[sbu_large_image] The Stock Check

A mixed bag from Saturday’s action, as mid-price assets flourish and Eden Hazard stutters to disappoint his armband backers. Here’s the “Stock Check” from Gameweek 5 so far…

On the Up

Rickie Lambert
Southampton’s striker is well and truly in the mix for our third striker spot. We raised him in the Watchlist this week and Lambert lived up to his billing, gaining a brace in the 4-1 comeback victory over Villa. We anticipated his bandwagon – it looks like we’re going to get it.

Steven Fletcher
The Scot maintained his incredible form for the Black Cats, converting his fourth shot for his fourth goal to put Martin O’Neill’s side in front at Upton Park. Fletcher remains another candidate for our Fantasy forward lines, although again, Sunderland had just his one effort on target all afternoon.

Marouanne Fellaini
Yet again, Fellaini was outstanding for the Toffees: it’s tit-for-tat with the Belgian and Steven Pienaar who was also excellent in the 3-0 win at Swansea. Given Everton’s invigorated attacking form, there’s a case for considering both. For those wondering, we’d expect Pienaar’s assist to be awarded at some point.

Leighton Baines
We gambled on his Scout Picks selection for an away game but Baines duly delivered again. It was another display full of creativity, with the assist for Felliani’s goal and a clean sheet thrown in. We’ll keep on stressing this – if you’ve money to spend on your defence, spend it on Baines. If you haven’t money to spend on your defence, Baines is presenting a very good case to try and find it.

Kevin Nolan
A third strike of the season saw the Hammers rescue a late point again remind us all again of Nolan’s consistency as a mid-price midfield offering, with or without Andy Carroll leading the line.

Jason Puncheon
If you need a budget option in midfield, Puncheon just might be the man to rival Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling. The winger kept his place despite a debut for Gaston Ramirez and delivered his third goal of the season – at least we think he has – shortly after it was scored, the Press Association changed it to a Ciaran Clark own goal. We await the verdict on that one.

Going Down

Nathan Dyer
Dropped to the bench to make way for Pablo Hernandez’ debut, the spritely winger finally emerged for the second half with the Spaniard suffering a knee injury. Dyer didn’t last long, however, seeing red for two bookables to add further frustration for his concerned Fantasy owners.

The Swansea Defence
Five goals conceded in the two games since the injury to Neil Taylor. Chico will surely return to the back four for the trip to Stoke next weekend after he serves out his three-match ban in the Capitol One cup tie in midweek.

John Terry
Considered untouchable within the Chelsea back four, Roberto Di Matteo rested both him and Frank Lampard to the bench after the midweek Champions League exertions. Terry missed out on the shutout as Ashley Cole owners cleaned up.

Eden Hazard
Backed by the majority in our Captain Poll, the Belgian drew a blank and was replaced by Victor Moses on 61 minutes. Those who handed him the armband now face an uncomfortable Sunday as Robin Van Persie takes the field at Anfield. Decent returns for the Dutchman will again remind us all of his consistency as an armband option.

Fernando Torres
Still owned by 29% of Fantasy Premier League managers, a home fixture with Stoke looked like an opportunity to repay the faith that has remained following the Gameweek 1 double fixture. Sadly, as has often been the case, the Spaniard disappointed. With mid-price prospects flourishing – we can surely expect big sales ahead of Gameweek 6.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    FPL says no assist for Liam Ridgewell? I just checked my score and he got 6 points. Everyone says he got the assist including this article but FPL says Brunt. Any ideas?

      Ridgewell was nowhere near, Shane Long won a header and Lukaku smashed it in. End of story.

    Argh, getting no replies. Let's try again:

    Friedel – Federici,
    Ivanovic – McAuley – Cuellar – Demel – Clyne,
    Hazard – Yaya – Michu – Pienaar – Guthrie,
    RVP – Tevez – Berba. (0.1)

    A) Friedel -> Foster, Ivanovic -> Baines for -4
    B) Michu -> Fellaini, Ivanovic -> Baines for -4
    C) Wildcard.

    Keep in mind that I took a hit this week as well so not too thrilled with the idea of back to back hits.

      Ba's up tonight and likely raise again, especially if he looks good 2moro.
      Fletcher possible, but he and Berbatov already moved so unlikely to squeak up more than 1, same with Duff.
      Felliani and Lambert are certainties I'd say considering their current price and fixtures.
      Baines is likely but already has high ownership so needs a big move.

      Pienaar should be the better bet long term, especially as Felliani is likely to be moved back now and again and will pick up cards. However, he's in such irresistable form right now it's hard to look beyond him (and not just because of his hair!)

    The above article is wrong. It was either a Long assist or a Brunt assist, more than likely a Long assist.

    Brunt chipped it towards Long, who looked to have headed it down. The only debate is whether Long knocked it down or the Reading defender knocked it down. It 100% was not Ridgewell.

      😀

      But I never gave Hazard, even a moment's consideration. It was always gonna be Bale, or Ba. But still don't trust Tottenham enough, and I just think B'Arfa is capable of being explosive

      Fingers crossed for tomorrow!!!

    Don't go overboard with the Lambert Brigade I say......they beat a very average side today who will be fighting relegation. I'm a Saints fan and feel we will stay up just!!

    If your looking for value look elsewhere...you got a result today "Lambert Brigade" but honestly look elsewhere!

    A) Friedel -> Foster, Ivanovic -> Baines for -4

    B) Michu -> Fellaini, Ivanovic -> Baines for -4?

    My other keeper is Federici so will have to move Friedel.

    Help needed.

    Can everybody watch this and tell me if the defender gets touch outside of the box. I watched 20 times and think no but still not 100% sure

      90% sure he didn't. Even if he did, I'm pretty sure the *touch* was too minimal to disregard Pienaar's assist..

        There isn't such thing as minimal touch. I thin only Rooney gets this kind of assists.

      It didn't change the intended destination of the ball, so it shouldn't matter.

    Okay, have to get rid of Dyer before the price fall.

    Thinking Dyer -> Duff (good form, graet fixtures, nailed on)... Either that or Nolan but every man and his goat in my league has Nolan so would love a differential.

    Thoughts?

      Dyer may not have a price fall as he is eligible for next week (capital cup) and will be fully rested so good chance he plays.

        Most people won't care about that, or even realise, they will just see the -2 in their team and sell him.

    I took a points hit and held of my Baines move to get Hazard in a few weeks back and I made a last FFS-influenced switch in my captains choice from Berbs this morning, but now I'm already thinking of shipping him out to create space for a Baines/Felliani double swoop.

    Is that madness?

    It's not that he didn't excel today so much as the rise of the creative players around him - Mata, Oscar and Torres will surely take their share of spoils and Moses has to slot in there somewhere too. Also, Chelsea's upcoming fixtures aren't the most favourable.
