Eden Hazard is the main provider for Chelsea in a thrilling 4-2 win over Reading. Penalty duties bring Frank Lampard another respectable Fantasy score, Branislav Ivanovic notches in back-to back matches, while even Fernando Torres gets amongst the goals – sweet relief for a huge number of armband owners.

Eden Hazard
The Belgian continued in the same vein as Sunday’s game at Wigan and has wasted no time in announcing himself to Fantasy managers as a strong source of points amongst the Chelsea midfield conundrum. Having supplied assists for three Chelsea goals in last night’s narrow victory over Reading, Hazard now has five to his name already in a superb start to life at Stamford Bridge. Neck and neck for ownership with Juan Mata leading into Gameweek 1, Hazard’s more direct role for the Blues looks set to see him rocket in ownership despite a blank Gameweek 3 – the Spaniard, on the other hand, still seems lethargic from a lack of a summer break; the upcoming international break will be crucial to his chances of returning to the Fantasy force we were accustomed to last season.

Fernando Torres
Finally, he produced. It was just a single goal but the overwhelming armband favourite gave us something to smile about with a tap-in to put Chelsea 3-2 ahead. With Frank Lampard once again benefitting from spot-kick duties and Hazard dazzling as part of the attacking midfield three, Torres could struggle to keep his place in many a team – with the blank Gameweek 3 to follow, his home clash against Newcastle this weekend could be his final game for plenty of Fantasy teams as we begin to reassess our frontline options.

Branislav Ivanovic
Notching for the second successive match, the Serbian is now just one goal off equalling last term’s tally after slotting home the fourth last night. Like Hazard, his displays over the two games have earned Ivanovic a price rise prior to the game against Newcastle but with Chelsea still heavily expected to bring another right-back to the club, question marks are still against his long-term prospects. If the Blues fail to bring in someone else for his position, though, Ivanovic’s 6.6 price tag is unlikely to deter many.

Pavel Pogrebnyak
The Russian made his way into 17% of Fantasy teams ahead of the double Gameweek and, despite a change of tactics from Brian McDermott, Pogrebnyak kept his place in the side as Reading moved to 4-5-1; perhaps a sign of McDermott’s formation for away matches. His Premier League record of a goal every two games continued last night; Pogrebnyak had previously scored six in 12 for Fulham and a towering header at the Bridge suggests he could be a very handy cut-price third striker in FPL, at just 5.0.

I like RVP for the season (Berbatov was pretty ridiculous 2 years ago playing as the furthest forward and Van Persie is better and more likely to play every week) but I've heard rumblings that he may not start this week. So for this week I would say Rooney.

It has to be a hit. I don't like my forwards. Podolski didn't look too good and he didn't play 90mins. Torres is Torres.
plan is - Pod to Graham & Torres to either RVP or Roo

Im thinking about passing on him as I have Graham, just feels too much like points chasing. So many times last year there were mid priced options that exploded one week and stayed quiet for weeks after.

In saying that though he produced all last year, so he is just PL unproven. Seems the obvious replacement for Mata, but thinking about Kagawa as I have no Man U attackers

I have Graham too, and I think your logic is correct re: points chasing.
The problem is Michu is well placed in the squad to take over from Siggy's role of last year. One week is not enough to judge, but Michu could continue to score well with Swansea's easy fixtures coming up.

I have Graham but still jumped on the Michy bandwagon...great fixtures and scored a load last year. prices just a lot early in the year while everyone is still playing the game so I think its important to get on bandwagons earlier more so than later.

Those few .1s can make a big difference early on to allow you better options....

Also I think the main point of the start of the game is to just stay with the pack....differentials are for later in the game. Bandwagons all the way....

    Realistic candidates are:

I'm considering Torres -> RVP for no hit, but am waiting to hear if any news comes out from Utd on RVP starting the match.

I'm also slightly worried that RVP (C), even if he did start, would only play 65 mins or something, given he is not yet fully 'up to speed'.

May well just end up saving my transfer and giving the (C) to Bale, Lampard or Graham.

Just putting up my team selection for the weekend while it's a bit quiet.

Would appreciate some thoughts on subs etc. as I could go a lot of different ways in this.

Currently have it set up as a 4-3-3 and have no transfers remaining.

