Our Friday evening regular makes a welcome return after another fortnight’s interruption due to international fixtures. Last time round, Juan Mata produced the goods, following on from Peter Crouch the previous week – let’s hope our trio of overlooked contenders can live up to our expectations again:

Adel Taarabt

While his consistency and application have been (quite rightly) called into question, there’s no denying the Moroccan is capable of brilliance on his day. Granted, an off-form Taarabt can be no more than a liability but if QPR are to climb the table and claw their way out the relegation zone, his contribution could well be key.

Dropped after the 5-0 opening day hammering at the hands of Swansea, he failed to feature again until Gameweek 6, a victim of Mark Hughes’ continual first-team tinkering. Climbing off the bench at West Ham, Taarabt gave the R’s a brief glimpse of hope with an outstanding finish before fellow-sub Samba Diakite’s dismissal swung the game back in the hosts’ favour. Handed a start in the following game, he again produced, grabbing another eye-catching goal in the narrow 3-2 defeat at the Hawthorns.

This weekend Taarabt squares up to an Everton defence with just one clean sheet in their last six matches – as Hughes looks to arrest a run of games that has produced just two points all season, his reliance on the Moroccan to fire his side to victory at Loftus Road could hardly be greater. Priced at 5.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 5.2 in the Sky Sports game, and with an ownership of 1% in both games, Taarabt looks an intriguing proposition heading into this weekend’s round of matches.

Olivier Giroud

Having rolled out a Watchlist article earlier in the international break, our faith in Arsenal’s summer signing from Montpellier shows little sign of wavering. Handed a first start since the Gameweek 3 trip to Liverpool last time round, Giroud vindicated Arsene Wenger’s decision by grabbing a goal, assist and the maximum FPL bonus points in the Gunners’ 3-1 comeback win at Upton Park. Factor in a last-gasp equaliser in France’s midweek draw in Spain and it seems he’s finally hitting the form that produced 21 goals in Ligue 1 in the previous campaign.

Earlier today, Wenger praised his compatriot’s recent performances, going on to say:

“There are two things when you are a striker. First, I’m always worried when a striker doesn’t have chances. In his case, he always had chances in every single game and couldn’t convert them into goals. The conversion rate goes in cycles. Once a player starts to score, suddenly he takes off for a while and suddenly it stops again [and] nobody has really found out why. I hope he’s at the start of a good cycle.”

Certainly, the omens look good. The north London outfit travel to Carrow Road tomorrow to face a Norwich side that has shipped nine goals in their last two matches before playing host to QPR the following weekend. Priced at 8.4 in FPL and 8.7 in the Sky Sports game and with an ownership of 1% in both games Giroud looks a real differential contender over the next couple of Gameweeks and an ideal acquisition for those Fantasy managers looking for something different for their three-man forward lines.

Leon Osman

Today’s confirmation that Marouane Fellaini will miss the trip to Loftus Road has played a part in our final selection. Osman’s recent central midfield role has somewhat curtailed his attacking endeavours – so far, he’s found the next just once, with Fellaini and Steven Pienaar hogging the midfield limelight around Goodison way instead.

The Belgian’s absence at Loftus Road, however, could prove the spark Osman needs to fire his Fantasy season back into life. With the role in “the hole” behind Nikica Jelavic now up for grabs, Osman may well be the one to move forward and provide the Croatian with support. Priced at 6.3 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, he is owned by less than 1% of Fantasy managers in both games; there’s no doubt he’s a major punt but, bearing in mind QPR have conceded 16 goals already, Osman could pay off for those who fancy a real gamble.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Defender to get in for the next few fixtures? 6.5 to spend. I am actually thinking Huth. Other options, Lescott, Vertonghan, Wilson...

I'm in the same boat, and it's really between Huth and Vertonghen I think. I can see Vertonghen getting a few more attacking points, but Huth more clean sheets. At the end of the day, I think they'll produce similar points over their nice run of games, so I'm going Huth cause he saves me a bit of moolah. 🙂

Leaning that way aswell. I do worry about Stokes CS potential though, are they really much tighter than last season or have they just been sitting back becasue of the tough opposition. You'd think they'd be more adventurous in upcoming fixtures against the lesser sides.

