Canned pies may not be the only famous export of Fray Bentos for long if Southamptonโ€™s Gaston Ramirez carries on impressing in the Premier League. Born in the aforementioned Uruguayan town 21 years ago, this highly-rated attacking midfielder was signed by the south coast club at the eleventh hour of the summer transfer window for a club record ยฃ12m from Bologna.

His Premier League debut was something of a baptism of fire, coming on as a substitute during Arsenalโ€™s 6-1 mauling of Nigel Adkinsโ€™ promoted side, but Ramirezโ€™s talents were already in evidence. Positioned just behind lone striker Rickie Lambert, the new boy created one of the Saintsโ€™ best chances in the game with a fine pass, which Lambert ended up skewing wide.

More was to come in his first start, in Gameweek 5โ€™s home hammering of Aston Villa. Once again slotted in just behind Lambert, he gained an assist and a respectable EA Sports Index tally in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game of 21; not quite enough for bonus points but an indication of his future Fantasy potential. Despite Southampton losing 3-1 to Everton in Gameweek 6 at Goodison last weekend, Ramirez continued to shine, playing the full 90 minutes and scoring his sideโ€™s only goal.

Throughout his fledgling career goals have been a hallmark of his play, scoring 12 in 58 appearances for Bologna during his two-year stint at the club, including eight in his final Serie A season. The indications are that he could even make double figures this term if Southampton continue to pursue their attacking style of play.

While among the priciest of Southampton midfielders at 6.0 in the FPL game, Ramirez still represents something of a bargain if he continues to play in โ€œthe holeโ€. He is currently the top midfielder for the Saints in terms of FPL points per game, with an average of 4.3. Priced at 5.5 in the Sky Sports game, the Uruguayan he is also proving profitable, notching 18 points after just two starts.

Intriguingly, Ramirez looks a strong differential across the Fantasy games โ€“ only 0.4% of FPL managers have currently acquired his services, while even less (0.3%) in the Sky Sports game have decided heโ€™s worth a flutter. With a strong run of fixtures over the next six Gameweeks, (FUL, wha, TOT,wba, SWA, qpr) Lambert will no doubt pick up plenty of interest, affording Ramirez the chance to sneak under the radar and plunder the points until the bandwagon inevitably begins.

i somehow think Tevez is gonna score /assist vs sunderland (H) & brom (H) & baines , well he is almost a 7.5m defender , too pricey for my liking plus i got cole for 6.5 m with a much better assist potential.

I watched it up until the 70th min... wasn't brilliant tbh... he did have some chances but nothing spectacular, a few of his touches were akin to that of a ball bouncing off a brick wall...

With those numbers, he has to be clinical to get any goals out of that.

All good. It makes sense now. Yeah I'm all for the idea depending on how well the rotation works. Sterling for me is a great asset because I have no problem benching him or playing him in good fixtures.

To me Sterling would cause a (nice) problem. You have to play him for nice fixtures, which means somebody else has to miss out. But all it takes is a bit of forward planning, and you can organize your squad so that somebody always has a poor fixture.

To be honest I'm not that mad keen on Sterling. He only had a say in one of the five goals against Norwich so for me he is still a little green. I don't believe I have to play him in good fixtures as a result as I don't think he will be particularly prolific or reliable.

Yes. Barfa->Sterling this week, freeing up cash for next.

                Then I'll still have 2FT.

The problem is I want Lambert this week. And if Toon defence is still banged up I would consider RVP a strong contender for the armband.

He will always threaten to do that but thats why he costs 13.5m. You could have two players who match those returns. But then again you can't exactly start 12 players so if you have the cash a luxury player like RVP is worth it.

Is there a good reason Aguero would be rested this w/e? He's hardly played this season (so can hardly be tired), and he's got an international break coming up (so Man City wouldn't care if he's tired for those). Also Tevez previously started after 120 mins in midweek, so playing a full game in midweek is no barrier to starting.

No idea what's going on as autosubs has not kicked in.

I'm hoping FPL can't fix it in time this week so they have to declare everyone's GW6 scores null and void and reset everyone back to the score they were on after GW5 finished.

That would wipe out my worst ever gameweek score in FPL history.

Aye, I could live with that outcome.

Hoped for only 0.2 price drop this week, but looks like someone wants more - flag has been changed to orange now and he needs less net transfers out to drop again I suppose?

I'm not sure if glass is half empty or half full tbh.
Yesterday I saw some light at the end of the tunnel (as a Tevez & Berba owner), but now I'm thinking maybe taking care of my team value would have been worth another hit this week.

Oh how I wish I'd made that berba to ba last friday...just couldn't justify that move anymore for this week ๐Ÿ™

Yeah no intention to get rid of him anymore.
If he doesn't play this weekend, he will after internationals and they have good fixtures.
Just difficult to bite points loss + price loss...but hey, that was my decision.

My plan has been gw8 Hazard => Cazorla for weeks now.
Getting little nervous about that Santi boy, again nothing yesterday (didn't play whole game I know).

Is he really worth the extra cash vs Gervinho?

Can't see him as captain option atm.

    Bale(c) - Pienaar - Michu - Nolan (Sterling)

    RVP - Fletcher - Tevez

    >1m in bank, 1FT.

    a) Save transfer and have two for the int. break.
    b) Krul โžก Foster

Clyne (FUL) - home fixture and cheeky chappy who likes to get upfield and score.

Do you think that podolski is a better option than all of the other mid priced forwards around? I know that you have great fixtures, but i'm actually thinking of doubling up on the defense to take advantage of that.

An arsenal fan without santi. Interesting. Do you know something that I don't?

I got him in on my WC after he showed some good form, but I regret it now...

Not that I dont want Santi, its just I always intended to get him GW8/9, but now with Gervinho playing well, if he continues he might be a good shout as cheap Arsenal attacking cover.

Maybe downgrade Dyer to Sterling. I know it seems a bit of a waste but it'll give you a bit of cash to play around with your 2 FTs over the break.

That would tempt me also ๐Ÿ˜‰

But I think Podolski is still a great differential pick and Barfa is on decent form. Also, if Tevez starts the weekend (which he looks likely to imo) he could tear it up.

Did anyone watch the man utd match the other night? I read that they played two up front, with rooney in behind and no wingers. Is that right? I ask because I presume that is what pardiola has in mind for us when everyone is fit, with Barfa behind the dembas. Does this work as a formation? Barfa could be gold if he is freed of defensive responsibilities in this way.
