In a season where the attacking exploits of a number of defenders have been quick to catch the collective eye, John Arne Riise has remained firmly under the Fantasy radar. Already, we’ve witnessed the unlikely scenario where defenders have returned the highest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points haul in five of the opening seven Gameweeks, with Branislav Ivanovic and Leighton Baines vindicating those who opted for big-money investment at the back:

The Fulham full-back has also impressed going forward. So far, a total of three assists is higher than any other defender, with Riise’s left-flank forays thriving in a team full of attacking menace under Martin Jol. Indeed, only Man United have found the net more times than the Cottagers, with a total of 15 goals on par with the likes of City and Chelsea.

With two clean sheets and a couple of assists in his opening three home games, Riise has so far averaged over seven FPL points per appearance at Craven Cottage as Fulham continue the strong home form produced under Jol last time round. On the road, though, while they have conceded two or more goals in three of their four fixtures, an upturn in attacking intent hints at a cause for optimism – already, they have scored half the number of away goals as they managed last season.

Picking up points at both ends of the pitch, Riise is second only to Damien Duff for points accrued for Fulham this season and he now is faced with an enticing schedule that could well bring him under scrutiny. The Norwegian has three home fixtures in the next five (AVL, EVE, RDG) and also faces a Gameweek 9 trip to a Reading side that have no wins and three points from their opening six fixtures.

Priced at 5.5 in FPL and 6.2 in the Sky Sports game, Riise is the most expensive option amongst Jol’s defence but his displays to date have justified those respective price tags. The left-back should not only comfortably surpass his total of five assist last time round but looks capable of bettering it over the next few Gameweeks, if he can continues in his current rich vein of form.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Interesting reading the posts on here...I play a totally different kind of game to most posters...I play with two keepers (around five mil or lessl)...five defenders (around 5 mill or less)...and two midfielders (again around five mill or less)...and all from different clubs....currently...Caulker/Jenkinson/Sterling/Britton ...players like that..basically as cheap as chips..The remaining six i have in pairs and swap the pairs depending upon the fixture list to ensure each pair is always playing against the weaker teams...especially at home...so Fellaini/Jelavic....Mata/Torres....Bale/defoe...Gerrard/Suarez...Toure/Tevez....It means a lot more transfers but yields a lot more points....and does away with the headache of the semi permanent transfer routine...Thoughts ?

So last weeks team was three defenders (gallas, vertonghen Demel)....Michu (home to Reading)...but the pairs were fellaini/jelavic....Mata/Torres...and Gerrard/Suarez....yield 67 pts....This week it will probably be Mata/torres out for Nolan/Carrol at home to Southampton...Gerrard/Suarez are at home to Reading so they stay and Fellaini/Jelavic are away to QPR so will stay as well (may have to swap Fellaini for Piennar)....The following week i will probably have to change two pairs...Si don't really have a "team" as such...I just chase the easier fixtures in pairs...Doesn't mean i get more points...but it's more exciting (currently 16th/100,000)...joined in a later gameweek...

Previous Game week 6 "pairs" Ben Arfa/Ba instead of Mata/Torres....gave me 88 points...four transfers off that for that week though....just another way of doing it all....

What happens if you take a 4 or 8 point hit and your pair do nothing and another of your pairs fail too? Mightened have happened yet but it's early days

Yeah it does hapen..all the time...But the theory is that your attacking six players (three pairs)...plus maybe a Nolan or Sterling...are always playing against Norwich/Southampton/Reading/QPR/Wigan..or any team likely to leak goals...and by the endof the season your three pairs will have scored more than a static team...although at a massive cost in transfers...well when i say three pairs...i mean pairs from any team in the league...so you don't really have a front six it changes all the time...

just looked at fixtures for this week...likely to go with Gerrard/Suarez (home to Reading...already got them)...Cazorla/Podolski (away at Norwich followed by home to QPR) and Nolan/Carrol (home to Southampton)...4 transfers (1 free)...i'll keep you posted...

+1 I remember watching it a while back. "Michael Britten begins to live in two separate realities after a car accident. In one reality, in which he wears a red wristband, his wife Hannah Britten (Laura Allen) survives the accident, and in the other reality, in which he wears a green wristband, his son Rex Britten (Dylan Minnette) survives. Michael does not know which reality is real, and uses the wristbands to differentiate the two"

    Playing tomorrow:

    Cameroon vs Cape Verde (0:2)
    Niger vs Guinea (0:1)
    Ethiopia vs Sudan (3:5)
    Algeria vs Libya (1:0)

Crowd trouble, including fires being set on the terraces, with fifteen minutes to go. Senegal were 2-0 down on the night and 6-2 down to the Ivory Coast on aggregate.

It's not the first time that there's been crowd trouble in Senegal when the team have failed to qualify for a major competition.

By far. Not caught tonight's yet as missus was watching bloody x factor on the planner. Waiting for tv to be free to get my fix. Such a well written and witty show though (the thick of it, not x factor!)

Silva is more secure than Tevez imo, and Torres will be the lone striker at least until January. That midfield is jam packed too. Silva is much better than Hazard anyways 😀
