The flag stayed down to allow Fernando Torres to deliver on a night that saw Hazard sparkle again. Brave Reading went home with nothing but put up a fight as their budget options confirmed their potential. Let’s check the stock…

On the Up

Eden Hazard
Five assists marks a remarkable start to Hazard’s Fantasy season and already confirms him as a major Fantasy asset. He’s mesmerising skill and pace, combined with the freedom to join the attack from all areas, has thrust Hazard to the top of our midfield shopping list – once the Gameweek 3 blank has passed of course.

Frank Lampard
Lampard may well rely on spot-kicks for returns but with Hazard in the side, he looks set to get plenty of them. The Belgian’s tricky feet are drawing fouls, seemingly handing Chelsea deadballs and penalties aplenty.

Fernando Torres
Torres left it late but he eventually delivered on the captaincy with a goal that just about justified the faith shown in him. We will still look to Hazard and wonder what might have been, while Robin Van Persie still looks ridiculously tempting for those with the funds to wave goodbye to El Nino for the weekend. It’s still a big decision for those with cracks elsewhere and with bandwagons rolling.

Pavel Pogrebnyak
The Russian delivered on his budget promise with a superb glancing header to bring Reading on terms. Pogrebnyak looks destined to lead the line home and away for the Royals and, as we’ve stressed all through the pre-season, offers a superb third striker option for those looking to reserve funds.

Danny Guthrie
Talking of budget options, Reading look to have a mix of them. The widemen Jobi McAnuff and Gareth McClearly put in strong displays again but it will be Guthrie, playing up in support of the lone striker and at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, that will rouse interest.

Going Down

Petr Cech
A calamitous error for Reading’s second goal drew visible frustration from manager Roberto Di Matteo and will give cause concern for those holding Chelsea defenders. We’ve seen his confidence waver in previous seasons. Worrying.

Juan Mata
While Hazard, Lampard and Torres delivered returns, Mata was the odd one out, offering two blanks over the double Gameweek. We know that Di Matteo is planning a rest for the playmaker, while it’s doubtful that this will start early against Newcastle, it’s not out of the question given the jaded performances so far.

Adam Le Fondre
Brian McDermot started tonight’s game in a 4-5-1, pushing Guthrie up to support Pogrebnyak. Le Fondre dropped to the bench then and will presumably be at risk when Reading are on the road.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

De Telegraaf is saying this morning that van der Vaart will "almost certainly" return to Hamburger SV in this transfer window:

    http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/voetbal/buitenlands/12811947/__Transfer_V_d_Vaart_in_de_maak__.html
Aside from an absence of evidence for this, I can't see why on earth he'd choose to return: thanks to Frank Arnesen, HSV have their weakest squad ever and could easily get relegated from the Bundesliga this season having been an ever-present since 1963. They were even turfed out of the first round of the German Cup by third-division Karlsruher SC last weekend.

Furthermore, to finance the deal, the Hamburg club would have to be reliant on the external finance of their billionaire supporter Klaus-Michael Kühne who would have to stump up €10 million of the €15 million transfer fee, as well as paying most of VdV's wages. Although not an official of the club, Kühne had demanded that the transfer went ahead, and HSV are unwilling to let him increase his influence over club affaits.

For his part, van der Vaart has already said "no" to HSV once this summer, but Frank Arnesen and Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink are gambling that van der Vaart's omission from the Spurs first team against Newcastle on Saturday might make him think again.

Of course, Siggy coming to the club hasn't really helped, but with VDV's fitness levels, there is room for both.

unless you submitted an application/registration earlier in the month (and i dont remember seeing one from you) then you've missed out. but lucky for you the season is 19gw and we will be having a second season for gw 20-38 with 18 open spots (3 teams per league relegated x 6 leagues) so stay tuned and make sure to get an application in when we announce it!

have you seen our new site by the way? some quality articles and writeups by members of the community such as isacki, doos, lightknight, etc.

oh nice, so you're in doos and ginkapo's leagues? i'm in the 4th league "Victor Horta, Hotel Tassel" and I think I won but I don't remember against who or what the score was haha

thanks. that was our goal! I really love the best of the community section as it allows community members to write posts and share their analysis and it provides more information and resources for the rest of us. if you ever wanna write an article, let us know (use the contact us link towards the top of the page) or tell one of us on here

Happy with the score in the end but one of my main rivals got ahead in the league with 4 goals and 1 assist from yesterdays match (Cole, Lamps, Guthrie, Pog, Torres)!!!

Now on Mata, 5pts is not a terrible return for 9.5m - although clearly disappointing in a DGW. Did his job and now he is on the way out.

