Our Watchlist rankings were refreshed earlier this week, with the defensive solidity offered by West Ham reflected in our update. Up front, we hold firm with Robin Van Persie and Carlos Tevez, while a certain Bulgarian makes his way into the top three in the tussle for our Fantasy affections. You’ll find the updated rankings, in their usual location, in right sidebar…

Goalkeepers

Jussi Jaaskelainen climbs to the top of the pile after registering a third clean sheet in his opening four matches. The West Ham stopper is racking up the save points in FPL – the top scoring keeper thus far, his cut-price appeal has already seen his cost rise this week, with strong fixtures to follow. Ben Foster has also seen a price hike. With Fantasy managers shipping out David De Gea in their droves due to Sir Alex Ferguson’s rotation policy, Foster’s security of starts and guaranteed save points is proving popular – four favourable fixtures in the next six will likely see the Baggies man continue to pick up in ownership.

Michel Vorm drops down to third after a disappointing display at Villa last weekend. Swansea have now conceded twice in their last two and with Chico still suspended and Neil Taylor out for the season, suddenly Michael Laudrup’s side look a little less enticing at the back. Everton’s Tim Howard holds steady in fourth, despite conceding twice at Goodison on Monday evening – a kind fixture list offers the Toffees stopper plenty chance of points over the next couple of months.

Defenders

Unsurprisingly, Leighton Baines remains in pole position after grabbing the opener against Newcastle on Monday evening. With City and United mustering a single clean sheet between them this term, the Toffees left-back is looking the best bet for those Fantasy managers willing to spend big at the back, with his propensity for picking up FPL bonus points returning eight already – joint-top after four Gameweeks.

Gareth McAuley is another strong West Brom option. With Goran Popov rated “very doubtful” for this weekend’s visit of Reading, McAuley and Liam Ridgewell could be primed to pick up the points once again. The former, with a goal and assist accrued already, offers the greater goal threat of the Baggies pair at present.

West Ham’s Guy Demel climbs in our estimations after another clean sheet at Norwich last weekend. The right-back looks nailed-on for Sam Allardyce’s side and priced at 4.1 in FPL and 3.6 in the Sky Sports game, he’s proving to be a cut-price gem at the back so far.

Angel Rangel continues his slow slide down the rankings. As mentioned above, the Swansea backline has been hammered by injury and suspension and Michael Laudrup’s men have paid the price. The fixture list continues to look prosperous, though; with three home matches in the next four Gameweeks, Angel’s attacking right flank raids gets the nod over budget option Ben Davies.

Thomas Vermaelen remains our Arsenal defender of choice. The Belgian is facing stiff competition from Kieran Gibbs for our Fantasy affections after the left-back produced a pair of assists against Southampton – while Carl Jenkinson remains the budget option, the imminent return of Bacary Sagna will surely prove detrimental to his game time. With three clean sheets in four, the Gunners look far more stable since employing Steve Bould as defensive coach and Vermaelen’s eye for goal is always capable of producing.

Midfielders

Eden Hazard may have drawn a blank last time out at QPR, but the Chelsea new boy holds firm at the top of the midfielder rankings. The Belgian is afforded two strong home matches in the next three Gameweeks to return to goalscoring form, with Stoke and Norwich both rolling up to the Bridge, his potential for points is obvious.

Michu remains close on Hazard’s heels. While our faith in the Swansea backline has slightly diminished, the summer signing from Rayo Vallecano looks the safest attacking option ahead of (EVE, RDG, WIG) in the next four. With Danny Graham struggling for goals and new boy Pablo Hernandez handing Michael Laudrup a selection headache out wide, Michu will be crucial to his side’s chances of bouncing back from their surprise defeat at Villa last time round.

Santi Cazorla stays in third, despite a trip to City and home clash with Chelsea up next. The Arsenal playmaker has settled seamlessly into Arsene Wenger’s first XI and looks primed for Fantasy points – as Members can see, his potential for goals and assists is second to none, when assessing the midfield options.

