Champions League football kicked off this week, with all the intensity and passion we’ve come to expect from the greatest club cup competition. Last minute comebacks, goal bonanzas and refereeing blunders have already been aplenty, but our key concern from a Fantasy perspective focused on the teamsheets and rotation. These first weeks show us the measure of intent for both cup and league, and more importantly who will be assured of the 90 minutes on any given Saturday.

Chelsea edged their way to glory at the end of last season; with odds seemingly stacked against them, the Blues battled past the top teams of Europe to see their names engraved for the first time on the illustrious trophy. Roberto Di Matteo wants a repeat from his squad this season, buying strength in depth and putting a side bristling with intent against Serie A leaders Juventus on Tuesday. Eden Hazard has been pivotal to Chelsea’s success in the league so far this campaign, and looks like he’ll be playing his third 90 minutes in a week against Stoke this weekend. Such is his energy and fitness, this amount of pitch time seems more likely to leave him sharper rather than fatigued. Payddy’s 7/2 odds on a Hazard goal and Chelsea clean sheet against Stoke City therefore seems decent value. We’re gonna dip into our tenner for the first time this week with a £4 stake.

We go from Stamford Bridge at the top of the League, to St Mary’s at the very bottom. Southampton have suffered with the toughest fixture list imaginable in their first year back in the English top-flight but, although they have managed to net more goals than eighth place West Ham, Nigel Adkins’ side has leaked 14 goals in their four games to date. Dismal stuff. Despite this, Rickie Lambert’s goal record last season and his threat so far in the current campaign warrants him a place on the Scout Picks bench. As visitors Aston Villa are still yet to fully find their rhythm, Paddy’s 7/1 for a Lambert goal and a Saints cleanie is definitely worth a quid of our money.

West Ham haven’t notched too many goals this season, but they’ve certainly racked up the shutouts: four in five games in all competitions demonstrates that Sam Allardyce has established a settled back line which could provide the platform for survival. At the other end, Kevin Nolan is key – particularly while former housemate Andy Carroll lies stricken on the sofa. As Nolan’s already earned winnings for us this season, we’re going to go big and take our last £5 at 8/1 for a West Ham clean sheet and another Nolan strike.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

I have adebayor. Dont want to cost myself 4 points so do i:

    a) start him and hope he starts/comes on and gets some points?
    b) bench him for Kaca (wig)
    c) bench him for Clyne (AVL)

    d) cost four points and bring in a striker. Who though?

unimpressed with their last 28 minutes of play (against Madrid). They also have issues developing in the back. They could really really use Nasri. Madrid also exposes clear issues with their team speed which Wenger will exploit...exspecially if they try to boss the pitch early. If we could only develop a 1/3 of the counter game Madrid has...

In a recent dream I was moving swiftly accross the New Mexico desert covering miles and miles of ground. Spotting an arrow drawn in the sand I moved towards a cave. In the cave was a Hopi shaman chanting by a fire. When I asked him why he had brought me here all he said was 'captain Lambert this week'. so I did 🙂

Having a hard time deciding if I want to use my FT this week.

    Foster
    Gallas Clyne Demel
    Hazard Pienaar HBA Cazorla
    RVP(c) Tevez Fletcher

    Subs: Bego, Sterling, Rafael, Cueller

Was thinking maybe getting Papiss Cisse for either RVP or Tevez? I've only earned 0.1 on RVP, so that's more likely. They have Newcastle and Spurs their next 3 matches, but RVP can score vs anyone.. kinda hard!

Play Rangel or Demel? Already have Jaask as GK, Am not sure about Swans ability to keep a CS against Everton & Am not a big fan of doubling up on West Ham's defence either, Sunderland might score against West Ham. Suggestion please Lads

I'veasked the same question a few times but never gotten a response.

That means no one really knows I reckon. I'm personally going with double hammers cause it's big Sam at home.

I would never double up on West Ham, especially with Sunderland looking potent on the break.

Then again, Swansea look very limited at the back with all their injury woes. Anichebe scored a great goal and is raring to go so tough choice!

Disagree. West ham will be this year's standout budget defence.

I do still worry about doubling up with them vrs Sunderland but they've only got one real route to goal, everton would worry me a bit more crs swans but with jelly out,it's close.

But west ham are going to be the business this season. They start every game looking for a draw!

graham, snodgrass > lambert, morrison (wba)
like snodgrass, but norwichs poor form and tough fixtures are forcing my hand
