Laurent Koscielny steps in for the flu-stricken Thomas Vermaelen to extend Arsenal’s unbeaten run at City, while a tactical switch at half-time earns Andre Villas-Boas his first home win at the Lane. Here’s Part Two of the Stock Check:

On the Up

Laurent Koscielny
Handed a chance in the back-four with Thomas Vermaelen sidelined by flu, the Frenchman returned Arsene Wenger’s faith with a late equaliser earning his side a deserved draw at City. With Vermaelen expected to return to the first XI next weekend, though, Koscielny looks set to vie with Per Mertesacker for the other central defensive berth after an impressive showing.

Santi Cazorla
The playmaker was in the points once again this afternoon, supplying the assist for Koscielny’s equaliser. After starting the season with a couple of blanks, Cazorla is starting to pick up in consistency and has now produced attacking returns in each of his last three games.

Gareth Bale
Initially, it didn’t look good for his Fantasy owners. With Kyle Naughton and Benoit Assou-Ekotto ruled out, the Welshman started at left-back against QPR but was moved to his familiar left wing berth after the break as the hosts trailed 1-0. The switch turned the game in Spurs’ favour – the home side were far more threatening and with Bale providing the assist for Jermain Defoe’s winner, it’s unlikely Andre Villas-Boas will be in a hurry to repeat such an experiment again.

Steven Caulker
Climbing off the bench for his first league minutes this season, he provided the assist for his side’s own goal equaliser. It wasn’t so much the attacking returns that has boosted his appeal, though – the tactical switch that saw Jan Vertonghen move to left-back may convince Villas-Boas to continue with the back-four that ended the game if Kyle Naughton fails to recover in time for next weekend.

Bobby Zamora
While plenty of other names have been mulled over for the third striker slot, the QPR man seems to have slipped under the Fantasy radar of late. Today’s goal at Spurs was his third in four appearances, though, and with (WHM, EVE, RDG) in the next five, he could be a decent differential.

Going Down

The City Defence
Joleon Lescott may have handed his owners plenty points with the opener against the Gunners but City once again disappointed at the back. The 1-1 draw means Roberto Mancini’s side have yet to register a clean sheet this season – the sales looks set to continue, with several mid-price options proving strong value right now.

City Forward Rotation
Mancini freshened up his front two from last week, with the return of Sergio Aguero seeing Carlos Tevez drop to the bench for the first time this season. With Edin Dzeko replacing Mario Balotelli, the City forward line looks set to frustrate plenty Fantasy managers as Mancini has one eye on the Champions League. Already, some are considering selling on Tevez after today’s teamsheet but, having been dropped for today’s match, you’d expect him to return to the first XI for the trip to Fulham.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
The Icelandic international was the man sacrificed in Villas-Boas’ half-time switch in a continuation of his dire start to the Fantasy season. Sigurdsson may have started four matches but the most he’s managed is 71 minutes – Clint Dempsey moved into the role in “the hole” after the break and could well be called upon from the start next week at United, with a move to the bench for Sigurdsson looking a real possibility.

I don't mind RMT as people can give you suggestions you perhaps never considered.

But people asking if a good score is good, is annoying and it should be against the board's rules.

One thing I've noticed though - 9 times out of 10, the highest weekly scores are absolute gash overall at the game. Just a lucky week.

    Standard long brain dump.

Just came back from watching City v Arsenal at the local. Arsenal midfield three of Arteta, Diaby and Cazorla was dominant and ran the game. Dominated for periods at the Etihad! There were a few nervy moments in defence but in general they defended well in open play - their positioning was extremely organized against virtually the toughest attack in the league. We did give the ball away in compromising positions several times, but I don't think we conceded a single 1v1 (apart from a ludicrous clearance inside the box). Jenkinson and Gibbs were generally excellent and got forward a lot. I'll bring Gibbs or Sagna in any week now.

Attack wise: things have not become clear enough yet to be confident investing in anyone except Cazorla, and even he is borderline. The reason being that his pass receivers are still not sharp enough - Gervinho being the worst culprit virtually at center forward, while Podolski missed badly from a great cutback. Giroud is still subdued. Cazorla will only see truly explosive returns when he has receivers making the most of his service. His assist came indirectly from a corner, and he had some shots on target as well as one off - all from outside the area because he loves a shot.

