This season we’ll be running a couple of weekly articles which focus specifically on our two supported Fantasy games, the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and the Sky Sports Fantasy game. While those articles will differ in content, they both give us the opportunity to recognise the front-runners in our respective leagues, giving a nod to our community’s outstanding Fantasy managers. We’ll also use them to examine trends and patterns in the games, with particularly emphasis on transfer activity. We start with this week’s FPL focus…

Scout League Standings

David Byers leads the way with a monster 95 point haul on the board already. Michu and Mladen Petrov chipped in with 34 points between them, while a trio of City players earned him 14 points. With three Chelsea players still to feature tomorrow evening – including captain Branislav Ivanovic – he looks set to improve upon his overall ranking of 19 already.

Sitting in second place, Steve Woods is another to benefit hugely from Petric and Michu, with Ivanovic also handed the armband. He also heads into tomorrow’s match with three Blues players, though while our top two both have Juan Mata, Steve has Ashley Cole to David’s Fernando Torres.

Mark Durham is in third place, thanks to Michu and Petric amongst others; he has two Chelsea players for the Reading clash, though Eden Hazard arrives at the Bridge with the armband. Will Chen is next up on 93 points, despite having Fernando Torres as captain – Michu, Petric, Samir Nasri, Kevin Nolan and Ivanovic all returned double figures for him, while Neil Glenister completes the top five – again, Petric, Michu and an armband on Ivanovic was crucial to his cause.

For the Contributors, Greek Fan has been quickest out the blocks. West Ham pair Jussi Jaaskelainen and Kevin Nolan returned 16 points, while Ivanovic, Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez all produced attacking returns. He still has three Chelsea players for tomorrow, with Torres handed the armband.

The Market Trends

Unsurprisingly, Michu leads the way with almost 100,000 Fantasy managers snapping up the Spaniard’s services on the back of his 18 point debut haul at QPR. With Swansea now facing five home games in the next seven, Michu has increased in price to 6.6 in FPL and, given his side’s added attacking thrust under Michael Laudrup, the trend in ownership looks set to continue. Nathan Dyer is also proving popular – priced at 5.5, he has been acquired by nearly 55,000 teams since returning a brace and maximum bonus points at Loftus Road.

Carlos Tevez has proven to be the second most popular Fantasy target. With doubts surrounding Sergio Aguero’s knee problem, Tevez has been transferred in by over 80,000 Fantasy managers and is the only other player to have risen in cost, up to 9.1 after his opener against Southampton. Mladen Petric has picked up 41,000 new suitors after his 16 point haul against Norwich on Saturday but, with three away trips in the next four, including a Gameweek 2 visit to Old Trafford, he could struggle to justify the investment right now.

The respective displays of Branislav Ivanovic and Eden Hazard against Wigan on Sunday has seen the pair make their way into a combined 84,000 teams, despite the fact that Chelsea have a blank Gameweek 3 on the horizon. Newcastle pair Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba make their way to the Bridge this weekend and have also featured highly in Fantasy managers’ estimations after they both found the net against Spurs – a combined total of almost 68,000 have jumped on board for the Magpies duo.

Unsurprisingly, Sergio Aguero is top for transfers out, with over 109,000 already selling on the Argentine after he pulled up early with a knee problem against Southampton. Juan Mata and Fernando Torres have both been subject to significant sales – despite having a game against Reading tomorrow, many Fantasy managers have already lost patience, with a combined 30,000 shipping the Blues pair out.

Ramires’ absence through illness at the DW on Sunday has seen 35,000 part company with the Brazilian – priced at 7.0, a move to Michu has been the likely trade to make here ahead of Swansea’s fixtures, though he has since been fit to play in tomorrow night’s match with Reading. Liverpool new boy Joe Allen has lost over 30,000 Fantasy backers already, while at the back, Fabricio Coloccini and Jose Enrique’s weekend absences has seen almost 17,000 and 16,000 move on the pair already.

    Morning lads,
I am getting excited by all this RVP talk and want to get him in. For that I will have to take a hit as I have only 2.5 in the bank. Should I do it? I will have to downgrade Cashley to Kaboul to do Torres to RVP. This way I will have doubled up on Spurs defense as I already have Friedel(whom I will remove for DDG past GW2). So should I do it?

If you're convinced he's going to score heavilly enough to be worth £13m get him. For that amount of money I'd want to have seen him playing well in the new team.

No, actually thinking of keeping and going with:

        Bego/Jussi
        Hughes/Cuellar/Clyne/4.5/7.6m
        Pienaar/Nolan/Michu/McClean or Larsson/Bale
        Rvp/Tevez/Ade

I think that's what the number say at the back.

That lightens up your midfield but could work out brilliantly as all your mids are capable of scoring points. I see you don't have any of the 3 strikers currently. I won't WC so early in the game tbh, but if you feel like you need to, do it.

You'll always play those 3 strikers so you don't need 5 good mids. Could even downgrade Nolan for a 4.5 and beef up McClean/Larsson or get another solid defender/keeper.

No need I would say. You may need a big defender somewhere in the future. Personally, I like your team but the idea of WC just one GW after puts me off. But that is because I an hoping to use it some other time. If you think this is the best time, use it.

Very good option for 5th midfielder , providing you dont expect much from him . At that pric it dosent matter if he only scores two every week, especially as he likely to be on your subs bench most of the time

yeah that makes sense. CL group matches you mean? think he has the chance to threaten busquets spot for the big games though? also its nice he can play center back too

also, do you have any idea why mascherano started over pique this weekend?

