A busy day packed full of articles is brought to a close by our Friday evening regular. As always, we roll out a trio of overlooked alternatives ahead of tomorrow morning’s 11.30 deadline, with only one of our featured three owned by more than 1% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers…

Arouna Kone

Wigan’s summer signing from Levante arrived at the DW with plenty expectation heaped on his shoulders. Kone produced 15 goals and four assists in a sensational La Liga campaign last term, helping his side upset the odds and earn a sixth place finish in the Spanish top flight. So far, the Ivorian has been key to the Latics’ attacking forays, playing a part in five of their eight strikes, with three goals and a couple of assists already accrued.

In the FPL game, the 6.5 priced Kone has resultantly racked up 35 points, earning almost five points per start, but, despite returning a point more than the likes of Nikica Jelavic, Kone has an ownership of just 0.8%. In the Sky Sports game, he also has impressed – priced at 7.7, he is joint-fifth for forwards, with 41 points already returned. Further analysis of the stats shows Kone has been involved in four of Wigan’s five home goals this term – with visitors West Ham failing to keep a clean sheet in each of their last four matches, the Ivorian could be a decent punt this weekend for those Fantasy managers looking for something a little different for their third striker slot.

Samir Nasri

With David Silva ruled out due to a hamstring problem and Yaya Toure likely to play deeper due to injuries and suspensions to others, we’re rolling the dice on the Frenchman ahead of City’s home clash against Swansea. The former Arsenal man has only started two home league matches this term, with wildly contrasting fortunes; the season opener with Southampton harvested a goal, assist and maximum bonus points for a 12 point FPL haul, while QPR’s visit to the Etihad in Gameweek 3 resulted in nothing more than a two point return.

Nasri brings decent form into the Swans’ showdown tomorrow evening, though; having recently returned from a hamstring injury, he grabbed his side’s only goal in Wednesday’s disappointing defeat at Ajax. Fantasy managers may have doubts over Roberto Mancini’s starters up front for this one but Nasri looks nailed-on to begin the game; priced at 8.2 in FPL and 7.6 in the Sky Sports game, he has just 4.8% ownership and could flourish against a side that has shipped an average of two goals per game over the last six fixtures, as the champions go in search of their fourth straight victory.

Brett Holman

Finally, we end on a real punt; the Australian international is the definition of a differential, with a mere 0.1% FPL ownership thus far. Holman – who arrived in England on the back of a campaign that harvested four goals and 10 assists for AZ Alkmaar in 2011/12 – has yet to produce any attacking returns this term but, both in terms of creativity and threat, has been one of Aston Villa’s most impressive performers so far ; a fact acknowledged by Paul Lambert only a fortnight ago, with the former Norwich boss saying:

“Brett’s been unlucky not to score, but he’s playing really, really well at this time. He’s not shy to have a shot on goal and he’s a creative player. I always think if creative players can make things happen and score a goal or maybe slide the odd ball through, then you’ve got a player on your hands. It’s important we share the goals around. We need that threat but Brett’s all-round game is good at the minute, really good. He’s got energy to burn, and he’s a top lad as well. If he keeps going the way he’s going he’ll have a really good season. He’s got a great desire for the game, a great enthusiasm for the game. Aston Villa are fortunate to have him.”

Priced at 5.6 in FPL and 5.7 in the Sky Sports game, Holman plays host to a Norwich City side that have conceded 11 goals in their first four games on the road. If Lambert is to get the better of his former employers, tomorrow would be the perfect time for the summer signing to start producing.

Having major captain conundrum. Probably toughest of the season so far. Looked at the poll and just don't know if Cazorla is the one. Who would ou hand the armband to:

    a) Bale
    b) Ba
    c) Cazorla
    d) Hazard
    e) RVP
    f) Baines
    g) Berbatov

I do. I will likely change to Ba after this week. It was always a 2 week punt, which I hope still turns out alright. You'll want to keep Jelly long term, whereas Giroud isn't a long term prospect yet.

Similar thinking here too! Two week punt it was.
The reasons why I thought of taking out RVP was:
            A) RVP now has competition from Rooney(though people may argue it'll increase his chances!)
            B) Has two tough fixtures, even though fixtures hardly matter to him.
            C) Might get him back in two weeks for Giroud again!

Giroud>KUN(C). To hell with the -4 point hit you took, hes not nailed on and doesnt produce much, with tough fixture coming up, dont see why you still want him in your team.

i looked at your team page. wow, two weeks ago, we were ranked at 300K range, me a little higher, in 2 weeks youve shot up to top 30k, really all in one gw, last gw, you smashed it. meanwhile i fell to 500k.