Of course, if you believe the Chelsea defence is waiting to be exposed by pace, which we have loads of, you may be willing to take the punt this week.

While Gervinho was wasteful, I think he's a differential waiting to happen. He has position (OOP even because this is the second PL game he's been played at center forward), service and chances. Wenger is continuing the experiment of using him centrally, as he did in preseason. He is capable of gigantic scores IF he sorts his finishing out.

One further thing to consider is that while Arsenal could be said to be playing a fluid 4-2-3-1, they are not playing with a dominant center forward (RVP) anymore. They rely on overwhelming the defence using midfield runs from multiple sources, and the center forward is as much a defender's distraction as anything. At times we felt strikerless during the first half before Giroud came on. As such, attacking points are distributed amongst all 4 attacking players. So think Swansea, except Cazorla is Michu, Routledge and Dyer are Gervinho and Podolski, and Graham is Giroud.

Sorry Graham, that's a bit unfair on you.

I wouldn't personally yet, not seen much to convince me he's worth the significant extra over Gibbs and money is pretty tight now, particularly in light of the encouraging form of Cazorla, Bale and us sticking with Haz for a bit. Gibbs does have great assist potential - loves interchanging on the left.

Ok lads. The plan was to bring Baines this week. The contenders were Lescott or Cashley. But guess what. Both of them scored this week. So should I continue with the plan and sell Lescott probably for Baines or maybe I should reconsider and keep them. Maybe to go without Baines or Hangeland to Baines and downgrade Tevez for some mid price option and lets admit there are tones of them.

      Thoughts?

I have the same dilemma with Lescott. He scored but am not sure Mancini will be too happy with his defending. Since you have Cashley also I think you should shed Lescott. Get Baines if you don't have any Everton midfield cover.

        Vorm Jaaskelainen
        Rangel Hangeland Demel Zabaleta Gorkss
        Hazard Yaya Cazorla Kagawa Michu
        Torres Tevez Pogrebnyak

Last week this team looked good, oh how a week changes everything! ;(

Got 2 FT and 0.1 mil in the bank was thinking
        a) Zab + Kaw > McAuley + Piennar (free)
        b) Zab + Kaw + Pog > McAuley + Piennar + Lambert (-4pt)

Worried about Torres now as looks off form again and Tevez now rotation risk - their fixtures are good though still so could back fire if I get rid of these big guns??

Any help or suggestions would be amazing!

        Re-post: Currently I have Lescott/Figueroa/Clark/Hangeland/Tierney.

So who should I ship out and who should I get? I am thinking one of Clark/Figueroa -> McAuley. I should mention I have Howard as my goalie so not hot on doubling up on Everton defence, I also have Pienaar so have covered that left side of Everton.

        Heeeelp...

Today is the day to make my decision

        a) Ivanovic => Baines for free
        b) Rangel + Kagawa => Baines + Ben Arfa / Gervinho

A means I can get Cazorla in for Kagawa for gw7, B means I can keep both Ivanovic and Baines but have to go without Cazorla (unless ditch Hazard).

ok folks am I right to save the FT this week?

        Migs

        Rafa, Baines, Hangeland

        Michu, Johnson (vc), Hazard, Ramirez

        Tevez, Berba, RvP (c)

        Fed, Noble, Clyne, Davies

1.5 in the bank but 0.6/7 is reserved for Fed to Foster. Maybe sell Noble, would have about 5.7 to spend, is it worth it, or do I just keep Noble as bench fodder?

think hazard is fair enough. 1 penalty in 5 games (assists are great if he can get 2 a game, but goals are what get the bps) and oscar's emergence will only hurt him minutes and position wise

no plans to ditch RvP or Michu.

Hazard in GW8 most likely (to Caz/Gervinho) I discussed Tevez before, but having had a fair rest today, he will no doubt be rested for LC mid-week, I expect to be starting again next weekebnd
