Eden Hazard is the main provider for Chelsea in a thrilling 4-2 win over Reading. Penalty duties bring Frank Lampard another respectable Fantasy score, Branislav Ivanovic notches in back-to back matches, while even Fernando Torres gets amongst the goals – sweet relief for a huge number of armband owners.

Eden Hazard
The Belgian continued in the same vein as Sunday’s game at Wigan and has wasted no time in announcing himself to Fantasy managers as a strong source of points amongst the Chelsea midfield conundrum. Having supplied assists for three Chelsea goals in last night’s narrow victory over Reading, Hazard now has five to his name already in a superb start to life at Stamford Bridge. Neck and neck for ownership with Juan Mata leading into Gameweek 1, Hazard’s more direct role for the Blues looks set to see him rocket in ownership despite a blank Gameweek 3 – the Spaniard, on the other hand, still seems lethargic from a lack of a summer break; the upcoming international break will be crucial to his chances of returning to the Fantasy force we were accustomed to last season.

Fernando Torres
Finally, he produced. It was just a single goal but the overwhelming armband favourite gave us something to smile about with a tap-in to put Chelsea 3-2 ahead. With Frank Lampard once again benefitting from spot-kick duties and Hazard dazzling as part of the attacking midfield three, Torres could struggle to keep his place in many a team – with the blank Gameweek 3 to follow, his home clash against Newcastle this weekend could be his final game for plenty of Fantasy teams as we begin to reassess our frontline options.

Branislav Ivanovic
Notching for the second successive match, the Serbian is now just one goal off equalling last term’s tally after slotting home the fourth last night. Like Hazard, his displays over the two games have earned Ivanovic a price rise prior to the game against Newcastle but with Chelsea still heavily expected to bring another right-back to the club, question marks are still against his long-term prospects. If the Blues fail to bring in someone else for his position, though, Ivanovic’s 6.6 price tag is unlikely to deter many.

Pavel Pogrebnyak
The Russian made his way into 17% of Fantasy teams ahead of the double Gameweek and, despite a change of tactics from Brian McDermott, Pogrebnyak kept his place in the side as Reading moved to 4-5-1; perhaps a sign of McDermott’s formation for away matches. His Premier League record of a goal every two games continued last night; Pogrebnyak had previously scored six in 12 for Fulham and a towering header at the Bridge suggests he could be a very handy cut-price third striker in FPL, at just 5.0.

      I'm going with Kagawa, (from admittedly limited evidence) it looks like they will be playing a front 3 with Kagawa sitting behind. So if you expect Rooney and RVP to take up 2 of the spots Valencia/Nani/Young will be competing for the other one.

      Just go Kagawa, he was the most involved and attacking of the midfielders against Everton. Nani is a bargain too if he can get used to his new wide forward role (and if he can keep the position).

      Some good analysis of United new formation and how everyone fits in to it here: http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/08/21/ferguson-showcases-a-4-2-1-3-against-everton/

        This is the formation I've been hoping he will go with. However, problems:

        1. How to accommodate RVP and what that does to Kagawa
        2. Nani/Young/Tony V competing for one place
        3. Keeping Welbeck and Hernandez sweet

        Adds up to rotation

          Exactly why I used my transfer elsewhere this week and still have Torres+3m.

          I'm waiting until we know more about how each player will be positioned and rotated until I spend that kind of money but if someone wanted to get attacking United coverage *right now* before the next GW deadline then I'd say Kagawa looks the best value pick so far, but any one of them is a risk at this point.

    Planning the following transfers over next few game weeks:

    Torres->Tevez
    Ramires->McClean
    Toure->Hazard
    Hangeland->Jenkinson

    Have Bale and I’d like to have Ade but then I wouldn't have City attacking coverage

      It is unclear whether AVB's football philosophy will be good for Adebayor, who tends to benefit from fairly direct play. He may end up playing with his back to goal for the most part under AVB which could limit his scoring.

    Sorry for this generic question, but had an awful GW. Left 3.0 in the bank.

