This season we’ll be running a couple of weekly articles which focus specifically on our two supported Fantasy games, the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and the Sky Sports Fantasy game. While those articles will differ in content, they both give us the opportunity to recognise the front-runners in our respective leagues, giving a nod to our community’s outstanding Fantasy managers. We’ll also use them to examine trends and patterns in the games, with particularly emphasis on transfer activity. We start with this week’s FPL focus…

Scout League Standings

David Byers leads the way with a monster 95 point haul on the board already. Michu and Mladen Petrov chipped in with 34 points between them, while a trio of City players earned him 14 points. With three Chelsea players still to feature tomorrow evening – including captain Branislav Ivanovic – he looks set to improve upon his overall ranking of 19 already.

Sitting in second place, Steve Woods is another to benefit hugely from Petric and Michu, with Ivanovic also handed the armband. He also heads into tomorrow’s match with three Blues players, though while our top two both have Juan Mata, Steve has Ashley Cole to David’s Fernando Torres.

Mark Durham is in third place, thanks to Michu and Petric amongst others; he has two Chelsea players for the Reading clash, though Eden Hazard arrives at the Bridge with the armband. Will Chen is next up on 93 points, despite having Fernando Torres as captain – Michu, Petric, Samir Nasri, Kevin Nolan and Ivanovic all returned double figures for him, while Neil Glenister completes the top five – again, Petric, Michu and an armband on Ivanovic was crucial to his cause.

For the Contributors, Greek Fan has been quickest out the blocks. West Ham pair Jussi Jaaskelainen and Kevin Nolan returned 16 points, while Ivanovic, Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez all produced attacking returns. He still has three Chelsea players for tomorrow, with Torres handed the armband.

The Market Trends

Unsurprisingly, Michu leads the way with almost 100,000 Fantasy managers snapping up the Spaniard’s services on the back of his 18 point debut haul at QPR. With Swansea now facing five home games in the next seven, Michu has increased in price to 6.6 in FPL and, given his side’s added attacking thrust under Michael Laudrup, the trend in ownership looks set to continue. Nathan Dyer is also proving popular – priced at 5.5, he has been acquired by nearly 55,000 teams since returning a brace and maximum bonus points at Loftus Road.

Carlos Tevez has proven to be the second most popular Fantasy target. With doubts surrounding Sergio Aguero’s knee problem, Tevez has been transferred in by over 80,000 Fantasy managers and is the only other player to have risen in cost, up to 9.1 after his opener against Southampton. Mladen Petric has picked up 41,000 new suitors after his 16 point haul against Norwich on Saturday but, with three away trips in the next four, including a Gameweek 2 visit to Old Trafford, he could struggle to justify the investment right now.

The respective displays of Branislav Ivanovic and Eden Hazard against Wigan on Sunday has seen the pair make their way into a combined 84,000 teams, despite the fact that Chelsea have a blank Gameweek 3 on the horizon. Newcastle pair Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba make their way to the Bridge this weekend and have also featured highly in Fantasy managers’ estimations after they both found the net against Spurs – a combined total of almost 68,000 have jumped on board for the Magpies duo.

Unsurprisingly, Sergio Aguero is top for transfers out, with over 109,000 already selling on the Argentine after he pulled up early with a knee problem against Southampton. Juan Mata and Fernando Torres have both been subject to significant sales – despite having a game against Reading tomorrow, many Fantasy managers have already lost patience, with a combined 30,000 shipping the Blues pair out.

Ramires’ absence through illness at the DW on Sunday has seen 35,000 part company with the Brazilian – priced at 7.0, a move to Michu has been the likely trade to make here ahead of Swansea’s fixtures, though he has since been fit to play in tomorrow night’s match with Reading. Liverpool new boy Joe Allen has lost over 30,000 Fantasy backers already, while at the back, Fabricio Coloccini and Jose Enrique’s weekend absences has seen almost 17,000 and 16,000 move on the pair already.

Who are the best striking options for GW2?

    RVP,
    Rooney,
    Graham,

Doubts on any of those players form going into GW2, is there any striker on form with a good fixture?

Swansea won 5-0 playing 4-5-1 and graham did not get a goal or assist. He may be a good striker but if he doesant register goals or assists he doesant get the points. Swansea have good fixtures and if he starts producing fantasy returns i could get him in, but looking for the dark horse of GW2.

It's one game. Chill. He looked good. Movement was great. Graham scores most of his goals at home anyway in the League.

Graham also got 6 goals in pre-season. No goals in GW1 is all you should go on, it's only one game. He's a good dark horse too as most will be captaining Roo/RvP/Tevez. Of those Tevez is the one with any form and he has a difficult fixture.

33 on the bench is a sting, but plenty of time to get those calls right.
hhmm.. For me Nasri was always a 1 week punt. I know he did well but the threat of rotation, plus tough fixture has me itching to get him out. Mata the following week with Ivan benched was the plan.

It is, but at this point, I think Defoe will continue with the start and then Adebayor comes on from the bench. And then the following GW, Adebayor will start.