I am not going to tell you anything you do not know already. Kun might just get 20min cameo. Just too risky for a (c) choice! Newcastle has scored 9 goals this seaon. Ba has either scored or assisted in 7 of them.

Unfortunately, I do not have Ba. He is in my plans either next week or the week after. Giving Berba another 2.

Thoughts on this potential WC, would be for next week, not this one. I want to use it aggressively to make gains between now and January.

Made a few, unusual selections (and risks)

    De Gea*, Begovic

    Wisdom*, Cuellar, Sagna, Baines, Wilson

    Mata, Hazard, Cazorla, Morrison, Lallana

    Rooney, Berbatov, Pogrebynak*

*De Gea to rotate with Begovic, both have great fixtures coming up.

*Wisdom as temporary cover for some decent fixtures, will be switched for Hughes when he gets dropped.

    *Pog, very cheap bench fodder.

Hazard and Mata may look odd, but umm, look at points production I suppose. If Cazorla does not sort it out soon, Silva could be a possible replacement when fit.

Dropping Ba, I know, shock horror. I really like him as well, but Newcastle ain't the same team as last year and he is the only one producing in that attack.

    Thoughts?

Yea get rid of De Gea. Been down that road, it's not pretty. Lindegaard will spring up again. I think your forward line is a bit weak as well. I would rather have just one chelsea mid and either bale or cazorla.

Why did you drop Ba? "he is the only one producing in that attack." Isn't that a good thing?

Your probably right about De Gea, I also took that route before.

Bale and Evans instead of Hazard and Cuellar probably is a more prudent route.

Ba is very, very good. Not worried about him and he is very much a player to have but not a must have in a team that don't score many (happily when they do, he does).

I dont own him but looking at his fixtures I wouldnt be too happy owning him. I'd keep him this week and perhaps for Everton at home, but after that I'd ship him

I gave him 3 days during my wild card tinkering, not rushing to get him back. If I had him I'd hang on another week or 2

    Bego -Foster

    Demel - McAuley - Caulker - (Nelsen) - (Gibbs)

    Dempsey - Cazorla - Michu - Sterling - (Pienaar)

    RVP - Tevez - Jelavic

    0.8 in bank. 1 FT

    Was thinking,
    Demel > Defender
    or
    Tevez > Ba

    Thoughts on this?

Wouldnt bother with removing Demel, seems a waste. Definitely dont remove Tevez just before he's is nailed on to start against a very ropey Swansea team either.

I would personally do Dempsey>Bale just so I had a nailed on Spurs ATT coverage foir their next 2......or I would save my transfer

Aguero owner here.. you'd think he start, but Mancini seems to have reverted back to his rotation ways and subsequently, I can see a Tevez/Balotelli partnership up front so although its definitely tempting to captain him, I'm gonna gamble with my players not my captaincy and go for Ba (c) myself.

i think its risky. worst thing to see is the lineup and your capt is on the bench. i think with bale you wont have to worry about that

Not sure who to take Rangel out for.

Newcastle defender - Simpson/Santon OR for a stoke defender in Wilson. Thoughts?

Yep. I'm not sure if they're worth the extra money though? Huth had one break-through season like Hangeland in terms of goals and by getting Wilson it saves 1.0 mil to invest elsewhere.. so you reckon Stoke's the way to go though?

Their fixtures are fantastic and whilst Huth and Shawcross haven't done much recently their goal threat makes them a decent prospect. You can start them every week for a couple of months to come which is worth the piece of mind.

OK, here it is...I'm gonna do one of those 'Rate My Team' requests. Big news. Here it is in all its wildcard glory:

    Ruddy / Begovic
    Wilson / Gorkss / Cuellar / Rafael / Vertonghen
Bale / Fellaini / Mata / Sterling / Santi Cazorla
    Ba / Berbatov / Aguero

0.9 in the bank for an Aguero to Rooney switcheroo in a couple of weeks time. Could also downgrade Vert to get RVP and A.N. Other.

    What you good people think?

It is not necessarily safe, because if City get off to a so-so start then Tevez is always a sub risk in the 65th minute for one of the other strikers City has on the bench. But it is a reasonable risk and captain differential. If you feel it...keep it!

While Tevez may come good the next few weeks, Mancini rotation is the sure path to the FPL insane asylum. Spare the headaches and go with Ba who is guranteed 90 minutes and in on everything good that Newcastle are doing...This move holds much more appeal than sifting for a 4.9 defender IMO.