Steven Pienaar justified his Scout Pick selection last week with a pair of assists against Newcastle. The South African has now overtaken Marouane Fellaini in FPL and with form, fixtures and a kind mid-price valuation across the Fantasy games, Pienaar’s upcoming schedule should ensure a continuation of his recent strong performances.

Gareth Bale makes his way back up the Watchlist rankings after opening his scoring account for the season in Spurs’ win at Reading on Sunday. Many had lost patience with the Welshman after a blank first three Gameweeks and sold him on but Bale served a reminder of his capabilities against the Royals and now has four home games and a trip to Southampton in the next six to plunder the attacking returns.

Below the top five we find the likes of James Morrison and Kevin Nolan holding firm with potentially prosperous fixtures to come. Antonio Valencia replaces Shinji Kagawa as our United midfield option for the time being, while Raheem Sterling enters our thinking as a budget option. Robert Snodgrass suffers from bad fixtures but remains a worthy differential in the low-to-mid price bracket.

Forwards

Robin Van Persie and Carlos Tevez remain at the top, despite rotation concerns over the Manchester duo. With Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero both nearing full fitness, the situation may be reassessed over the coming week or two but right now, our faith in the pair still remains strong.

Dimitar Berbatov leaps up the rankings after his eye-catching home debut for Fulham last weekend. Reunited with Martin Jol, the Bulgarian seems to have his swagger back and is the current front runner for that crucial third forward slot, with huge numbers of Fantasy managers already drafting him in this week.

A brace away to Reading saw Jermain Defoe continue his decent start to the season. in the short-term, at least, Defoe looks to be ahead of Emmanuel Adebayor in the Tottenham pecking order and with three goals and an assist in his first four, we’re backing him to maintain his form with a strong run of games on the horizon.

Southampton’s Rickie Lambert offers a cut-price option up top and has three home games in the next five to add to his couple of goals so far, Demba Ba’s brace at Everton is surely enough to earn him a first-team recall ahead of games against Norwich and Reading, while Lukas Podolski enjoys a climb and offers an alternative to Santi Cazorla amongst the Arsenal attack.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

just playing with things, if you go with a MF rotation of Sterling and Kac, 104mil goes a long way. In fact, its pretty impressive...

    Jaask/Bego
    Ivan, Gibbs, Baines, Demel, Clark
    Haz, Caz, Mitch, Sterling, Kac
    Berb, Trev, RVP

Neither Sterling or Kac are guaranteed starters though. They're both great value at the minute but you can't say for sure they'll play 90 mins each week. So having them both is going to cause you a real headache down the line.

    Morning lads,

So who are you captaining this week?

Tricky fixture list this week - usual suspects nots so obvious

    - Utd away to liverpool - RVP?
    - City at Home to Arsenal - Tevez?
    - Chealsea at home to Stoke - Hazard/Torres?

    Thoughts gents.....

Hazard or Ba for me. Tevez would be a risky punt and if you have RVP then you're probably going to go for him. I don't so it's between the two I mentioned. Have it on Ba at the moment.

It's funny but the "that's what most will do" idea is actually quite relevant as there is less risk if it fails. Sure, one of your other players might have scored a hat-trick and you missed out on captaining him but you still gain those points on others while sharing the disappointment of the 1st/2nd most popular captain. It's actually the fact that most are going to captain Hazard that is swaying me towards being conservative, whereas I'd prefer to captain Ba as a punt.

Current team is in slight disarray but not awful.

    Fed, Jaask
    Lescott Tierney Hangeland Boyce Cuellar
    Johnson Hazard Dyer Pienaar Guthrie
    RVP Torres Tevez

Already fallen up to 50 points behind in my mini leagues not been a good start. My main concerns are Federici, Tierney, Lescott and no Cazorla. Also would like to ditch Torres, maybe Tevez to Aguero as a differential, Hangeland potentially and worried about johnson not being fit for this weekend again if some reports are to be believed.

Kind of tempted to Wildcard can make a nice team but would rather save it.

Thinking maybe Lescott to McAuley this week then Torres and Johnson to Cazorla and Lambert next week for a hit?

My ideal team would look like

    Begovic, Jaask
    Demel Gibbs McAuley Cuellar Boyce
    Cazorla Hazard Pienaar Dyer Guthrie
    RVP Aguero Lambert.