Next, get rid of Reading and most Chelsea players.. Federici is shit, so I guess no point having him after this gw. Transferring goalkeepers seems stupid though. I could play DDG every gw from now on and change Fed with wc later. Or go Lamps->Kagawa?

Playing my wildcard...and have been endlessly tweaking. My current line-up is somewhat non-conventional and with emphasis on the next few months.

Why? I just don't think the high-priced strikers are worth it, certainly not yet, and some of the high-priced midfielders I do like (e.g. Cazorla) may not pay off until later on. If I can delay those pickups and instead time good fixtures and good value picks, I may be able to get ahead:

    Vorm Begovic
    Ivanovic Baines Zabaleta Kaboul Demel
    Bale Kagawa Michu McClean Pienaar
    Tevez Ba Graham

Yes, the defense is loaded (waaay more than what's typical), but I don't want to drop Ivan or Zaba and really want Baines. Thoughts?

if you are going for a loaded defense either play 343 and get 3 really strong defenders you play all the time and two 4.0 guys to serve as bench fodder or get 4 or 5 strong defenders but then you ahve to play 4 or 5 in the back every week or its not worth it

    Friedel - (Federici)
    Zabaleta - Terry - Fonte - (Clark - Tierney)
    Noble - Michu - Lampard - Bale - (Guthrie)
    Tevez - Torres - Bent

    Bank: £2.5m
FT: Used on Aguero âž¡ Tevez

Reckon I should take a hit for GW3? Never expected Aguero to go on a 2-week sideline due to injury.

If Fergie wants to get the best out of RVP for the next 4 years, he is going to have to give him regular breaks. Unlike Arsenal, Man Utd have the squad to allow him to do that. His 13m price is based on him starting pretty much every game. Will he do that this season?

Not every other game. He will play plenty for sure. But Man Utds back up strikers should be more than enough to see off the teams at the bottom of the league. Arsenal only had Chamakh to come in! There is really no reason to flog him to death by playing him every game. Ferguson will get a lot more out of his big signing, if he is fresh.

It's not about past injuries. its about keeping your best players as fresh as possible for the big matches.

If your only back up is chamack, then you have to play RVP every game

If you have wellbeck, hernandez, plus loads of attacking midfielders if you want to play just rooney up top, then I think it would be stupid to play him every game. Of course he would be on the bench, to come on if needed.

Note that the above refers to rooney as well, not just RVP

China, must i note that there will be very little "easy games" this year as Reading and Southampton proved their first fixtures. Putting up battles vs. City and Chelsea respectively show they've got what it takes to compete.

This is true. Which is why you keep the rested player on the bench in case it goes wrong. As the season goes on, there are always a few teams who become "easy games".

I for one, will be staying clear of them for now. Logic says that they won't score as many points as they did last season when they were both the main man ie they won't be worth the price

If one of them proves me wrong (ie scores at a higher ppg then last season), then I have no problem taking a hit to get him in.

Also, I will no doubt have them in when one or the other is injured.

30 points behind already....struggling to decide on # priority:

Mata > Hazard (kind of a waste, but price rises & a 'must-have')
    Torres > RVP/Roon/Ade
Ivan> ANother defender since GW 3 looks cack in my defence

    DDG/Fed
    Ivan/Zaba/Turner/Clyne/Fabio
    Bale/Mata/Guthrie/Taraabt/McClean
    Tevez/Torres/Graham

    Thoughts much appreciated 🙂

        Torres out IMO.

Early days on the others. RVPs pedigree means he will again be the Forward to have.

I heard he's been training with his national team through the summer so he's probably match fit, just not yet indoctrinated into the AVB way

I am currently researching this, but he probably trained alone at City and reports from real from 2 years back suggest that he is a very fit person in genereal and able to get match fit very fast. But I agree that him starting this gameweek seems like wishful thinking. But having Torres on my teams just makes me want to cry.

    Team this week:

    Migs
    Ivan, Zaba, Turner/Demel
    Ramires, Dyer, N'Zog, Bale
    Torres, Tevez, RVP
    ... (Fed; Turner/Demel, Hughes, Marveaux)

    A couple of options:
1- take a hit: Turner to Clyne and Ramires to HBA with extra 0.5
2- just do Ramires to Pienaar, Michu, AJohnson if he moves

    Cheers lads 🙂

I see Vdv's price is also going to drop before deadline or soon after that so here's a tought.

If he doesn't start next game, would it be mad to swap him out instead of Lampard - all this because of team value.
It would mean I have to play cuellar/hughes instead of Vdv in gw3.
