Fantasy Football Scout are pleased to announce the seventh instalment of the open-to-all, free-to-enter Paddy Power Cup competition.

Organised and run by contributors “Akers” and “Superior Being”, this is your chance to join our previous winners – donnellyc, Jonty, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints, sleepingmaster and reigning champion Mch – in our hall of fame. For full details on how to enter, when it starts and the prizes on offer, read on…

We’re changing the format of our cup tournaments this season – instead of three cup competitions that overlap, we’ll be running this first Paddy Power Cup, the Members Cup and then a first Fantasy Football Scout Shield. This final tournament will take place over the final four Gameweeks of the season and includes just 16 teams – the Quarter-Finalists from both the Paddy Power and the Members Cup. There’s therefore extra incentive to enter and do well in our first two tournaments.

Read on for details on the Paddy Power cup but, if you’re a veteran, you can go straight here to make your entry.

What is the Paddy Power Cup?

The Paddy Power Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Manager highest in the overall standing will progress.

When does it start?

The qualifying round takes place in Gameweek 10 but you can enter after the Gameweek is played out. All entries received before Monday November 5 will be entered into the qualifying round. In this first cup competition we will have 1024 qualifiers for the first round – those 1018 (plus 6 previous winners who earn a bye) with the top scores in Gameweek 10 will progress to the first round proper to be played in Gameweek 11. Again, FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions.

How do I enter?

Simply fill out the entry form here. You will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry. You can also check that you are entered via this list.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying round will be published on Tuesday November 6

What is the Gameweek Schedule

Each round of the Paddy Power Cup will be played out over the following schedule:

  • Qualifying – Gameweek 10
  • Round 1 – 1024 teams – Gameweek 11
  • Round 2 – 512 teams – Gameweek 12
  • Round 3 – 256 teams – Gameweek 13
  • Gameweek 14 – Break
  • Round 4 – 128 teams – Gameweek 15
  • Round 5 – 64 teams – Gameweek 16
  • Round 6 – 32 teams – Gameweek 17
  • Round 7 – 16 teams – Gameweek 18
  • Gameweek 19 – Break
  • Quarter-Finals – 8 teams – Gameweek 20
  • Gameweek 21 – Break
  • Semi-Finals – 4 teams – Gameweek 22
  • The Final – 2 teams – Gameweek 23

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round will be published a day or two before each Gameweek deadline.

Are there prizes?

Sponsors Paddy Power are supplying the competition with some great prizes and we’re supplementing these with Amazon Vouchers. The prizes break down as follows:

Winner – £100 worth of free bets. £100 Amazon Voucher
Runner-up – £50 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £25 Amazon Voucher

In addition, the Quarter-Finalists from this tournament will gain entry to the Fantasy Football Scout Shield where they will play the eight Quarter-Finalists from this season’s Members Cup. Should any team qualify for the Shield from both Cup tournaments, then the highest scoring losing team from the last sixteen of either cup will gain entry to complete the FFS Shield entries.

Cup Entrants will need a Paddy Power account and be aged 18 or over to be eligible for some of the above prizes. Prizes are also subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. You can, of course, enter without being over 18 and without a Paddy Power account but will not be eligible for the free bet prizes.

If you’ve yet to register a Paddy Power account, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Jaask, Jones*
    Sagna*, Clichy, Huth, Caulker*, McCartney*
    Pienaar, Bale*,Mata*,Michu, Sterling
    RVP, Tevez*, Berba

Should I wildcard to this team? New players marked with *. I have Carzola, Hazard and Aguero and feel like knee jerking Haz and Aguero to cheaper options and getting rid of Carzola for Bale.

The only problem in that WC team is who to bench.

Aguero - Tevez is a great move.
Cazorla to Mata/Bale is a great move too but I'd keep Hazard, not a problem to have Mata and Hazard - they'll both outscore Caz anyway.
      Begs is best keeper option
Caulkers looks good but Sagna I'm not sure of....
      I'd have Nelsen before McCartney.

It's not really a bug, just a way of designing it that's not very clear.

What it means in reality is that he rose yesterday and therefore started the day on something like -33 000 NTI, the positive transfers subtracted when counter was reseted to 0.

His real daily NTI is therefore something like 15k

I know it says that on this site...but we are yet to get full proof of it in a match. If that is the case it would nice if Arsenal got a few penalties after the 70min mark as Podolski is usually subbed off by then!

I might be being extremely optimistic but that Ba injury report sounds like good news. I hope it's just something minor. If it turns out he's out for a good while it would be such a blow for Newcastle but also for FPL owners! I've had him since 7.7 so I don't know what I'll do if he's out for an extended period...I might just cry.

