Marouane Fellaini torments United from start to finish and hands Everton the three points after heading home from a corner. The Toffees continue the strong home form displayed at the end of last season, while United’s two new boys produce contrasting performances as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side get off to a losing start:

Marouane Fellaini
Tucking in behind Nikica Jelavic in David Moyes’ trusted 4-5-1 formation, the Belgian’s aerial ability proved the undoing of United time and again. With Everton targeting the visitors full-backs with long, diagonal balls, Fellaini continually put Sir Alex Ferguson’s side under pressure and grabbed the only goal of the game as Everton pulled off the first shock of the season. As to whether he will continue to play as far more is perhaps debatable – Kevin Mirallas wasn’t registered in time for the game and is also versatile enough to play fill the position but at 6.5 in FPL and 6.1 in the Sky Sports game, Fellaini is sure to see plenty investment before the weekend’s trip to Villa.

Everton Defence
Perhaps last night’s result wasn’t quite as shocking as the media suggest. Everton closed out last season with six clean sheets in their last eight at Goodison and their defensive resilience was at the fore once again last night with an intelligent, well-drilled display ensuring they kicked off the season with a victory. Tony Hibbert and Sylvain Distin come in at 5.5 in FPL and if the Toffees maintain their superb form at the back in front of their supporters, the duo look decent value. With only two home matches in the next seven Gameweeks, though, many will overlook Moyes’ defenders, bearing in mind that Swansea and Spurs play at home five times over the same period.

David De Gea
The Spaniard produced a strong performance between the sticks to surely cement his place as United’s number one. Priced at 6.0 in FPL, De Gea certainly looks firmly in the driving seat ahead of Anders Lindegaard, with his 14.2% ownership on the rise on the back of last night’s heroics.

Shinji Kagawa
Handed the role in “the hole” behind Wayne Rooney with Danny Welbeck and Nani on the flanks, the summer signing looked a class apart but – in a similar story to that of Santi Cazorla on Saturday – failed to produce the points on his debut. What was noticeable is that Kagawa was handed 90 minutes – perhaps a sign of his manager’s faith, with Welbeck, Nani and Tom Cleverley the men to make way when Ferguson sent on the subs. At 8.5, he’s the lowest priced of United attacking midfielders and, with Antonio Valencia featuring at right-back last night, Kagawa looks a promising Fantasy prospect with (FUL, sot, WIG) to follow despite last night’s frustrating blank.

Robin Van Persie
Handed a substitute role midway through the second-half after Ferguson chose to field Wayne Rooney as a lone striker, the Dutchman had an anonymous debut. The Fantasy conundrum between the pair was, if anything, exacerbated by last night’s viewing – United maintained the 4-2-3-1 formation upon Van Persie’s arrival, with the two forwards both taking it in turns to drop deeper and drift out wide as the visitors chased the game. Intriguingly, Van Persie was immediately handed corners from the right hand side – Nani retained the left side, though Rooney took over after the Portuguese man was withdrawn. With the above-mentioned three games to follow, many will still be ready to gamble ahead of the weekend – let’s hope Ferguson’s Friday morning press conference is a little more revealing than usual. Post-match, the United boss was a little critical of his other players, suggesting he expects better service for the Dutchman in order for United to prosper:

We were a wee bit disappointing in terms of finishing off the approach play we had. We played around him (Van Persie) too much, we didn’t show enough penetration. With Robin in your team you know you want to use his ability against centre-backs in situations he is very good at – but we didn’t use him enough.

Bandwagon's at this stage of season make me laugh. I remember when dzeko scored 4 against spurs early and everyone though he was the best thing since sliced bread. Need 3/4 weeks at least in my opinion to see how the land lies. Hoping my team picks up next week as this week has been shambolic!

I got Terry as my expensive defender ready for a Baines move....it'll happen in the next couple of weeks I'm sure of it. Penalty taking defender, who assists and with now added clean sheets is too good to pass up.

Last year his problem was not only his price tag but Everton not keeping clean sheets regularly.

Clean sheets are still the bread and butter of a defender.

when you can get an EVE defender for 1.5m less I just can't see how Baines can justify the extra cash. He'd need to score maybe 40+ more points over the season to be worth the extra expenditure and I find that pretty unlikely.

    Begovic, Jaaskalinen
    Kaboul, Williams, McCartney, Barnett, Hangeland
    Valencia, Guthrie, Ramires, Hazard, Sessegnon
    Aguero, Torres, Graham

As others suggested, Tevez and Bale would be good long term additions, also need to upgrade Barnett, maybe Kompany, Lescott, or Zabalata. However, your biggest problem is the three Chelsea players with no match in GW3. I would not take a hit now, in fact with Aguero possibly back Sept 1, I would sit tight and save my transfer to move 2 Chelsea players after GW2. (Isn't Guthrie in that boat too - Reading?)

He's definitely tempting. Reasons I'm leaning away from him (probably to Rooney):

      - Spurs will likely get a striker soon which will limit his playing time

      - Already have Bale who I'm backing to get bigger point hauls

      - Never going to be happy to captain Defoe

Plan was Aguero to Tevez this week and Torres to RVP next week.

Not sure I would do a hit for Tevex this week with Liverpool around the corner, they're going to want to bounce back after West Brom.....I don't think Tevez will meke up the -4 this week......I could be wrong though...

I am in the same situation (have swapped Mata for Michu, and I have Kun).

Probably will play 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 for this week and then transfer out Kun (if injured long term) in GW3

A -4 hit means the replacement player needs to score at least a goal to break even

My original plan was Torres > Rooney for GW2 and then shift Ramires before GW3 but I have Aguero and I'm not confident with his injury. The knee is always at least a few weeks out.

If it's a bad one, is it worth shifting Aguero for RvP and then bench either Torres or Ramires for GW3 (expensive substitutes I know) but I feel the need for United attack now with their next 3 fixtures. I have 2m in the bank.

Thoughts? Anyone else stuck in a similar situation?

This might sound silly but im considering using my transfer to swap
    t
Torres to Graham , rather thatn Torres to Rooney.

    Reasons are

    1) by holding off on getting a united player there is more time to assess which one to get
    2) price saving will give more flexibility for next weeks trasfer
    3) Although Graham didnt score last week he still a very good choice due to fixtures

    sound plan?

yes i like it more and more.
For example next week i might need to sell defoe , i could then replace with van persie
or i might ned tio sell nzogbia who i could replace with anyone

In the meantime i think this week Graham has as much point scoring potential as either Vn Persie or Rooney

Could pay off but are Swans fixtures THAT good? Beyond West Ham their home fix are SUN, EVE with tricky away games at Villa and Stoke. I know they did look very good v QPR but well, the R's were appalling

Here's what's going to happen though.
Torres will probably score, so will Rooney.
You will regret not having either of them
      You will regret selling Torres
You will regret selling Torres and not getting Rooney instead

Dont know why people are against bandwagons. If they play well and get points then there's a good chance they can do the same the next week. There is nothing certain in this game so why not go with someone with good fixtures in form? and if all else fail you can still make a bit of money on them.....

Some bandwagons are worth it, some are not.

Considering the fixtures and price rises to come, Michu is a sound investment especially for those with no Swans attackers.