Any advice? WC time or hold it? Am I heading in the right direction in terms of priorities?

Fed to Bego in a few weeks time
      Lescott- wait and see
Johnson- maybe get rid but would you wnat him back when fit?
Tierney- Dont know too much about him but guess hes always gonna be on the bench for you? Swap him later to a 4.0 who is playing but not a priority

      Cheers for the reassurance.

Defence is worrying me the most definately.

Johnson I'm not sure on, feel like he could come good but don't see a better way of getting in Cazorla and if hes out again this weekend its very annoying with one appearance in 3 games...

Ye I think Lescott to McAuley is unavoidable almost this week. I'll probably wait for more news on Johnson, if he doesn't look likely to make it might have to rejig a bit to try and make funds for Cazorla, maybe Demel instead of McAuley.

Sorry for the Repost, new page.

    Greetings fellow FPL Managers.

    FPL:

I’ve got McCartney and thought he was nailed on before getting injured. Do you guys think he’ll retake his spot or is he overdue?

    UCL:

This is my current squad and I’m last on my most important minileague:

    Malafeev, Beto
    Rafael, Vidal, Boateng, Uchida, Gibbs
    Hazard, Cazorla, KPB, Sammir, Bressan
    Messi, Ibra, Mandzukic

I thought of using WC on MD6 when half of teams are qualified and rotate heavy.
It will only be possible to see the lineups of tuesday’s matches on MD3 and MD6 for transfer help.
    Would you WC now?

Anyone else feeling like Wildcarding after GW7 if you haven't already? I think a lot will have changed by then and it might be worth it. My Team Value is pretty woeful too and it would allow me to get some rises. Feel a bit depressed looking ahead to the fixtures some of my team might have if I don't. I'm also without RVP at the minute which makes everything feel like you never have an obvious captain. But with Rooney back that could make even the RVP owners anxious.

Well that's good, we're neck and neck! I got rid of Giroud for Ba the other day so I'm happy with that transfer. Arsenal's next two are tough. 230 at this stage is a 57 point average...not bad!

I would say the average to win will be between 55-60 to win. It depends really how it all pans out. But if you can maintain between 50-60 you are going to finish very high. I got 48 last week which would have been disappointing but considering everyone else did so averagely it was ok!

Hmmm. Any trend as such every season in weeks where the average points dips like last week? I'm actually thinking of benching one of my big hitters( or reasonably big! ) and playing a def instead.

Interesting...Also the international break will mean a lot of time for bandwagons and reshuffling so you'd imagine having that little bit of patience in WC'ing GW8 would allow you to see things more clearly perhaps, get a bit more information and break away from the template.

Exactly just like this week. I do not feel that there will be as much bandwagon like last international break. imo.....as the season progresses more people stop playing the game and you will wont see 3 players have triple rises in a GW. Furthermore, team values will build at a slower pace into the season for the same reason.

I wrote a detailed reply and then...server crash.

In short, I agree with yo: last week felt like a shift in momentum, it's scary without RVP and having a poor bank balance isn't pretty, but your team looks good. Just make quality transfers when / where necessary. Not having so much money tied up in RVP, and a commitment to stick with him might give us more freedom to bring in Roons / Aguero etc if needed.

Thanks, that's a pity I couldn't read your detailed reply! the server crashed for me too. Either way I get the gist of what you're saying. I'm planning the Aguero transfer in a few weeks, He'll rise so much once he scores a goal and it would be a) great for team value and b) a huge differential

          C) Great for City D) Great for me!

I plan on WC'ing around then as well. I would love Aguero to get hot, so I can dump RVP after making a little more profit. That would give me so much to spend and I'll blow my ML opponents out of the water with a team they can't afford.

ha, no, I'm afraid it would be a gamble too far. At 6.5 he's inflated compared to more likely starters like Graham/Lambert/Long. Odemwingie being suspended makes it interesting as Lukaku could start but then maybe Brunt would get the start and they'd stick with Long and Fortune up front. I think it's verging on insanity to gamble on him I'm afraid 😉

Saying that, Long or Morrison I would consider a safe enough punt.

