International breaks are the bane of a Fantasy manager’s life. Every day we brace ourselves for reports of withdrawals and possible injury scares and today is no exception. Marouane Fellaini has picked up a knee problem, Robert Snodgrass and Romelu Lukaku both have ankle worries, while Winston Reid awaits results of a back scan…

Reports suggest Marouane Fellaini could be set to miss the next three weeks with a knee problem. The midfielder is said to have picked up the injury in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Wigan and has since undergone scans with the Belgium medics – he is now out of his nation’s upcoming games and would be regarded as a real doubt for the Toffees Gameweek 8 trip to QPR if the initial prognosis proves correct.

There is now a wash of reports following the breaking news late last night but Everton are yet to comment on the story, which was published initially on the Belgian FA website. Any confirmed absence would surely prompt significant sales across the Fantasy games. Fellaini has risen to 7.3 from 6.5 in FPL after grabbing three goals in the first five Gameweeks – owned by over 31% of Fantasy managers, he has a strong upcoming schedule which could afford plenty opportunity to rack up the points should be overcome the problem in time for the Loftus Road clash on Sunday October 21.

Robert Snodgrass has been ruled out of the Scotland squad due to an ankle problem. The injury was kept under wraps at the weekend –an unused sub for the game at Chelsea due to the problem, Snodgrass’ omission was generally assumed to be tactical. Having started the Canaries’ first six games this season, the former Leeds man has been a crucial component of Chris Hughton’s first-team – today’s news at least eased fears that he has become prone to rotation under the new manager.

Goran Popov has again reiterated his desire to nail down the left-back role for West Brom. The on-loan defender revealed yesterday:

“I want more than a year. My future is here, I don’t want to go back. So for me it is important now to play and show that I am good enough to stay in English football. I would like to stay here after this year. This is my future and I am thinking like that. That’s why I came here. If I wanted to be back in Kiev I wouldn’t have come here. I came here because I know I can play here. We have spoken about it and the club have said if I do well here this year I can sign for one or two years more.”

Popov has stepped in for the injured Liam Ridgewell over the last couple of matches but the former Birmingham is now afforded the fortnight international break to recover in time for the Gameweek 8 home showdown with City. Having been handed a first-team opportunity, Popov is likely to find out where he stands in the pecking order if Ridgewell returns to fitness – while the Macedonian’s cheaper cost is more appealing from Fantasy perspective, he’s likely to be hard pushed to keep Ridgewell out of Steve Clarke’s starting line-up.

Elsewhere for the Baggies, Romelu Lukaku has pulled out of the Belgium squad ahead of the upcoming internationals. The forward, who made his sixth sub appearance of the season in the weekend win over QPR, has sustained an ankle problem.

Winston Reid has delayed heading off on international duty with New Zealand as he awaits the results of back scans. The centre-half suffered muscle spasms during the Hammers’ 3-1 defeat against Arsenal on Saturday evening – James Tomkins stepped off the bench to replace the Kiwi in Gameweek 6 and would be set to step in if Reid has suffered any injury.

      From the HELP:

      Wildcards

A Wildcard allows you to make unlimited free transfers throughout a Gameweek. You can use up to 2 a season.

Playing a wildcard will remove any points deductions from transfers already made in the same Gameweek.

One wildcard can be played at any time. The January Wildcard can only be used after Gameweek 21 starts (1 Jan 11:30) until Gameweek 24 ends (2 Feb 11:30); as the January wildcard isn't available until after the Gameweek 21 deadline, the earliest these transfers will be active is Gameweek 22.

When playing a Wildcard, any saved free transfers will be lost. You will be back to the usual 1 free transfer the following Gameweek.

I completely dismissed him earlier in the season but if you look at Fulham's options Duff is basically their most creative/forward-minded midfielder. It surprised me that he was scoring goals but there are actually not many others in that midfield who will...in that sense he actually looks like a decent shout. He's an unfashionable pick but up against Nolan would he be worth it for 2 fixtures?

Perhaps. I remember the days when I had both Dunn and Duff in my fantasy football team. Think it was BBC fantasy football!

Berba is still the main attraction from Fulham though so I'd never consider him unless I'd totally ruled out Berba for some reason.

It won't necessarily be Granero - it might be Ramirez if he's fit, for example. But I like those QPR fixtures. Granero has been on my watchlist since he signed. If he looks to be playing far enough forward he's got easily enough talent to do well FPL-wise. QPR's fixtures have been horrible and they have a good squad.

Giroud has also been on my watchlist since he signed and AFC is the one thing I know a good deal about. 21 goals last season, 2nd only to Benzema in the France squad. It's not that much of a punt.

Morning peeps, stuck on what direction to go next with my team:

    Begovic, Jaas
    Baines, Rafael, Hughes, Demel, Barnett
    Hazard, Cazorla, Pienaar, Michu, Kaca
    Ba, Jelavic, VP

0.2m in the bank and 1ft

Is Hazard -> Bale the obvious transfer?

For sure. There have been hints of a template front three but they dissolved pretty quickly when it became clear how many viable options there were.

