This week’s trio of overlooked options includes a couple of former Tottenham forwards with form on their side and home games on their respective agendas. With last week’s three picking up an assist between them, we’re hoping for an upturn in fortunes:

Peter Crouch

Despite a tricky opening run of fixtures, the Stoke forward has had a decent start to the new season. With a couple of goals already in his locker – including a strike against City in his previous home match – Crouch has also picked up an assist for Tony Pulis’ side. Bearing in mind the Potters have only found the net on four occasions thus far, this means Crouch has played a part in 75% of their goals; a clear example of his importance to the cause.

Although he’s highly priced in the Sky Sports game, coming in at 8.8, a cost of 6.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) represents strong value. Already, he has produced eight bonus points in the latter game and has accrued a total of 29 points – only two behind the likes of Steven Fletcher and Rickie Lambert, for example. While the aforementioned pair have picked up plenty of interest due to their mid-price appeal, Crouch has been largely overlooked; only 6.4% FPL managers have snapped up his services so far.

Up against a Swansea side that have conceded seven goals in their last three league games, he looks an enticing option ahead of tomorrow’s deadline – if Pulis’ side are to register their first win of the new campaign, it seems almost inevitable that Crouch will play some part.

Bobby Zamora

Three goals in four appearances would normally have Fantasy managers scrambling to get aboard the bandwagon. Zamora, however, has suffered the ignominy of a price drop in FPL, slipping from 6.5 to 6.4 despite his strong recent showings. Having been dropped for the season opener at home to Swansea, he was installed to the first-team after the 5-0 Loftus Road thrashing and has been quick to justify Mark Hughes’ decision.

Finding the net in road trips to Norwich, City and Spurs, Zamora’s eye for goal has helped him rack up five bonus points – despite the fact the London outfit have yet to register a win this term. Averaging six points per game in FPL, his consistency has been the one positive in a dismal start for QPR yet only 1.4% of Fantasy managers have been willing to take a chance on the former Fulham man. This weekend sees Zamora handed a home showdown with another of his previous clubs, West Ham, and with both sides desperate to bounce back from their midweek Capital One Cup exits, Zamora could well be the difference as Hughes attempts to engineer a climb up the table.

Robert Snodgrass

Unlike our other two protagonists, the Norwich new boy has had a tricky start to the new campaign. The Canaries have failed to fire under the guidance of Chris Hughton and are currently sitting on just two goals after the opening five Gameweeks. Snodgrass has bagged one of those strikes, firing home a late equaliser away to Spurs to open his account for the season in Gameweek 3.

Having managed 55 minutes of the opener at Fulham, the former Leeds man has played every minute since – an indication of Hughton’s reliance on his creativity and set-piece ability. Liverpool roll up to Carrow Road tomorrow without a clean sheet to their name thus far and if the hosts are to persevere, Snodgrass – with a mere 1.4% ownership in FPL – is likely to be central to their attacking endeavours.

They raised their game against United, as they always do. Been crap otherwise.Liverpool have always disappointed any time they have had a good run of fixtures for the past few years.

Will take a steady run of results and some much better football for me to even consider them. Arsenal on the other hand really ARE playing some decent stuff.

Podolski is barely a striker and will score less than half as many goals as Suarez this season IMHO. Even with the extra price, Suarez is worth it.

Two to bench out of McAuley (vil), Michu (sto), Lambert (eve) and yaya (ful).

Need a captain out of Baines (SOU), Jelavic (SOU) or Ben Arfa (rea).

Here is my team for the week:

    Begovic
    Baines / Vermaelen / Vertonghen
Bale / Cazorla (vc) / Michu / Pienaar
    Suarez / Jelevic (c) / Lambert

    Foster / Sterling / Nelsen / Demel

    £2.9 in the bank.

Should I start Nelsen over Vertongen?

No not confident as I actually don't think Everton will rail road Southampton like most people and feel it could be a score draw, however I don't have many better options and he is a nice differential if he does get a big haul.

Michu @ Stoke seems risky, but it doesn't look like you have much choice.

      Tevez is a doubt because:
      a) Aguero is back
      b) Carlos played 120 min in midweek.

I think he'll still get some time, however.

Unlucky for Berbatov owners. Even more unlucky for those who got him in early in the week for price rises.
Some may jump on this comment and say "wait til Friday before you do transfers!"
Others may (and have) said LOL..Berbatov injured!! etc. etc.
With the market being so volatile peoples hands are being forced earlier and earlier. It's just plain bad luck and I sympathize (I don't own Berbs). It could just as easily have been Fellaini, Ba or Fletcher who pulled a muscle in training.

This site seems very divided over Suarez. I think Liverpool have been looking quite good lately so i back him to do well.

How many times did Liverpool/Suarez look good last season yet fail miserably? I won't be getting him unless he can actually show some goalscoring form.

If people are shocked at the numbers getting rid of Berb, don't be. If you think about it, I'd say there's thousands who WC this week and had him in their team...so an easy transfer out is all there is to it. I'd say there's at least 20,000 who WCed too. In fact it's probably more like 50k/100k

    With a front 8 of:

    Hazard Carzola Fellaini Nolan
    Fletcher Lambert Aguero

Is it mad to be going with Fletcher(C)?

seems reasonable to me. There are a lot of differential cap picks this week, I went for Baines over Fletcher.

Okay, a bit different advice needed. I am in a work league based on the Telegraph FFL scoring. Can only make 3 pairs of changes a season as based on Excel.

I have 9.7m to spend on a defender and a forward. I have narrowed it to a choce between:

    Gibbs + Podolski
    or
    Riether + Aguero

You need to consider these are for season keepers and it's for a squad of 11, so if they don't play, it is no points.

    Best choice?

          sheeeesh..that is a rough choice!

I think I might do option #2 just because it spreads your coverage, although I do have high hopes for Lukas. Do you have other Arsenal or City players in your existing team?

Good call. I already have Verm (that would mean 2 out of 3 Arsenal defenders), and Cazorla. Only have Hart from City so far.

Thanks for the help. Option 2 it is. Cheers.

              Team is:

              Hart
              Verm, Baines, Riether
              Bale, Hazard, Cazorla, Sess, Pienaar
              RVP, Aguero

I am top at the mo, so hope to keep it that way.

I have the most random dreams...

Just dreamt that people on a forum like this one where discussing the news that a member of Bad Company had died trying to snort and smoke Bournville dark chocolate...

Any symbolic/occult meaning to be gleamed from that is, I'm sure, completely useless from an FPL perspective... 🙂

On an entirely different subject, I just woke to the news that Berbatov is injured, can someone fill me in on exactly how this happened?

    Thanks

Too close to call. Personally I think people are being harsh on Torres, and he will come good. If you think you have enough cover to last without Berbs for a couple of weeks then A.