Hazard to Michu = Meh.. Michu price has risen quite a bit though the good fixtures are tempting
      Zab - Baines = Nice
Obert to Kaca = How sure are you he will be in the side? Plus fulham are poor away and their next few fixtures are majority away.
Dyer to Pienaar = Seems good to me

Captain on RVP, Tevez or Hazard. Tough pick...

RVP - Against woeful liverpool but with SAF around i won't be surprised if Welback starts
Hazard - Minimal rest compared to RVP and Tevez due to champ league & against hard hitting stoke
Tevez - Arsenal defence is quite good this season plus madrid surely have drained a bit out of him.

    so who is everyone captaining?

Ah, I actually don't trust SAF with anything anymore. Sold all my united players (RVP, Kagawa). Although I don't see RVP being rested this weekend, it may happen. Tevez, I say no, Arsenal defence is pretty organized and Koscielny probably returning this weekend.

It's either Hazard (if you wanna be safe, as most are doing it) or RVP, I reckon.

Anybody else think spurs are going to go on a bit of a run, decent fixtures, team starting to settle down..... Bale would be a nice captain pick this week.

I hope you're right. While the masses gained weekly points and a load of price rises by jumping on new boys Hazard and Michu I stuck with reliable old Bale. He's cost me money and only returned points last week.

I'm leaning towards throwing him the armband

Yep, they're going to start being a force to reckon with again. Unless AVB somehow messes it up. Their team is too good to not consider in the long run. But their team is so messy for FPL purposes. Who do you buy in midfield? Sure, Bale is the obvious one but at 9.3 you'd want to expect a goal every second week, but there's a lot of competition there with the likes of Siggy, Dempsey likely to score the goals from midfield. Then there's the lone striker thing, who do you go for Defoe or Ade? Not worth risking either really unless one gets injured. Wouldn't mind having Bale though this week!

Bale has to be the choice as hes the most nailed on, Lennon seems to be getting a run but i'm too nervous of AVB to consider him. Siggy is playing in the hole but anyoyingly isnt scoring points, that said his performances seem to be improving...... Dempsey yet to make an apperance and Demb plays a little deeper.... so it has to be Bale. Defoe is intresting too given Ades hammy problem.

Currently have it on Bale. Hoping he can do something with no other obvious choice out there.

Michu all the way for me! Bale would be a serious choice with Ade playing the lead role. Now that he's injured and Defoe( who shoots to goal all the time) playing, I don't think so.

Not so sure Swansea will have it all their own way agianst Everton..... but like you say you have to go with your gut on these matters Yash.

ok need some advice from some wise heads who've done this for a while. Team is ok but not great, there are some moves I'd like to make over the next few GW. It would require 2 hits over 2 weeks. Is it worth keeping my WC & taking a total of -8 over 2 weeks to get the team to move forward? Alternatively, I play Puncheon this week, then WC on Saturday night.

    Cheers guys.

Take the hits unless you are changing big time.

Yeh I would only "have" to change around 4 players if I WC'd... ofcourse I would do more though if I did.

The general consensus seems to be that anything over - 8 points is WC territory......

I think your midfield is quite strong.

Fix GK. and take a 4pt hit for Petric

Yep. Foster is in for DDG. Hit for Petric is on the cards for this GW. However another hit would be necessary next week for Baines, who i want for SOU home.

Mate thats the worse reason ever for wanting Baines, we score goals, sadly not as many as we conceed 🙂

haha You raise a valid point, & no disrespect intended. May have to forget the Baines hit next GW. Puncheon doing enough to keep his spot?

Punch is a funny one NA tried to sell him twice last year and he was out on loan and yet this season (as he has pace) he's getting a run, but the general feeling is that NA isnt such a fan which is why Ramirez is a threat....

        Ouch.

Mine - take your pick off Demel/Jass/Jenk...... yep thats righ they've kept 3 CS's out of 4 and I've only played them on the 4th game........clearly my fault not theres, but dissapointing never the less.

BTW...Jass/Demel are starting this week....nailed on sunderland score in the 93rd min.
