment is that Southampton are after Matt Phillips, who scored the winner last night and is a more than decent player. Holloway says No Way but money talks, as we all know. If he moves and looks like being a regular starter I'd be very tempted, depending on his price.

Since I missed it, I just watched the second half of the United - Everton game and tbh Rooney really wasn't that bad. I think he was getting into good positions by picking up the ball early it's just that all of the play was through the wings so none of the balls were getting to van Persie, which SAF recognised http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19327903 so I reckon come Saturday they will have fixed this and RVP will bag at least 1 with Rooney active as well.

Probably a recurring question here but.... I'm buying Rooney or RVP tonight. Which one do people think?

My own thoughts are Rooney should do well and won't be nearly as badly affected by RVP's presence as some people seem to think, in fact it could even be better for him. I'd captain him this weekend and reckon he and RVP could get a quality partnership going.
If I get RVP I can't confidently captain him in case he doesn't start, which means captaining Michu, Bent or Tevez in GW2. IMO he's the far superior player with higher potential point returns in the long run though there's always the (unlikely) scenario that he doesn't fit into the Man U make-up and flops.

    So Rooney or RVP?!

It's a tough call, but I'm swaying towards RVP. My view is that both are pretty nailed on to start, but RVP is likely to be playing the most advanced. Looks like RVP is on corners from the right and, well, who knows about penalties. It should be RVP (he is better at them), but stripping Rooney of them is unlikely until he misses imo) Whichever you get, definitely captain them imo. United will want a reaction after losing GW1 and at home to Fulham isn't the worst games to do so.

I'm pondering a Torres -> RVP(c) for a hit. On it's own, this is debatable, but given that I can then play a strong front 7 in GW3 instead of benching Lamps and Guthrie, I think it warrants the hit.

I might end up flipping a coin at this stage.

Another thing is United can afford to better control RVP's condition over the season whereas as Arsenal pretty much had to play him every game. SAF will be wary of overusing him in case of injury, though this will probably only be relevant once the CL starts up again.

I think I may just go Rooney and confidently captain him. If RVP gets proper game time and overshadows Rooney I can always swap easily enough.

definitely RVP. Rooney will act solely as a creator with RVP as the finisher. This didn't happen on Monday as they went through the wings rather than the centre. SAF has recognised this http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19327903 and will definitely implement it this week in training. He didn't use 24 million for nothing

Which of these switches would be best for GW2?

    Torres > Rooney
    or
Ramires to Michu or similarly priced midfielder.

Bearing in mind I have both Graham and Kagawa already.

You are actually not winning it. It's only 1 GW gone with 37 more to come. Keep calm

Probably but why waste a wildcard this early, there will be plenty of double gameweeks as the season progresses with Chelsea been involved in the Club World Championship. Using the WC then will be smart

Would like to get him asap, plus Everton look to have clean sheet potential written all over them. Will have to wait a few weeks though.

When will Agueros price drop? On fisco says 44,000 NTI and it will drop but nearly 100,000 and still not dropped.
