A fine Norwich performance has Arsenal slip to defeat at Carrow Road to deliver a hugely frustrating end to Saturday’s Gameweek 8 action. Here’s part two of today’s Stock Check…

On the Up

The Norwich Defence
Budget back fours continue to attract interest as expensive options fail to produce shut-outs and are forced to fall back on attacking returns. Chris Hughton’s side had showed promise following their opening day drubbing and demonstrated this again tonight with a gritty display. Their fixtures could be worse and the likes of John Ruddy may now earn some attention.

Grant Holt
A third consecutive goal for last season’s leading scorer at Carrow Road. Holt, at last, looks to have cemented his start in Hughton’s lineup and could yet offer some value as a budget striker option this term.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Having started the season so strongly, with three consecutive clean sheets, the Gunners’ backline has failed to keep a shut-out since Gameweek 3. Over 50% of the Fantasy Premier League player base owns an Arsenal defender, with Carl Jenkinson the most popular option, but confidence in Wenger’s rearguard is diminishing by the week.

Vito Mannone
Any claims that Mannone had to the Arsenal number one jersey surely suffered irreparable damage this evening with a shaky performance and the error for the Norwich goal. Wojciech Szczesny may well be several weeks from fitness but he will surely be restored to the lineup once fit.

Santi Cazorla
The Spaniard failed to spark the Gunners this time, falling victim to bitterly disappointing performance from Wenger’s side which showed little in terms of goal threat. The recent clamour for Cazorla will see plenty frustrated this evening but the Gunners do at least have three home games in four to come in which the playmaker will be backed for profit.

Gervinho
Deployed on the flank once again, Gervinho epitomised Arsenal’s showing with ineffective display. His owners will now hope for a shift back to a central attacking role for Arsenal’s forthcoming fixtures but at least the injury suffered to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain could strengthen the Ivorian’s chances of retaining his starting role.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Anyone watching the Utd - Stoke game, is Rooney playing deeper am really considering RVP to Rooney as that money will come in handy elsewhere, is Rooney the better value?

      Today's game is hard one to judge. The United attacking 4 (Rooney, RvP, Welbeck and Valencia) all seemed to have free roles. When I saw the team I expected RvP up top with Rooney behind, Valencia right and Welbeck left.

      But RvP drifted wide left with Welbeck going up top a lot, he also appeared on the right with Rooney up top and Valencia behind. For me the thing that swings it in RvPs favour is that he is on pens.

          In addition, although Rooney was the key today, he was involved in literally everything, RvP is still the man Fergie wants as his lead striker, the team is being build around him, with Scholes and Rooney to supply the bullets through the middle and Valencia (when he re-discovers his form) from out wide. IMO these factors will only increase RvP's output. If there was a way to accommodate both RvP and Rooney (who i still think will get 15-20 goals this year) then I would try and find it

            I currently have Caz Sterling Mata Felliani and Dyer - alternatively I can get Lennon in

    So who is the better player for £4.8m, Noble or Sterling? Noble on free kicks, corners and PK, Sterling plays in a much more attacking position for a very hit and miss team.

    Also, Nolan or Pienaar? Nolan is cheaper but much more of a goal threat though less of an assist threat.

    Jussi, Fed

    Santi, Bale, Pienaar, Michu, Guthrie
    Rvp, Tevez, Berbatov

    Would like to get dead wood out, team value up and some newcastle cover + Mr Mata.
    Michu, Tevez => Mata, Ba could be done for a hit, but not sure it's worth it.

    Hi all,

    Havn't been on this in a long time cos I've been busy with work. Looking at my options here;

    I am definitely going to go Hazard -> Bale as planned. Nut thinking of doing one of the following for a hit too.

    A) Lambert -> Crouch
    B) Lambert -> Berbatov
    C) Michu -> Walters.

    Thinking of going for A at the moment because you can't ignore Stokes upcoming run of fixtures. Thoughts?

          Bale requires -4 and leaves me with literally no money left (I'd have to go like for like on Ramirez to another 6 million or less mid). Getting Lennon leaves me more cash to play with. Lennon has been in great form. The major difference is you wouldn't captain Lennon. I suppose I could get Snodgrass and Bale, but Snodgrass being benched today is worrying

    2 fellaini to 5.5 left in bank thinking routledge?? unsure

      Fergie hasn't done anything wrong here. He has a gripe with Ferdinand because he recognises the utter pointlessness of Ferdinand's stand against Racism. Ferdinand is powerless...as are we all...in stopping racist incidents. What we can do is raise awareness...the idea of boycotting an anti-racist campaign is barmy. What if there was no movement like this? Would Rio prefer this? Is it better to have no campaign?

      It is not the campaign's job to stop racism...it is to make it clear to people that racism is unacceptable.

        Kicking out racism is just a slogan. Do you really think you can kick racism out of anything? It's a metaphor. It's not a hardline LETS CATCH THE RACISTS IN A NET and ROUND THEM UP AND SHOOT THEM campaign...it's a reminder that racism is still prevalent among the uncivilised. Therefore let's not do that. Not wearing a t-shirt is a joke beyond all jokes...stop being an arse Rio!

    Mostly considering Pogrebnyak and Lambert. Lambert got 5 home games the next 8 games. Pogrebnyak is extremely cheap and playable in the next 6 games. Downside with Pog is that Reading is shit. And Lambert doesn't seem nailed on.

    How many players do u reckon most teams have left?

    I've got Baines, Pienaar and Fletcher. I presume the only other fantasy relevant guys left are Ba and Jelavic and HBA

    Do you think I should wc?

    current team:

    Jussi – Federici

    Ivan – Rangel – Baines – Demel – Nelsen

    Santi – Barfa – Michu – Fellaini – Kaca

    RVP – Suarez – Berbatov

    my wc team would be:

    Jussi – Bego

    Baines – Wilson – Nelsen – Fonte – Gorkss

    Santi – Mata – Bale – Barfa – Sterling

    Aguero – Defoe – Crouch (4m in bank for Defoe -> Rooney transfer gw11.)

    What's with all the Walters love? Last time I checked he was overweight and Champoinship material.

        Are you sure Adam won't take the pens? U had Walters last season and his pens was all power and often pure luck.

      I'd highly advise getting in RVP for GW11+

      Captain material pretty much every week...

        i know, but ba has good fixtures, and caz and ivan are good picks, so taking them out is a little risky
