[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that our Suspension Tightrope widget has made a return to your sidebars. This handy little tool lists those players on the cusp of a one-match ban as a result of receiving five domestic bookings before the curfew date of December 31…

Right now we have eight candidates performing a balancing act, with three standout names amongst them.

Marouane Fellaini has been a hugely popular Fantasy acquisition this term and, while he could possibly be in line for a return from injury against Liverpool this weekend, he is just one yellow card from a suspension, having earned three Premier League bookings and a Capital One Cup caution. A comeback in a stormy Merseyside derby may just be enough to topple the Belgian and see him miss Everton’s trip to Fulham.

Swansea’s Michu is another mid-price midfielder who has gathered many Fantasy suitors and, with a new role up front in Michael Laudrup’s lineup, looks set to continue on the ascent. With four bookings (including a Capital One yellow) a potential one-match ban could derail matters, however. His owners will be hoping the Spaniard can pick up that caution at City this weekend; this would mean he misses the Capital One Cup tie with Liverpool on October 29, to be available for the home league clash with Chelsea. That would be, errr…rather convenient.

Fellow Swan, Angel Rangel is also one match from a ban and could also do with picking that booking up this weekend so that he can also make the Chelsea game. With tough fixtures to come, his absence will perhaps be less of a factor for Fantasy managers and we’re set to see continued sales in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) regardless of a ban. With that in mind and a price drop from 5.1 in FPL likely at some point in the coming weeks, it might be a good time to plan the escape route.

In terms of existing bans, we know that Steven Pienaar is certainly ruled out of Sunday’s Merseyside derby, with Everton unable to appeal his red for two bookable offences. City will be without James Milner for the visit of Swansea with a one-match ban dished out for his red for denying a goalscoring opportunity at the Hawthorns. John Terry has two league matches of his four-match ban to serve, while Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote is the latest player to earn a three-match ban for dangerous foul play – he’ll miss league matches with West Brom, Liverpool and West Ham.

Lee Cattermole served out his three-match ban against Newcastle and will be available to Martin O’Neill for the trip to Stoke this weekend.

As always, these bans can be found in our Injuries and Bans table. We’ll be updating the tightrope widget every week from this point on, and bringing you our regular article summing up the new arrivals and the suspensions being served.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

yeah I agree. A rival has just got Lallana in, so that rules him out. Only nailed on Norwich mid seems to Johnson, and he's not worth it. Might have to bite the bullet and just get HBA or take the chance om Snodgrass and hope. Problem is I'm going away for the weekend on Friday so I will have to make my transfers Thursday night or Friday morning. May have to hope we get some news on him before I have to leave on Friday

The guaranteed starters are looking a bit boring this week. The people I'd actually like to bring in this week are

    Kolarov
Aguero (depressing lack of guaranteed starts)
    Gibbs (is he injured?)
    Sagna (ditto)
    Defoe (Ade)
    ... Richards. What a beast.

If Kolarov only started 50% of games do you think he would still be worth it? I wonder if he would. The reason is I see that as okay and Dzeko not is that another defender can sub on for him, and he gets less late cameos.

With a high team value I'd consider it. Actually got the 'Kolarov feeling' at about 11am the week of his big score but told myself it was the massive hangover and how it would be a hit to get him in and another to get him out. Was most disappointed.

Well making the bench is good news. I'm glad he didn't play as he usually gets hot-headed in those derbies. I'd imagine he will have to start playing with Gardner only being a make shift right back. But to be honest Gardner hasn't played badly at all. If Bardsley starts against Stoke then I don't see MON going back on his decision to play a proper right back. However MON also has a thing about playing the same team as long as they're doing ok. He's not one to tinker with it.

Gardner probably played well enough to deserve another start. Have you got Bardsley currently? It's a tough one to call as even Colback can play right back...which he did later on in the game as Gardner moved to centre mid I think to attack.

Yeah he likes shooting and is good for a goal every now and again. Only access to a Sunderland defensive attacking threat really...As Rose is classed as a midfielder.

Tbh there's only 2 juicy games for Pienaar until the fix turns sour and he's not explosive.

I'd keep Michu. Scored 2 at the Bernabeu last year.

both bale and Mata have great form atm dude. Doesn't mean shit though as they could both have quiet games at any time but you know that anyway, Just so happens that bale has a couple of decent fixtures as well. Mata scored 13 points at home to United last year and has scored big against both Arsenal and Spurs this year to fixtures not necessarily a problem for him.

Defoe is pretty pants anyway. Wont get you explosive scores with Ade around either. And if Bale is going to do much in terms of goals surely that hinders Defoes returns. Only so many goals you can score in one game and there is plenty of goalscorers in that spurs team. Defoe also is anti-Baps with all his shots off target. And with so many shots off target...is he really doing the business in any case...?

If Defoe isn't doing the business then I guess all but about 4 strikers in the country aren't doing the business. His consistency has been remarkable. Great finisher, mysteriously maligned at both club and country level for so long. I suspect he would have to change his name and nationality to get any credit from some pundits.