Which just messes up my striker options further. Keeping Aguero for now as I dithered too much and missed the price changes, would like to ship out Torres but now need to get rid of Defoe as well.

Defoe wasn't a good pick with Adebayor in negotiation stages back then. And then you have a player who will miss GW3 as well so that adds up all the risk. And then again, Aguero happens to be unfortunate so it sort of gives you bit of problem there.

P/S: You take hits if you are very certain that a certain player will prosper. 😉

Not sure on Defoe, the shot where he hit the post, had it been on target i felt krul would have made the save, and the one where he did score was a rebound off the post and anyone could have scored it. ln previous seasons i've seen defoe create goals for himself, but this AVB manager hasnt got the right balance with spurs atm.

Just read about the Ade deal on the beeb....what are City thinking? They've been royally bent over by Levy. So Spurs pay $5 mil for him and then city pay the $80K a week gap in salary thats $4mil a season on presumably a 5 season contract? The worlds gone mad.......

I thought $5mil was cheap in the first place, especially given spurs lack of options up front. But then basically essentially just writting off $16mil in salaries over a 4 year period and providing an asset to a team that could potentially be competing for the premiership makes no sense.....put it this way you couldnt see it happening in the corporate world.

You'd be instantly dismissed for suggesting it. It's like Toyota giving Ford the rights for the new Corolla and agreeing to provide the tyres and seats in exchange for a packet of crisps and a kick in the balls.

          Heres my thinking....

I think RVP and Rooney are a more natural partnership that Tevez and Kun. Rooney loves playing deaper and getting more involved and RVP loves to be up against the last man and central. i understand that RVP has provided more assists thatn any other player and last season he scored a few too.... IMO he will play more forward and is going to get a shed load of servcie from Kag, Rooney, Valncia, Nani, Young etc etc I dont think hes a rotation risk early as Fergie is stubborn and will want him to come up to speed asap which means game time and plenty of it.......

The Sun reckons that Chelsea are still going to buy a big striker before the window shuts. They reckon carvani. That would make it easier for me to get rid of torres, and give chelsea a great chance of competing with the manchesters for the league.

They really do need a striker upfront. Considering the amount they have spent on their midfield this year, it makes no sense to not invest in strikers, especially as they are stuck with Torres, & Sturridge.

Reckon a huge bid closer to deadline day for 30m-40m for one of their rumored targets.

Morning China, I'm thinking about some attacking NEW coverage from GW5 - best option?

Seems like it's between Ba and Barfa at the mo right?

Both could be good options. I would go for barfa myself. Watch out for how we line up in europe this week. If either ba or cisse starts, then we could have an idea that one will play more in europe, and so less in the premier league. We won't go 4-4-2 (with wingers) every game. Especially after the signing of anita. I expect ba to still play a lot on the left, or on the bench. I think Barfa is undervalued and would definitely get him for a nice run of fixtures. Maybe GW9.

    GW2 Team:
    DDG
    Cuellar-Zab-Terry
    Bale-Mata-Larsson-Michu
    Torres-Tevez-Graham
    BENCH: Fabio, Demel, Guthrie

    2.0 in the bank

    Currently thinking Torres->Rooney(C)

    Any suggested transfers??

You would get £6.6m. When a player goes up you get half of the difference so:

          £6.5 to £6.7m - you get £6.6m
          £6.5 to £7.1m - you get £6.8m

The sale price formula for a player who raised in value since your purchase is original purchase price + (price gain / 2). So in this case, it's 6.5 + (0.2 / 2) = 6.6

yeh, but even then do u think hel pay throughout the season, even if he played every other game he is a bargain at 4.5 (i think im jus hoping he does)

the issue is how do you pick the games he plays? First rule of fight club is pick players that will play.....or something like that

Nothing is long-term, my friend. If you play last season, compare your GW1 team and GW38 team.

I reckon thats exactly how they'll set up. I think RDM see this as his first choice line up.....

I think its a good move tbh. I currently have VDV and want to take him out for Siggy but dont want to take a hit as it's too much of a sideways move.

Is double Spurs midfield overkill? I have VDV too. Mata gone for Bale seems like overkill/risky given that we have no indication that the Spurs attack is gonna light up.

Am thinking of making Tevez my default captain ......i.e captain for every week unless there's DGW or a player really on fire??????????

See how Utd go at the weekend, you might want to rotate with whoever the home forward is.... oc course this strategy isnt without risk either.

personally i like players who get bonus points without scoring or assisting
1.shows that they peformed (are peforming) well
2.they (mcclean) are due some goals...

Cant believe Utd robbed us of a left back: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19322961 still reckon they only got him because they couldnt afford Fox..... (Fox fresh from his assist for Nasri's winner)

    McClean 3
    Baines 3

I love how Jenkinson scored the same amount as Vermaelen. Makes me wish the recovered balls scoring was utilized. I'm saying this as a Vem owner of course lol.

McClean is the most surprising to me. Got one shot on target straight at Woj...