I think he's overpriced for the points he will bring this season and I got rid of him to be able to get bigger hitting midfielders.

But I'm nowhere near as certain of myself as some others on here and every Utd game is really nervy.

I can see him getting the sack. Similar to AVB at Chelsea, he's trying to force his style onto the team too quickly. They are a real mess when they try to pass out of tricky situations. Not sure many of them have the passing ability to play his style either. He would be a great successor to Wenger.

Anybody sorting out their 5th mid this week and opting for Noble ahead of Sterling?

I know he's been disappointing so far but he will get penalties and a few assists with Carroll there. Seems a stronger option than Sterling to me due to playing every minute, being on all set-pieces which the Hammers thrive on and the ease at which you can bench him for any fixture. SOT looks more appealing than RDG to me too (playing him this week).

Fletcher is at home in a derby (?) and is going to score.

      RVP is going to score.

      Mata is playing Spurs away.

      Talked you out of it?

They are decent long-term moves but not this week. Also not sure you'd want Berba over Fletcher mid-term, look at his fixtures from gw10 compared to Fletcher's!

      Fellaini -> Nolan?

Have Nolan, considering Fellaini to Ramirez if he's fit...

I think you're right, good long term moves and a big risk for a 4 pointer if they dont pay off. I would like to bring Mata in at some point though so need to work on how to get him in. RvP just using a lot of funds and i don't think he's going to do THAT much better than rooney this year...

Ahh ok. Then get Pienaar. Know its sideways but he is in great form and has great fixtures.

I'm worried about RVP a bit too but cannot see any point switching to Rooney at the moment - maybe once gw11 rolls around and he looks like getting rotated for the "easy" games we want him for!

What do you think of this team? Suggestions are welcome.

    Jussi - Foster

    Baines - Rafael - Hangeland - Shawcross - Cuellar

Hazard - Cazorla - Bale - Ben Arfa - Sterling

    Suarez - Berbatov - Fletcher

    No money in bank.

^This. And Jussi and Foster combination ain't that good too. Go for Begovic and Foster instead?

Decent. On a WC? If so definately get Wilson ahead of Shawcross and Hughes ahead of Hangeland. Also not sure if Jussi and Foster rotate well - swap one with Begovic, Double Stoke defence looks a great option and I've gone for it myself. Front line and forwards are fine, though I'd take Jelavic over Suarez all day (and they have better fixtures). Bank any money you save for bringing in United players in gw11.

    Maybe Kolorov is indeed nailed:

Manchester City’s coach, David Platt has gone on to admire the dedication and work that Aleksandar Kolarov puts in, and feels that his improved free kicks are a result of his determination and dedication.

The Serbian international has gone on to score from three free kicks this season, with him having found the back of the net against Sunderland, Real Madrid and Aston Villa.

This improved free kick ability is not down to chance, as Platt has revealed that the full back has been putting in extra hours after practice to perfect his trade.

“Ally deserves the goals he has got in the last few weeks from set-pieces because he has religiously, three times a week, stayed out for 10 minutes and he keeps putting them in,” Platt told reporters.

“Ask Richard Wright – he has got a bad back from picking them out of the goal! Ally has put a lot of work in on his set-pieces so he deserves the goals he has got.”

Given the fact that the team has Yaya Toure, Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tevez and James Milner, all of whom can take a decent free kick, it has been revealed that the management has left it to the players to decide who will be taking the free kicks from here on.

“We won’t tell them who should take, because it depends where it is, where the keeper sets his wall up, whether it is close enough to the goal or far enough away,” he added.

This season, Kolarov has looked to be a highly improved player. The full back’s performances have been so impressive, that he often sees himself playing further up the pitch, as opposed to playing all the way in the back.

What’s interesting about his performances is the fact that he is scoring goals, picking up assists and keeping clean sheets, all at the same time.

All in all, Kolarov has finally started to make his mark on the City squad, and this is going to be highly beneficial for the team in the latter stages of the season.

It is now a wait to see just how many free kicks Kolarov scores this season.

OK, now that's got me thinking. Is he worth bringing in at this point? My defence is held together with sellotape right now but I have bags of cash.

If you've got a strong bench (in case he doesn't play), then at 5.7 I reckon he's worth it.

Put it this way, he doesnt play, a sub comes on. you get 2 points. Just pretend City didnt get a clean sheet and Kolo played. Week after u transfer him out.

But cant see it happening with cities fixtures. And his attacking potential(and potential cleanie being City) far exceeds the points you may get from a normal defender say from stoke

No he doesn't. I'd expect that to be the popular move for those who don't already have Nolan or already have Pienaar.

Just been using the comparison tool to see if I could get some answers to the 100 questions in my head. Started with Ba and Jelavic. Interesting reading but one thing i noticed is the defending aerial duels. completely pointless stat but I think there is an error there. Both average 5.3 with 2.0 won but the won percentage is different?

It worries me as to the strength of the rest of the data being shown to me.

One would be 5.25, and the other 5.3 or something like that. They wouldn't be exact values.

Ba averages 5.2857 aerial duels per game, Jelly 5.33.
