Champions League football kicked off this week, with all the intensity and passion we’ve come to expect from the greatest club cup competition. Last minute comebacks, goal bonanzas and refereeing blunders have already been aplenty, but our key concern from a Fantasy perspective focused on the teamsheets and rotation. These first weeks show us the measure of intent for both cup and league, and more importantly who will be assured of the 90 minutes on any given Saturday.

Chelsea edged their way to glory at the end of last season; with odds seemingly stacked against them, the Blues battled past the top teams of Europe to see their names engraved for the first time on the illustrious trophy. Roberto Di Matteo wants a repeat from his squad this season, buying strength in depth and putting a side bristling with intent against Serie A leaders Juventus on Tuesday. Eden Hazard has been pivotal to Chelsea’s success in the league so far this campaign, and looks like he’ll be playing his third 90 minutes in a week against Stoke this weekend. Such is his energy and fitness, this amount of pitch time seems more likely to leave him sharper rather than fatigued. Payddy’s 7/2 odds on a Hazard goal and Chelsea clean sheet against Stoke City therefore seems decent value. We’re gonna dip into our tenner for the first time this week with a £4 stake.

We go from Stamford Bridge at the top of the League, to St Mary’s at the very bottom. Southampton have suffered with the toughest fixture list imaginable in their first year back in the English top-flight but, although they have managed to net more goals than eighth place West Ham, Nigel Adkins’ side has leaked 14 goals in their four games to date. Dismal stuff. Despite this, Rickie Lambert’s goal record last season and his threat so far in the current campaign warrants him a place on the Scout Picks bench. As visitors Aston Villa are still yet to fully find their rhythm, Paddy’s 7/1 for a Lambert goal and a Saints cleanie is definitely worth a quid of our money.

West Ham haven’t notched too many goals this season, but they’ve certainly racked up the shutouts: four in five games in all competitions demonstrates that Sam Allardyce has established a settled back line which could provide the platform for survival. At the other end, Kevin Nolan is key – particularly while former housemate Andy Carroll lies stricken on the sofa. As Nolan’s already earned winnings for us this season, we’re going to go big and take our last £5 at 8/1 for a West Ham clean sheet and another Nolan strike.

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Pratik, really stuck on this one. Really liked the 5 mid system, but ppl were bashing me due to rotation etc.

Who would you bench this week of this lot:

    Baines-Gibbs-Saylor-Gallas-Demel
    Hazard-Barfa-Michu-Pienaar-Morrison

Had Pienaar,Gibbs and Demel benched originally

People are right, we'll have benching issues, but I think the points will also come there in the team. Plus our team will be so flexible we won't require hits etc.

With the exception of Gibbs, I have no idea of whom you could bench. It's a tough choice.

Benching gw5 - Gibbs, Podolski, Sterling

Benching gw6 - Gallas, (mun vs tott)
      Chelsea vs Arsenal (gibbs)
      Perhaps Demel

Hmm benching Podolski?? Never thuoght of that. Could be a good shout.

Oh and wanted to run the idea by you:

        Vertonghen+Nelsen over Gallas+Saylor OR
        Verm+Nelsen over Gibbs+Saylor

But that kinda defeats the purpose of a rotation back line i guess.

Also wanted to ask you why Barfa over Hazard for (C)?

The captain poll isn't useful for my comparison as people pick who they are picking for captain, not who is the best out of those three options.

Also, they voting started mid-week and I want to know what people think now.

How on earth can you bench Pienaar?

Two assists vs. Newcastle which should have been 3 due to a very poor call by the linesman, a fragile Swansea defence and his link up with Bainsey has never been better.

I know I have my tinted glasses on but I can't bench him.

Also I can see Baines and Mirallas having more success than Pienaar; that being said he could always get a look but I think Rangel and Tate are a bit more settled on his side than say a Davies/Williams.

I would probably play Michu and sit Yaya. Arsenal have maintain tight marking on key players hawking them like Barca generally did in Guardiola days. Especially with no Nasri to track. I would think of Dembele yet...Sandro is squeezing his space and not really sharing defensive responsibilities too well...nor is Sigs.

I actually like the move. If I could I would make the same move. Almost 50% of people have him...Podolski is world class and clearly has a share of set pieces, has a great chemistry with Gervinho and Gibbs. I think that Tevez will struggle with the level of defensive pressure he gets as he did with Stoke. Also think he will be subbed off if Balo doesn't do anything stupid. There's a reason nobody is captaining him this week. I honestly don't think City will see a lot of the ball; 45% if they're lucky.

Apologies if the question has been asked already, but been AWOL this week...

Likely only to have 11 starters due to injuries, including Zabaleta, and have already made my change:

Likelihood of Zabaleta starting? Or do I get shot (day late I know) for a 4 point hit?

    RMT:
    Friedel Federici
    Fonte McCartney Clichy Rangel Boyce
    Kagawa Hazard Bale Dyer Noble
    RvP Tevez Pogrebnyak

    Two free transfers.

    Considering:
    1) Kagawa and Clichy to Morrison and Baines
    or
    2) Kagawa, Clichy, Pogrebnyak to Sterling, Baines and Berbatov (4 point hit)

    thoughts?

    Regarding Captain Poll: RVP Differential
Well, we all know the man is fixture proof & he does score in big games (Remember the hat trick against Chelsea Away last season), This Liverpool vs United could be a high scoring game (Could be not), But, United's goals gonna come from RVP, He's on Penalties too (Well, atleast until Rooney arrives & SAF has stated that in the recent interview). I know Hazard leads the poll, But, if you are looking for a differential, then , RVP is your man.
His goal stats speaks to itself
44 goals from 57 appearances for Club & Country 2011/2012
5 goals from 7 appearances for Club & Country 2012/2013

How is he a differential when over 32% of people own him, and a Casuals magnet? I mean he could be a diff. within the Fantasy Wonk community but hell you're unlikely to change arrows...