I see what you mean, but Stoke never struck me as the most adventurous of teams. 🙂
If they're solid against the big teams, I don't see why they can't be as solid or more so against worse opposition.

I think I'm going to have to play HBA and bench Sterling, sure I could live to regret it but HBA has history of big scores and Sterling...well he's had 2 assists so far...and is 17...I can probably live with not getting his 5 points right?

mid to front is as follows:

    Bale Hazard Pienaar HBA Sterling
    RVP Suarez Graham

so you would need mata & berbs to score 4 more than hazard & graham to make it worthwhile. seems risky. graham has a good fixture and since you have kept him this long might as well wait until next week and do the transfers for free. i have a feeling berbs doesn't play the whole game and what if he re-injures the hip? wait and see for me.

Please pick 1 of the following NOT to play:

    Hangerland (VILLA)
    Lescott (wba)
    Jenkinson (norwich)

    I don't think there's much separating them....thoughts?

    Jaaski...Begovic
    Baines...Vertonghen...Ivanovic...(wilson/fonte)
    Michu...Pienaaar...HBA...Nolan...Morrison
    Jelavic...Ba...Suarez.....(0.2)

So that's me playing the doubling game on easy fixtures
son no1 playing all the Belgians + 5
son two picking only English players
son three picking crocks to increase the value
and the wife picking only players with stripey jumpers

    Foster (Fed)
    Baines Ivan Hughes (McCart, Cuellar)
    Pienaar Michu Hazard Gervinho (Noble)
    Pod Tevez Torres.

2 FT, looking at using one, Hazard to Cazorla.
It's massively following the pack, looks good, but I'll have 3 ARS, so maybe think again?

Will probably take Gerv/Pod out soon anyway.

Got rid of Tevez on my wildcard and have now brought in Nasri. What am I doing?

Really? With Sunderland creating very few chances though being fairly tight at the back at home and with Newcastle's first choice defence all back I figured it could be quite low scoring.

I have to use a FT to field an acceptable defence.

I am uncertain if I wanted Berba for longer than AVL and rea, after that it is a grim run of games.

Yes. This is one of the good weeks to have Tevez, he is possible captain material. I'd bench Sterling as he is not a proven point getter and is only a cheap option anyway. After that then Hazard with a tough fixture.

    My current WC draft:

    Jaaskelainen
    Jenkinson, Rafael, Baines
    Bale, Michu, Pienaar, Santi Cazorla
    Van Persie (C), Berbatov, Ba

    Subs: Begovic, Sterling, Demel, Caulker

How is it looking? I'm tempted to play Sterling since Pool have Reading but wouldn't know who to drop. On paper it should be Bale as Spurs have Chelsea, but that's crazy talk right?

Ditch Jenks for Hughes? Will be rotated/dropped shortly and Norwich could well sneak one.

Otherwise looking great, maybe consider doubling up on Stoke defence (Wilson) for their great run of fixtures - rotates well with Hughes too.

It is very close to mine, which may be why I'm so gushing, though I am punting on Giroud for 2 weeks before switching back to Ba.

I'd prob go Schwarzer, he's at home vs Villa wo are struggling for goals and Fulham are strong at home

Arsenal do seem more solid but wouldn't surprise me if Norwich got a late goal, Holt off the bench or somet

Good morning everyone. How are we all feeling? So glad the international break is over and no injuries! Do you think this is the right team lineup?

    Jaaskelainen

    Baines, Ivanovich, Rangel

    Bale, Hazard, Michu, Cazorla (VC)

    Ba, Fletcher, Berbatov(C)

    Subs: Ruddy, Pienaar, Jenkinson, Nelsen

Annoyingly, I can see pretty much everyone on my bench getting points. Should I drop some of the "bigger names" for those with better fixtures?

Sunderland v Newcastle is likely to be low scoring and if you ask me who will likely to score between Ba and Fletcher I would say Ba. I will play Jenkinson over Ivanovic 🙂 There will be lots of goals on that London Derby 😀
