Demba Ba’s Fantasy owners were handed plenty to worry about this morning after Alan Pardew admitted the striker faces a real fight to be fit for Sunday’s trip to Liverpool. Speaking this morning, the Newcastle boss went on to say:

“I think he’s 50-50 – at best. We’ve got Papiss back on the goal trail and Shola and Sammy so we’re happy with that. It is very important to have that. Papiss is fit and well and we are looking forward to seeing him this weekend.”

Owned by over 30% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers and 10% in the Sky Sports game, Ba has been in sensational form this season. While Newcastle have scored just 11 times so far, Ba’s input has been absolutely crucial – with seven goals and an assist already racked up, he is the fifth top scoring player in the FPL game and has been awarded more bonus points (14) than any other player.

While Pardew talked up Papiss Cisse, there’s no denying the forward’s goal against West Brom was more than fortunate – the former SC Freiburg man has struggled for form this term, with his strike against the Baggies his first of the season. Considering Hatem Ben Arfa has contributed no more than a single assist in the last six Gameweeks, it’s little wonder Ba’s popularity continues to rise – more than 20,000 FPL managers have already snapped up his services this week; they now face an anxious wait ahead of Pardew’s Friday press conference.

With Newcastle’s fixtures still looking enticing, the majority of Ba’s owners will likely be content to hold for now. After this weekend, the Magpies play host to West Ham, Swansea and Wigan in the following five and also have a trip to Southampton in Gameweek 13. Form and fixtures are undoubtedly in the 8.4 priced FPL forward’s favour – let’s just hope his fitness is, too.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Hey Lads,

    I have absolutely no bench....
    = Stephen Henderson(West Ham/Ipswich), Demel, Guthrie, Gunter.

It stung me this week with a 0 point score for Guthrie with Pienaar suspended, and Berba is potentially out as well this week...0.3m in the bank.

    Do I:
    a) Cut Demel now, knowing he is out for certain for 2 weeks, maybe more
    b) Fix Guthrie or Gunter, allowing Demel to rot and fall back from 4.2 to 4.0, holding till he's back

I have Begovic in goal so I would like to get in Sorensen for Henderson with the 0.3m, having full Stoke keeper coverage that I can forget about and play every week. Though this is a final move...

Looking at Nelsen, Gorkss, and Britton as the cover for Demel, Gunter and Guthrie

Just get Nelson in. Also really a wasted transfer getting in Sorensen, just play Bego till Jan WC and use that transfer on something more worthwhile.

Defence this week: play 3, bench 2 (in order).

I'm thinking: Cuellar, Clark, Nelsen (Mertesacker) (Davies)

    Anyone disagree?

I'd put Davies before Mertesacker and since Clark wasn't on the bench yesterday either so you would imagine that Davies may actually play.

Yeah, that's it, Clark probably won't play.

Reason I'm going Mertesacker is that he's more likely to score than Davies.

Fair enough, don't think there's much between them really. Note that he had a good record for Werder Bremen but has never scored for Arsenal.

Yeah and decent for Germany. That's what scares me, knowing that he'll score his only goal of the season when I bench him. But they won't keep a clean sheet, you can guarantee that. I'd sklightly favour Davies for that, though I don't think he will either.

I disagree. I think Mata is more important.

        1) He is mroe important to Chelsea, than Tevez is to City
        2) He is less rotatable
        3) He is a midfielder, and there are 5 midfield slots, so one of them should be Mata. I cant find 5 other mids better than him, in any case. The same cant be said of Tevez - RVP, Suarez, Ba, for example, are all as good as Tevez from an FPL perspective.

Team Value 103.0 and 0.8 in the bank!
I really want Baines in my team therefore getting rid of Pienaar in the near future i can’t seem to do it.

    Schwarzer (Begovic)

    Nelsen, Caulker, Rafael (Mertesacker, Demel)

Hazard, Santi Cazorla, Michu, Pienaar (Sterling)

I think you should have made the Hazard->Mata move to free up funds. You can probably still do this move, as I think itll work out better in the long run anyway

Then Shwarzer to a 4.0 keeper, play Begovic every week, and Mertesacker to Baines. Will that get you there?

      0.8 + 0.5 (Hazard->Mata) + 1 (Shawarzer to 4.0) = 2.3 + Mertesacker = Baines.

      Does this get you there?

Penny for your thoughts gents, £0m in the bank, 1FT.

    Jaask

    Baines, Huth, Caulker

Cazorla, Sterling, Bale (C), Ben Arfa

    RVP (VC), Lambert, Aguero

Subs: Begovic, S Taylor, Guthrie, Demel

Hardly ideal, but not keen to take a hit so thinking of saving the FT and having a bit more flexibility next week?

Any moves people would be tempted by?

Limit your table to a smaller number of players - maybe 20?

You want to include chances created in there as well I would of thought?

I have been trying to cut them down - it's harder than one thinks! Ta, I'll have a look at that. 🙂

Erm limit cases or something like that? Just think a succinct bunch of 20 candidates looks more meaningful than a sprawling list of everybody.

I have tidied it up a bit more - minimum 16 passes in final third. After that, the 2 Assist merchants start to drop out.
