The Gunners show their spirit to come from behind and claim the points at Upton Park, as Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott arrive and Santi Cazorla confirms his class…

On the Up

Olivier Giroud
A first Premier League goal, was capped by the assist for Theo Walcott’s winner. The Frenchman has pedigree in his native country but has yet to convince on these shores. He’ll surely take great confidence from this evening’s performance, however, and Giroud could yet present another enticing option up front.

Santi Cazorla
We kept faith with Cazorla in the Watchlist rankings, settling him in third above his in-form team-mate Gervinho: tonight’s performance demonstrated just why. The Spaniard was, once again, superb and this time delivered on his hugely impressive numbers with a fabulous strike to seal the Arsenal victory.

Theo Walcott
A peripheral figure so far in Arsenal’s season, Walcott’s goal and his assist for Cazola’s effort was a reminder of his potential. Contract negotiations are still ongoing – if Walcott can finally settle, he could yet play a role in our Fantasy seasons. Right now, he’s an option that increases the likelihood of rotation in Wenger’s lineup.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Arsene Wenger brought Per Mertesacker back into his back four, dropping Laurent Koscielny to the bench – a decision likely to have been governed by the threat of Andy Carroll. The Gunners backline have now conceded in the last four and, more significantly, with Bacary Sagna and Wojciech Szczesney set for returns after the international break, there is a great deal of uncertainty in terms of personnel. Thomas Vermaelen appears to be the only assured starter, at least until we know more on Kieran Gibbs’ knock that saw him replaced just before the hour-mark tonight.

Gervinho
Giroud’s returns and Walcott’s showing from the bench signals trouble for owners of the Ivorian. Already he was pushed out wide on the right from the off in this evening’s game, only to be replaced by Walcott after 60 minutes after an ineffectual showing. Gervinho’s starting role is now immediately under increased threat, both as a central attacker and on the flank.

Ricardo Vaz Te
The Hammers striker had been enjoying a buoyant start to the season but this looks to have been derailed this evening by a suspected dislocation of the shoulder. Guy Demel also sustained a knock and his prognosis is likely to be a greater concern for Fantasy managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Talk of Kolarov...

    1) Surely he's nowhere near nailed on, with both him and Clichy rotating?
    2) He scored and got a cleansheet. Not very likely for both to happen again this season at the same time? As in... a one off?

Hopefully a team that has the perfect gk rotation of Fos and Bego; Baines the 6th Midfielder; three heavies in Bale, Mata and Cazorla in midpark and the fluid front 3 of RVP, Tevez and Lambchop will mean a settled team to come. 🙂

I was planning to WC this week, but with a nice score this week, should I hold back?
    my team now:
    Foster Fed
    Demel A.cole Baines Hughes Cuellar
    Hazard Yaya Michu Pineear Ramirez
    Tevez Torres Berba

so if I WC, I don't see much changes I can make, except yaya out for attack, and sort out my keeper.

should I save my WC for later?

I agree with this. You have a really strong squad and nothing much needing done to it. Lambert has a nice run of fixtures and he will continue scoring. I like Fletcher but Berbatov is the better option.

            Hmm...

Who would I bench next week? Lambert?

i have a feeling gervinho might get dropped from the arsenal team, maybe bring in sterling for gervinho and that frees up around 2.5 million, that extra cash then could be used to upgrade fletcher or lambert to a heavyweight striker

This is one of the options to consider I guess.

    Evening all

Was seriously considering an intl break WC this morning but after Hazard and Michu came up with the good I'm not so sure. Any views on the team below? especially what to do with Noble/Guthrie/Podolski?

    thanks

    Jaaskelainen Federici
    Ivanovic Olsson Baines Cuellar Hangeland
    Yaya Hazard Noble Guthrie Michu
    Podolski Van Persie Fletcher

thanks, having considerd my need to maximise the finances, i might leave guthrie as 8th choice re my forwards and midfielders but these have my attention:

        noble>sterling
        pod>ba

Does sterling have the stats to support this move or is noble waiting to (not exactly explode but at least do a little pffft!?)

Could someone explain why currently Chelsea / Southampton have a missing fixture GW17?

Also, Man U's fixtures GW11-15. Rooney + RVP + Kagawa FTW?

i think CHE is due to our participation in the club world championship - should lead to a tasty DGW at some point

What are Bale and Cazorla up to over the int break? Too risky to get them in now?

That Wigan v Everton game looked very good today. Loving my -4 repaid for Baines with the pen, let alone Mata's points. Sometimes it pays off to take a hit, not often though.

Brilliant penalty taker. Its not like he is aimlessly smashing it into the roof of the net like a lot of players (like Barry at Villa), total accuracy and looks very confident.