I could take one game as I think he's delivered more than enough points to justify hanging onto him.

In other news, Should I get Bale in for Caz just for the Wigan game?

If you don't want him for the longer term I wouldn't bother. I'll happily carry him (and play him) over his two bad fixtures after that, reckon he'll be good value over any given period.

I'm just stuck between wanting to keep faith in Santi and his good fixtures and not wanting Bale's price to become so high I can't afford him without other moves.

It does seem ridiculous to only get Bale for one match...my worry is if I keep Cazorla he's going to start losing value quickly if he doesn't get anything against Man Utd. I'd then be faced with taking a hit to get Bale in for his two nasty away games...it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. Either I stay loyal to Caz or I swap for Bale and stick for a while, right?

Hang onto Caz. You have to realise that Arsenal have only scored one goal in the last three games and normally Caz would have a high goal involvement so once Arsenal pick up their form Cazorla will start to do well again.

Ba: I just got him in but it sounds like one of those injuries that should be ok next week but just take months to get over (a mystery shin nerve problem for FFS!... what is that?).

I expect the worst. Even more worse, he'll be expected back every week for the next 2 months but won't quite make it.

Bale is good, so is Santi.

And Tevez will go up, damn. I currently have Ba and Berbatov and Tevez would be the one I buy in if I downgrade Cazorla at the same time for -4. Anyone in a similar predicament? Is it best to allow Tevez to rise in price this week and wait for more info on the injuries to Ba and Berb?

Ba is just his shin. If berbs has cracked ribs then it may be a few weeks. hopefully just bruised. The kind of bruise that hurts when you laugh.

    Need some help please 🙂

I am doing well (539 points) but I can improve my team further I feel....

    Jaask - Begovic
    Nelsen - Demel - Baines - Ivanovic - Rafael
    Michu - Yaya - Hazard - Duff - Nolan
    Berbatov - Lambert - RVP

I am thinking of taking out Yaya, as he is not VFM for his price and has not scored for ages. Do I bring in Bale or Mata for him (and downgrade say Duff or Rafael)...or Fellaini for Yaya.....I like the idea of Mata, but I will then have the dilema every time Chelsea are at home...do I captain Hazard or Mata....and I am sure I will get the wrong choice more often than not !

    Any thoughts ?

      Bale for Yaya

Duff to Routledge is an option, or cash in on Nolan now, those WH fixtures are horrible looking

Could also downgrade Jaask since you'll prob play Begs for nxt 10 wks anyway.

Valid point but I believe Tevez will still play PL games as they are just as important. CL is almost lost to them now.

They've given up on Champions League. Could well happen that they'll put out weakened teams to finish bottom of the group and avoid the Europa League.

I don't believe this. They will put out very good teams in all competitions, rotating players to suit their needs. No-one gives up on the UCL FFS!

I was listening to the great football expert Noel Gallagher's views ( half Mayo man in fact!) which are above. Good job he's a decent songwriter but even as a City supported doesn't seem to know a lot about football. They've no chance in getting ahead of Dortmund and Ronaldo Madrid. Could pip Ajax to third but won't be easy.If they do go in Europa there'll be even more rotation than CL.

Think I want to get Tevez back in for Fletcher. Best way to generate the 2mil I need?

    A. Downgrade Michu to 5.0 mid.

    B. Ivanovic to 5.0 defender

    C. Jenkinson & Rangel to 4.0 & 3.9 defender.

I think I prefer option C but it takes more transfers and possibly involves a points hit.

Ba and Berba owners should we look to sell one of them for Tevez if we can before the rise? Whats your plan?

Was just thinking about this myself. I have 0.0m in the bank so would have to take a hit, and if I make the move before Tevez's rise, then I'll be able to do:

      GW10: Santi & Ba -> Pienaar & Tevez (4 points)
      GW11: Clyne -> Sagna

Do you reckon this warrants a hit, or should I just bench Ba and play 4-4-2 this week with Clyne(wba) ??

      Jaask, Federici
      Baines, Cuellar, Hughes, McCartney, Clyne
      Bale, Santi, Mata, Michu, Guthrie
      RVP, Ba, Berbatov

Mate what if Berbatov is worse off than Ba? That is the issue really because transfer plans would change due to him being a lot less valuable than Ba.

I think that kinda answers your own question too Ryan! There's too much uncertainty to make a snap decision now.

No, resist the temptation Jinswick - Santi and Ba have nice fixtures coming up.
