We may have suffered inauspicious starts to the season but there’s no denying it, we just love Fantasy Football.

For all his grumpiness and bile, Granville’s enthusiasm spills over as we both dive into the hot topics of the week: Juan Mata’s decline, Eden Hazard’s rise, the Rooney vs Van Persie question, whether Granville is the dopey one.

All these issues and more are addressed in the next 38-minutes, along with the return of All Aboard, the weekend preview and the first decisions to be made with the ailing ScoutCast XI. It’s my turn to play Pat Rice to Granville’s Arsene Wenger this week and, to script, I prove to be more of a hindrance than a help.

Indulge in the lovefest via this link or, alternatively, get streaming using the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sooo, gonna be a tough next gameweek for me... Capt options

    A) Torres
    B) Tevez
    C) Graham
    D) Bale (4pts hit)
    E) Michu

Right now I think I'll go with Torres. Most probable to score + most game goals according to bookies. Can't make myself do it.

    General opinion wanted:

Is Mata > Ben Arfa worth -4?

In terms of raw FPL points it isn't. But Ben Arfa will rise and Mata will fall, so a .2 swing in price. Thoughts?

In terms of raw FPL points it could well be in fact. Ben Arfa is an absolute monster goalscoring mid and the Chelsea defence looked weak against Reading. Barfa could be this year's Sessegnon.

Starting on -4 though, He will need to score 6+ just to break even on Mata. And that is assuming Mata doesn't pick up additional points.

Mata looks well out of contention compared to Hazard and Ramires/Oscar for assists and even less likely for goals.

One Barfa assist could get you break even with BPs. One Barfa goal should be significant profit. Plus there is the 0.2 rise which is worth points ultimately.

Assuming you want 2000 points from a budget of 100, each 0.1 is worth 2 points, so that's a potential 4 points gained.

People seemed to be getting away with Mata's presumed lack of potential, maybe because Mark and Granny slammed his performance in the podcast.

He still had shots (and came close!), and he assisted an assist. He could easily return points at the weekend IMO

I've done the analysis to death before the podcast and written about it too. It comes out in the compare tool - his position has shifted back considerably from the tail end of last season onwards. He's playing no further forward than Modric was last season. I saw the shots against Reading live, there were plenty of Chelsea players ahead of him, they were more hopeful potshots.

The Mata we are dealing with now is not the same Mata we saw last season. Take it or leave it...

Hmm, I'm not entirely convinced. He still seemed to get a few shots on and on another day would have scored. The .2 is swinging it for me though .. last year I just went with the points and the players I wanted at the beginning of the season, and lost out in value stakes. Towards the end of the season, when I had a team value of around 103 and the others in my league were playing with 106-110 it made a massive difference.

Being that poor has left me never wanting to poor again 😛 So I am swaying towards taking the cash and running

Yeah I finished around 109 or something, but even then always felt a little short of cash. I'd be tempted to go Barfa myself but feel it's more urgent for me to get Michu as I don't have him yet - should get two more rises out of him including tonight and Saturday's roll over.

It's quite a bit of overanalysing when you are basing your analysis on two games and comparing them to a whole season. Have you taken into consideration the manager swap last season? Have you taken into consideration the position swap last season? What about how the games developed? Chelsea were in control early on. Did Mata drop deeper to keep control of the game? Did Mata drop deeper because Chelsea generally droped deeper? Was Hazard playing more advanced than Mata because he's a quicker player, who's more likely to be devastating on a break through? Is this necesarily making Mata a worse fantasy option than last year, or is it just natural low?

Yes, it happened long after the manager swap. The position swap is the very point here. The data from last season is limited so looked at the last 6 GWs of last season too. You've answered your own question there regarding Hazard. There's no certainties, but you have to make all fantasy decisions on varying degrees of uncertainty and I think this is on the low side.

Not the trade but saying you'll benefit in raw FPL pts. Mata at home will average what? 3-4? Ben Arfa averaging 7-8 away to Chelsea... No way.

Cheers. Yeah it's well frustrating, basically it's RVP vs a whole bunch of midfielders I want.

Seen another way though maybe it's better I get in RVP than Rooney because if, as seems increasingly the case, Rooney plays second fiddle to RVP, I will waste another transfer on selling Rooney.

You won't be able to show your face if Michu returns 2 or 3. Blatently stinks of GW1 points chasing. I'd captain Hazard, personally... can't see how he can play 90 mins and not create something.

Spurs could do well, but we haven't seen anything yet under AVB. This isn't the Spurs of last year.

Nice team although I don't like your goalkeepers, but with a front 8 like that you can get away with it. I would also keep an eye on Rooney, I don't think he will be fpl gold this season

I don't have Yaya, but the away fixture at Liverpool and Aguero's injury is excellent news for Yaya owners. I can see the 4-2-3-1 returning with Rodwell and one other sitting behind Yaya in the hole.

Wouldn't be a ridiculous captain option.

Nope, not away at Liverpool. Mancini has always shown the utmost respect when playing the 'big' teams away from the Etihad. Yes, you can argue Liverpool aren't big anymore, but the club and their fans are and he'll prefer to keep it tight in the first half. All imo, of course.

Rodwell was quit bad last game, right? And Barry has just recently been injured, right? I think it's more likely that he will use De Jong + Toure if he respects Liverpool that much. Any other combination would simply make the team way worse than playing Balotelli or Dzeko.

Any Evertonians out there....Is jelly going to play at the weekend, some sites dont have him listed as injured, some say he has a knock with no return date listed?

If Jellys a serios doubt I'm thinking of swapping him for Ade - whats the general consensus will Ade or defoe start for spurs?

Defoe because likely to play with Ade not match fit. He's in form with a goal in each of his last two matches (including England game) and will have a point to prove that he should not be left out because of Ade.

Tough game on Saturday (hopefully!) and a blank the next GW.

Combine that with good fixtures for alternatives (Man U, Spurs etc.)

Most are getting rid of their Chelsea players, especially mids/forwards.

I guess Hazard is just electric at the moment and is getting loads of points and also looking like on another day he could get a whole bunch more too...... Agree re Mata's performace, I thought he did ok too but I suspect the majotiy of Matas decline in ownership is people swapping him out for Hazzard rather than doubling up on chelsea midfield.

I feel a bit stupid now but I (admittedly without much thought) went for Giroud, I thought he'd be the main striker now RVP has gone. Surely he's got to start against Stoke after a 0-0 against Sunderland...Or should I get rid of him immediately? I feel a bit confused, they signed him to score the goals, why does he not start?

For those thinking on Rooney or possibly giving him the armband (myself included), here's some food for thought for United's game against Fulham:

    http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/match-facts-manchester-united-v-fulham-151919618.html

"Manchester United have won four and lost none of their last five Premier League games against Fulham, keeping clean sheets in all four victories.
Wayne Rooney has scored four goals in his last three Premier League games against Fulham.
Fulham have lost their last eight Premier League trips to Old Trafford and failed to score in the last five in a row."

I may have answered my "who to captain" question.

I seriously hate these 'previous' stats!! They are completely pointless!!! Different players, different managers, different form, different tactics.

Fulham's team is full of attacking midfielders... Duff, Dembele, Ruiz, Frei, Kacaniklic. United's team doesn't have one decent defensive midfielder. This has always been their strength in the past... the speed at which they win the ball back. United can't win the ball back early and to exasperate matters, they're missing their first choice back 4.

Fulham win, or 2-2, I reckon.

If SAF starts with RVP and Rooney up top I think they're asking for trouble. Shift Rooney wide left using his defensive abilities and interchanging with Kagawa in behind RVP and a 3-1 looks more likely.