    A. Ramires>McClean (don't want Michu as I have Graham)
    B. Torres > RVP (c)

    Would you do both or just one of them. A seems to be more pressing, but B gives me a better captain option in GW2.

    The captaincy decision is tricky this week isn't it. This could be a week where a risky captaincy pick is ok because it doesn't seem as likely as normal that the obvious/safe picks will explode.

    Looking at the stats in the members area, Bale didn't look particularly creative last week and West Brom seem defensively solid. Rooney supposedly looked out of sorts, too soon for RVP and Kagawa in my opinion.

    Graham (Michu if you must) is a definite option at home to whm. Maybe a Chelsea player again. But what about Cazorla away at Stoke. He had so many touches in the final third, on free kicks and corners, loads of chances created. I read something about Stoke having a fortress at home being a complete myth. Surely Cazorla has a great chance of producing something.

      The Stoke the thing is certainly true from last year , I put it as if they open up at home more than away , I think their fans are a passionate bunch and maybe that gets into the players mind more to take more chances ...some may say they don't have the technical ability to back that up hence high goalscoring games .

      Yeah, i agree with what you're saying. I can't see any player getting a huge total of points...surely clubs with no points are going to be eager to ensure they get points by playing safely.
      If i was to go anywhere with a captain choice, I'd probably go for Bale, however, I don't have him....probably will have to go for Hazard, hoping he gets some return

    Bit annoyed at myself I had a 50/50 of transferring out Mata/Guthrie for Michu (earlier this week).
    I choose Mata because SURELY he will get some assist/bonus at least v reading.
    Now Hazard is gone up .1 Mata will probably fall .1 at least.
    So I could be faced with a .4/.6 price difference by gw4 !
    Yeah I know I could of taken a hit to get Hazard in instead of Mata...but it did not seem like a logical choice.
    Mini grumpy crouch over.

    Maybe I should keep Mata all season after all I love trash...

    Had a reasonable first gameweek, with the pain of having to watch ramires stumble to a single point with michu sitting on my bench fresh in my mind, am looking at making a double switch for gameweek 2, and wondered your views:

    Rio Ferdinand and Ashley young out, bale and Figueroa (or any other 4.5m defender who will be handy for the next 2 weeks if any suggestions?) in. Leaves 0.5 mil in the bank to switch ramires and Torres for RVP and a 4.5m midfielder (possibly kacaniklic) next week.

    This leaves no united cover at present but I'm fairly happy to adopt a wait and see approach for this week.

    Captain, I'm thinking bale?

    My 11 would be

    Friedel

    Clichy Figueroa a.ferdinand/McCartney

    Nasri bale michu hazard

    Torres Tevez graham

    Would be very grateful for views 🙂

    Looking for some feedback on current team:

    Jaaskelainen/Begovic

    Ferdinand Gorkss Clyne Demel Jenkinson

    Mata Silva VdV Cazorla Marveaux

    Aguero Torres Pogbrenyak

    Have not used my transfer yet, thinking it's a little early to WC but I can't afford to lost anymore ground already to rivals with my current team either subs or injured (25 points behind in league) so was thinking take a 4 point hit but who for and who to ship out??

    I've got Aguero, 3 Chelsea (Lamps/Torres/Invanovic) and 1 Reading (Harte)

    Who should I get rid of this week and next week bearing in mind Chelsea and Reading's blank in GW3?

    Don't know why someone posted an unsourced Nuri Sahin to Liverpool story on the previous page - he's just passed his medical at Arsenal ahead of a one-year loan deal.

      Any word on whether there is an option to buy?

      Also what do you think of the VDV > Hamburg rumours?

        I posted something earlier about van der Vaart - only De Telegraaf is saying that the move is "as good as certain", German sources are focusing on Hamburger SV's desperate attempts to raise the money.

        No indication as to what either Spurs or van der Vaart himself are intending. I think he'd be mad to join a poor team who will be involved in a relegation dogfight in the Bundesliga all season.

    Pienaar to Kagawa for this week a good call?
    Currently only have Vidic for United. Not touching Rooney or RVP.