    Ruddy (QPR)
Zabaleta (liv), Vertonghen (WBA), Rafael (FUL), Clyne (WIG)
Bale (WBA), Santi Cazorla (sto), Michu (WHM)
Tevez (liv), Torres (NEW), Podolski (sto)

Bench: Begovic (ARS) // Miyaichi (sou), Gorkss (sun), Kacaniklic (mun)

I know Vertonghen and Rafael didn't get starts during their last games, but if they do this week I want them in my squad. Reason for playing 4 at the back otherwise is I think they all offer good shouts for CS - perhaps Zabaleta the least of which but he looked really good going forward and you always play City regardless, right? I think even Gorkss at Sunderland has a good chance of bringing in points with Sunderlands recent goalscoring record, but that's the one I'm least confident in.

Captain I'm currently stuck between Tevez and Bale, with an outside shot of Michu (though I almost certainly won't go with him).

      Hi Casterly

I'm also thinking of playing 4-3-3 with Zabaleta & Clyne and benching Maloney & Noble. I rather think Saints will be fired up on Saturday, although Wigan did play quite well after they conceded the early goals.
I'd probably go with Bale as captain.

Other than IvanWhoShallNotBeNamed I think Zabaleta and Clyne both looked to be among the best attacking defenders in the league, right?

Away at City and Clyne still looked strong running forward and as good as Wigan looked the other day they should offer him more chance at getting up there than City did.

I was tricked into NOR defender as well (Tierney), after last weeks' display I am in serious doubt. You might be better starting Bego?
I like your back line, but Rafael is a long term doubt , IMo.
I'd captain Bale, Liverpool look weak defensively ,but they won't allow themselves to be crushed at home , i think.

I didn't see the Norwich game other than MOTD so I can't really comment on how they looked defensively but after a 5-0 I have to assume that they'll set up ultra-defensively the next game to save face a bit.

Saying that, I thought they were going to start the season defensively to mark Lambert leaving and that didn't exactly turn out, so who knows? 😀

With vdv likely to fall during the next update and unsure of playing time, is it worth to take a hit to remove him?
Who would be the best replacement for him and do we think that siggy’s price will also drop in the coming few days?

    Thanks.

Siggy wont drop vdv may (50/50). Can't recommend a hit this early in the season unless you are struggling to get 11 players out

I think Maloney (Wigan - who play Southampton) and Snodgrass (Norwich - who play QPR) are worth a

closer look for GW2. Both are heavily involved in set piece taking and both teams will be looking to

attack and gain points lost from their opening day defeats.

    Any thoughts ?

Difficult one to answer. As a Villa fan I would say you may be waiting all season. However, his debut last year was excellent until he got crushed by our dull style of play. Promising signs for Villa, BUT I think your fantasy pennies could be more safely invested outside of Villa Park, sorry.

Didnt want to make a trannie this week, but Aguero injury has forced my hand into the money grubbing market and I did an Aguero-> Tevez tranny early. Now I will be force to take a hit next week and am wondering if taking an early hit may make sense. I wanted to keep Lamps on for Newcastle as I always believed that with Hazard in the side, Lamps would score many PKs this season. But seeing the fatigue factor, I am doubting that Lamps or even Hazard may start this game - One of them will surely get some rest. Regardless of who it is, I dont think that will bear well for Lamps. Considering taking the early hit of Kagawa for Lamps as it will give me some ManU coverage and open up my freebie next week for Torres->Ade. Thoughts?

He also may not as 3 games in 6 days is no easy task and he looked very fatigued at end of game. Either way, I think Lamps may get the rest.

      DeGea Henderson
      Cuellar Gallas Hughes Demel Clyne
      Bale Sigurdson Kagawa Michu McLean
      Graham RvP Tevez

Would look to switch Siggy -> Hazard and Graham - > Petric after a few weeks.

      What do you think?

Bales biggest frustration for me in past seasons was his points totals vs weaker teams at home. He always seemed to shine on weeks when I didnt want to put the armband on him. Kagawa is just plain unproven - so if you cant afford to get it wrong, go with a forward thats odds on favorite to score.

Good point - running low on other options this week. As it stands i still have Mata in my squad but will most likely be replacing him for Kagawa this week. Ya - Ya toure seems to be playing deeper this season so can't see him causing too many attacking problems for Liverpool. Suarez and Graham up front this week ?
