The penultimate match of the Gameweek sees Andre Villas-Boas chalk up his first league win as Tottenham manager with a comfortable cruise at the Madejski over Reading. Here’s the Sunday Stock Check…

On the Up

Jermain Defoe
Many had assumed he’d move to the bench this afternoon but Defoe started as the lone forward against the Royals, with Emmanuel Adebayor an unused sub. Having found the net twice, he looks difficult to drop – much to the consternation of Adebayor’s Fantasy owners.

Gareth Bale
Over 184,000 Fantasy Premier League managers had sold on the Welshman after a stuttering start to the campaign but Bale finally came good by bagging his side’s second. With QPR and Villa visiting the Lane in the next three, the suitors are set to come flooding back ahead of the weekend deadline.

The Tottenham Right Flank
The visitors’ pace down the right troubled Ian Harte at left-back for much of the match. Aaron Lennon and Kyle Walker plundered an assist apiece as the veteran was given a bit of a chasing.

Adam Le Fondre
Brought on at half-time as Brian McDermott changed from 4-4-1-1 to 4-4-2, the forward justified his manager’s decision with an assist for Hal Robson-Kanu’s late consolation. While the Reading boss may be eying up a lone striker system ahead of three road trips in the next four, Le Fondre has certainly given McDermott food for thought.

Going Down

Adam Federici
Despite shaking off a knock picked up on international duty, the Reading stopper dropped to the bench to be replaced by Alex McCarthy. With question marks over his game time, Federici is another keeper Fantasy managers will be keen to move on as we reassess our squads in light of the first four Gameweeks.

Clint Dempsey
Villas-Boas claimed both Sandro and Dempsey were jet-lagged before the match but, while the Brazilian was handed 90 minutes, Dempsey managed a brief 13 minute second-half sub appearance. Gylfi Sigurdsson still looks in the driving seat for the role in “the hole” right now, suggesting the US international could be set to lose further Fantasy owners.

Emmanuel Adebayor
A goal for Togo in the midweek internationals hinted at a return to form and fitness but it’s becoming clear that he’ll have to bide his time. Villas-Boas’ decision to stick with Brad Friedel over Hugo Lloris between the posts today was based on the latter’s form in the last game – if he applies the same logic next weekend, Adebayor looks set for another afternoon of bench-warming.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto
The left-back missed the Spurs win with a swollen knee. Reports quote Andre Villas-Boas stating that he may require surgery to clean out the knee which is being troubled by a bone fragment. We await more news but, should that be the case, Assou-Ekotto would apparently face up to a month out.

Play 2 from Hangeland (wig) Clyne (AVL) Rafael (liv) and Davies (EVE)

Hang is away but it;s to Wigan and Fulham got 6 away CS last year

Davies is at home, but Tate is playing

Rafa is away, but Pool can't score, but always raise their game when United visit

Saints can surely not be as poor again, and Villa not that great

    My other defender is Baines

Didn't realise you were an expert on Villa. We created so much against Swansea (and Newcastle) so we could easily score most games. Plus Southampton can't defend. I'd keep Clyne benched.

Well people judged them after two poor games which were Lambert's first in charge. It takes time, but as a pessimistic fan, if I say Villa look good then they really do 😉 I'd expect Villa to score. Rafael's goal threat and what looks like nailed on status is probably a better shout over Clyne. They seem to keep changing formation and haven't adjusted very well. No idea about Clyne's threat going forward but he seems to be a threat going backwards 😆

I just took a look in the members area and on FPl, you have scored in all but 1 game and have been getting into good positions, Saints have been abysmal recently. I think that Clyne benched Rafa. So it comes down the Brede at Wigan (Fulham will either keep a CS or lose 3-0) vs Davies (with Tate in there I don't fancy Swans for a CS, though I'd have him 2nd sub over Clyne) I'm looking to move Clyne out in a few weeks, probably for Bosingwa or Saylor

Toughie. He looked great when on, and he's a much better partner for Bent than Weimann. Plus PL bigging him up probably means he will start.

He did, but still seems off the pace a bit. Weimann is very good but I'd prefer him and Agbonlahor as impact subs; Agbonlahor if we need to stretch their defence or Weimann if we actually wanted a goal 😆

I started off with HBA/Lambert before deciding to upgrade my defence. I'd keep Cazorla tbh, he was unlucky yesterday. I still think he is the man to have. Besides, the Toon without their usual defence isn't quite the same team. I'd stick for the time being and use 2 transfers next week. Besides, the Everton fixtures are great: stick!

I definitely wanna stick with all the Everton players mate, was just thinking of geeting HBA->Cazorla for two weeks and then getting Santi back. I guess NUFC are not the same so it's probably best to keep Santi.

I have no idea why i'm playing Clyne, he's just there to look pretty on my bench with minus points, allowing me to applaud myself for benching him.

I'm gunna play Rafa, no way Suarez will score against us if Evra isn't playing. 😉

    Good evening people.

Should I wildcard this team? Keepers are not good, like to get rid of Pog, Dyer and Clyne.

    De Gea, Federici
    McAuley, Hangeland, Clyne, Nelsen, Cole
    Hazard, Michu, Pienaar, Yaya, Dyer
    Tevez, Pog, RVP

If not De Gea out Jussi in?

        Sorry that sounds wrong...
I mean formation is irrelevant as you can sub in and out depending on fixture and match day
So 5-5-3 and make sure you GKs play on different days

    Jussy (Ruddy)
    Lescott Cashley Williams
    Hazard (c) Pienaar Michu Nolan
    RVP (vc) Tevez Berb
    bench: Guthrie, Hang, Clyne

Already used my FT. 0.7m in the bank for Baines next week.
