Featured in the forthcoming Channel Five fly on the wall documentary about Liverpool FC is a severe dressing down for teenage winger Raheem Sterling from manager Brendan Rodgers.

Fantasy managers would have been forgiven for thinking that Sterling’s first team chances would be limited after he dared to muttered ‘steady’ under his breath during one of Rodgers’ team talks. Turns out the incident was something of a red herring – Rodgers not only appears to have forgiven the 17-year-old, but rates him so highly that Sterling has managed 90 minutes in each of Liverpool’s last three matches.

After a disappointing end to the summer transfer window, which saw the Reds fail to land chief target Clint Dempsey and wave goodbye to Andy Carroll on loan, Sterling appears to have very little competition on the flanks. Fellow winger Stewart Downing is falling so far out of favour Rodgers wants to convert him to left back and new recruit Oussama Assaidi still needs time to adjust to the English game.

Rodgers appears so convinced of Sterling’s ability that he is also prepared to play him on either wing, as one of the key players to feed central striker Luis Suarez. While against Manchester City and Arsenal he was deployed mainly on the left wing, a switch to the right against Sunderland in Gameweek 4 increased his potential further, with Sterling producing an assist for the Uruguayan during the 1-1 draw.

England manager Roy Hodgson is also impressed. After the former Queen’s Park Rangers academy player’s recent run in Liverpool’s first team, he was swiftly promoted from the England Under19s to the full England squad earlier this month.

Priced initially at 4.5m in the FPL game and 4.3m in the Sky Sports game, he is arguably the pick of the cheap midfielders on offer. Sterling’s cost, however, is set to rise as he continues to cement a wide role, with expectations high on the back of his Black Cats’ performance. Already 17,598 managers have transferred him in this Gameweek in the FPL game, which has seen his price rise to 4.6m.

His emergence as a Fantasy prospect also coincides with a turn in fixtures for Liverpool over the next six game weeks. While this weekend’s home showdown with United may deter many, history shows that it may turn out to be profitable for the Merseysiders. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have not won at Anfield in the league for the last four seasons, with Liverpool registering eight goals to Manchester United’s three in the fixture since 2008/9. With (nor, STO, REA, eve, NEW) to follow, Sterling could well be set for a prosperous next few weeks as he looks to justify his manager’s show of faith.

    rate my team:

    Friedel (Jaaskeliainen)
    Santon McAuley Williams
    Kagawa Pienaar HBA Hazard (c)
    Fletcher RVP Tevez

took a 4 point hit this week to bring in Santon and McAuley for Cuellar and Wilkinson

why the hit? u expecting those 2 defenders to score? cos even if you get an extra clean sheet, youre only getting back what you paid out in hit points (-4)

i thought it was better that than getting no points.

i expect one of them to get a clean sheet and with my only other options being gorkss (defo not a clean sheet and potential minus points this week) and McCartney (who seems to be bench fodder now for sam allerdyce) added to the next few fixtures for newcastle and WBA it seemed like a good call.

I'd rather 2 points than no points and I see at least one of Newcastle or WBA getting a clean sheet this weekend.

West Brom. Defo not West Ham.

You have to remember that Sunderland's Steven Fletcher has been considered "unfit" during the past couple of fixtures by Martin O'Neill and still played and got some nice goals. He's got much better service this season than he had at Wolves last season and I don't think West Ham will be able to stop him. He scored the most goals from headers last season of all strikers in the EPL if i am not mistaken. Or at least he was in the top 3.

Tread carefully against sunderland this season.

And I say this as a begrudging scot because he won't play for our national team 🙁

Not a chance. Someone as nimble as Hazard is bound to play against those rough boys Stoke. Think of all the potential free kicks, penalties and assists he can get against them.

If anything i'd say his a potential captain this week, not for the bench!

    A) Gervinho + Berbatov + 1.8M in the bank

    B) Cazorla + Fletcher + 0M in the bank

"Leon Britton is struggling with flu, while Ashley Williams, Jonathan De Guzman and Danny Graham have all missed training this week with ankle knocks. Meanwhile, Kemy Agustien is ruled out for at least two matches with a calf injury sustained in training. The Dane expects Williams to make the weekend and with Chico suspended, his defensive resources are stretched."

Has to be Sterling of that lot. Although I see a Liverpool win on Sunday.

El Capitano should be between Hazard and RVP. I am leaning towards Haz.

Oh, Ancelotti.. I wish your prediction will be correct. If you think Liverpool will win, I'd not captain Robin.

Sterling looks a great young player let's just hope he doesn't crumble under the inevitable over hype the british media will lay on...

Lost on last article (sorry for reposting)

      I'm stuck on my defenders

      I need to upgrade Fabio
Rest of defence: Vidic, Terry, Hangerland, Baines

Next season I’m not getting the big boys in until they’re settled! Lesson learned

Thinking Fabio > Ridgewell + DDG > Jussi?

Does anyone think Hazard may be rested for this match?

Morrison every day of the week for me.

Is this to play or to get in?

Morrison, you can always get Sterling as he is quite cheap

      Davies
      mcauly demel rafael
      michu hazard cazorla morrison
      lambert rvp tevez

      bench: howard pienaar davis cuellar

have 0.1m and still have 1FT. have the following issues:
      1) should i save my transfer as i dont know who i can bring in. having 2 next week will allow me to bring in berba
      2) who to captain? hazard or rvp
      3) the swans vs everton is confusing, not sure who will keep a clean sheet so benching both howard and davies (swans defender).
      4) choosing morrison to start over pienaar.

      Thoughts?

So I have narrowed my (c) choice between hazard and rvp.

      Opinions anyone?