            - Busquets will start some CL matches also.

            - For now, Busquets will keep his spot. If Song does perform better, then Busquets place will be threatened.
            For me, Busquets > Song.

            - Yeah, Thats why we were after him.

            - No idea about that. I think Vilanova Just wanted to give Puyol a game. Javier & Pique will start most of the games.

yeah makes sense. think it'll be tough for song to take busquets spot cuz he does such a great job at cdm, such an underrated player imo. though he does dive a bit much i'll admit

yeah fits perfect as he can replace kieta and fill in cb

you think mascherano will start over puyol?? when fit puyol does such a great job! and he's a goal threat from set pieces!

Masche is nailed on, the rotation will be Puyol/Pique/Song (or 2 of them will play when playing a 3 man defense).
Pique's form is really bad since 1 year now, but Carles cannot play week in/week out.

    point of correction,
kaca as 4.5 he aint bench fodder like britton, guthrie, noble he is a winger playing 90 minutes for a team scoring 5 goals at home. I actually think he might be better than most 7.0 and below mids and would play him all home games and expect points....

Good player if Kackankanik dont perform, but imo I really think that as long as Kackkinknkkijkk (that guy) plays good, he will continue to start.. The season is long, Rodallega will play (ofc), but hes not that good really imo

Not saying Rodallega is any good, I for fact hate strikers that are sooo inefficient. But fulham seem to like him as they payed him lots of money. So I would expect rotation between the 2. I could be wrong dough. But I would not rely on Kac for points.

Yeah your right in not relying on points from him, its a great option as a 4,5 mid tho.. he will get his game time, and hes actually pretty good when he plays (scores, very involved). I really have high hopes for this guy, would love to see him getting more callups to our nationalteam 🙂

Great player for sure, just be prepared of some 1 pointers. Excellent pickup for you swedes. I wonder if your coach likes him dough, he seems not to trust tricky wingers. Not taking Kac for Euros at all and failing to play my favorite swede Wilhelmmson who always did very well when playing IMO.

Yeah I know.. hes a bit tricky good old Hamrén.. He wants to play 4-2-3-1, but not with wingers like Wilhelmsson or Kackakai, he rather plays Forwards out of position, like Toivonen.. which is madness imo

Hey guys please rate my wildcard team (I know, I know). But in fact I'm trying to decide between a few different approaches:

    A)
    De Gea (McCarthy)
    Zabaleta Cuellar Clyne (Simpson, Demel)
    Bale Nasri Cazorla Michu (Kaca)
    Rooney Defoe Tevez

    or

    B)
    De Gea (McCarthy)
    Zabaleta Cuellar Gallas (Simpson, Demel)
    Bale Nasri Cazorla Michu Hazard
    Defoe Tevez (Petric)

    or

    C)
    De Gea (McCarthy)
    Ivanovic Zabaleta Cuellar (Simpson, Demel)
    Bale Nasri Cazorla Michu Pienaar
    Petric Defoe Tevez
    +1.5m

Problem I have with A is I think it will take some time for ManU to gel, and I don't think Rooney or RVP will immediately justify their price tags or even outscore them. Kagawa is a good player but looked unselfish to a fault and I don't think he's going to be a great fantasy player. B's midfield makes me feel like I hacked the system, and C is perhaps the most well balanced. Thoughts?

Started on time but upon the deadline decided on 6 DGW so I was willing to WC if it backfired. On 51 points but felt terrible about dropping Michu last minute and knew I wanted to make more than that one move. So I've already "wildcarded" Michu, Petric, and Cazorla to my team and DDG, Ivan, Zaba, Simpson, Demel, Bale, Tevez, and Defoe are originals.

WC already?! Hat's off to you, sir...

Not sure about Defoe long term in any of these set ups. That said, I'd go A

Yeah it probably isn't wise and I may change it, but my own stubbornness and anti-conventional wisdom wants to roll the dice on him. I just hate to go a full 'standard' team. Sadly that is one of the reasons I dropped Michu -- that he was such a trendy pick!

I like the look of C.

Why McCarthy? Does he rotate with DG or is he 4.0 and you start DG every week. Sorry to lazy to look him up 🙂

4.0 backing Federicci at Reading. I figure this is an economic way of locking down ManU defense coverage for the season.

    Big question is does

    RVP + 5.5 MID = 18.5 MILLION

    BEAT

    10 MILLION MID + 8.5 STRIKER ???

    or various combinations there of?
By not getting Van persie can significantly upgrade a midfielder to one of the elites and still have a fairly strong striker who is guarnteed starts.

Im in two minds , just cant decide what to do

Or even stick with Torres 10m and get kagawa 8.5m

does that beat van persie 13m and 5.5 mid?

      maybe torres bad example 🙂

What would you feel more comfortable with, captaining a 10m mid or captaining RVP?

I have the same problem, saved 3.5 just to do Torres - RvP
But now I just start to see other options, like a better midfield, or even Adebayor.
Options right now are Podolski - RvP, Or Rooney - Adebayor
Or Adebayor - Podski + a lot of money to spend in midfield..
geesh, I should really just go with my plan and take RvP

For me the best under 8.5 strikers are Graham(especially now with pens) and Ba as long as Pardew plays him centrally.

9 million mid and Ade could be the best option dough.

Well if you don't have any other United coverage (like me) I would go with RVP. Especially when the 10.0 mil striker is Torres.
