[sbu_large_image] The Stock Check

It’s a short, sharp Stock Check this evening, with just a single match to report on. Shane Long and Darren Bent were the main protagonists as the midlands derby finished all square:

On the Up

Shane Long
The Irishman returned to the West Brom starting line-up, having been dropped for the previous match against former club Reading. His opener means Long has now produced attacking returns in four of the first six Gameweeks for the Baggies.

James Morrison
Subbed off just after the hour mark last week with a leg problem, the Scot recovered in time to start this afternoon’s match. Morrison’s creativity came to the fore once more for the visitors – his assist for Long’s goal was his first attacking returns since Gameweek 2.

Darren Bent
Dropped for the first time this season, he was all set for a place in “Going Down”. Bent’s equaliser served a reminder to Paul Lambert that he can ill-afford to do without his services up top – he has now produced attacking returns in the last three Gameweeks.

Ciaran Clark
Handed a place on the Scout Picks bench, the Villa centre-half vindicated our decision by providing the assist for Bent’s strike. Clark’s attacking threat from the back is always liable to pick up the points – while his side have just one clean sheet all season, he has now returned a goal and assist for his Fantasy owners thus far.

Going Down

Romelu Lukaku
Despite scoring in his first start of the season last weekend, the Belgian was dropped to the bench as Steve Clarke opted for Long as the lone striker. Handed the role of impact sub once again, he almost won the game at the death but his chances of a regular role at the Hawthorns are looking less likely as the games go by.

Barry Bannan
He had started the last four and produced two assists prior to today’s match but Marc Albrighton’s return from injury looks bad news for Bannan. Dropped to the bench, the Scot was afforded just 20 minutes as Lambert freshened up his midfield options.

Gareth McAuley
With Liam Ridgewell already ruled out for this afternoon’s game, Steve Clarke will be concerned after the centre-half picked up a knock towards the end. The Baggies had used all their subs by this point, so McAuley stayed on the pitch – it might be nothing to worry about but with the commentators pointing out he was “struggling”, McAuley’s Fantasy owners will be keen to hear an official prognosis from the club.

    Looking at B*le last season.

1 goal between GWs 1 and 10, no goals from 23 onwards.

Incredibly explosive in the 13 weeks inbetween. Tough one. This is an unreliable Spurs who were brilliant yesterday and worth the win, but there are doubts over the consistency of an AVB side.

So only two cleanies so far this week? I nailed one with Shawcross, harsh luck Cuellar missing out 🙁

I'm thinking Hazard's beginners luck is over. I have Torres (yes someone still has him!), so am covered for the Norwich game, but have no Spurs so I guess Bale is the obvious swap for Villa? Two free's this week, other option is to downgrade (Lennon?) for funds to change Tevez to Aguero?

    Hmm lots to ponder... 🙂

If you value the importance of fixtures then taking Hazard out against Norwich who have just shipped 5 and play away at Chelsea, then obviously no.

Suarez may work, though RVP is scoring steadily and will explode sooner or later.

Its hard to tell- last year we saw him rested in the UCL games- but that seemed like a strange decision and did not work out too well as we saw. I think with the title won last year they will focuse on the CL and Aguero will be rested in PL games leading up to and after the CL games.

Aah, there are points coming from all avenues. I can't cope and I'm not used to it (last year seemed a lot fewer options). I shall save the FT and go into the international break with 2 FTs and more data.

I'm going to my WC for the break, that way Berbs will be fit by then and I cna bring him in, otherwise it's another transfer to do after it.

just seen Kagawas goal - quite tidy. but Bale looks more threatening (FPL-wise)

Bale to Hazard GW3. I think I need councilling for the biggest transfer cock up of all time. I remember coming on here and saying things like "i'll just stick with Bale regardless" and then "i've prepared myself for this transfer going wrong"...

I could crumble or I could take this season by the scruff of it's ruddy neck. I'm doing the latter!

I got rid of Bale on a WC, and brought in Hazard, so i'm justifying the mistake by refusing to admit it was a direct switch. I think it's important to swallow our pride and climb back aboard before it's too late. I remember refusing to board the Siggy wagon last year and it burnt me.

"swallow the pride". Great point, just not sure I can face it. If I bought him and he returned to his 2 pointers, I may just quit. Seriously.

Me too. For a hit too. When I picked him for my team I said to my self I will be patient with Bale and play him for the 5home from 7 especially knowing that he is streaky and could draw several blanks in a row. But I paid the price not going with the planned. The fact that he hasn't scored from Jan made the deal for me. That was the crucial reason for doing it. And everybody here were so damn lunatic for him.

So be it, learn the hard way

Your latter point is essential. He hadn't scored since Jan, so it wasn't a KJ after 3 games but after 8-9 months. 2 great fixtures had gone with puzzling tactics and performances under AVB so it seemed to make sense. Hazard seemed to be involved in every Chelsea goal...
