City’s unbeaten run stretches to 10 games but their toils in front of goal continue, with a goalless draw at Upton Park. Sergio Aguero is handed a sub role yet again, while Andy Carroll draws yet another blank for the hosts:

On the Up

City Defence
This evening’s goalless draw maintained the champions’ recent upturn in defensive resilience. It’s three clean sheets and just one goal conceded in the last four Gameweeks now for Roberto Mancini’s men – the likes of Chelsea and United have one clean sheet apiece in the last six, by comparison.

West Ham Defence
A first clean sheet in six was just rewards for the home side’s resilient efforts. Sam Allardyce will be buoyed by his team’s ability to nullify City’s threat but with Guy Demel still sidelined and James Tomkins missing out through injury, the Hammers boss will be hoping James Collins can shake off a knock which forced him off towards the end, given their upcoming schedule.

Going Down

Sergio Aguero
With a vital Champions League game against Ajax in midweek, Aguero was benched yet again for this evening’s trip to Upton Park. Roberto Mancini started with three of his four forwards and while the Argentine was afforded some game time late on, he has now been omitted from the City first XI in three of the past four Gameweeks – despite his obvious capabilities, Aguero has simply become far too frustrating a Fantasy option right now, with his manager’s up front rotation dramatically curtailing his appeal.

Andy Carroll
His loan move to West Ham, which saw the towering centre-forward reunited with Sam Allardyce, was hailed as the perfect fit. The Hammers’ tactics seemed tailor-made for Carroll, with delivery from wide guaranteed to create chances aplenty in the air but it hasn’t quite transpired as Allardyce would have hoped. Another blank today means Carroll has just one assist in six appearances since making his way to Upton Park.

I just learned this week how far I have to go to be a good fantasy footballer. This is the first season I have tried to play seriously (just discovered FFS this summer) and I had been doing pretty well; convinced myself I’d cracked it. Clearly not. Made a complete hash of this week.

I won’t hide behind the sad “this game is all luck” rubbish I keep seeing. What happens on any given weekend might be luck, but over the long haul one can make patient, intelligent decisions or impatient, stupid ones. I made the latter this week. I jerked Mata in early for a hit to beat the price rises and then, when he was clearly not to play, doubled down (Mata to Valencia) trying to redeem my wasted hit. Result: Valencia gets 2 more than the sub who would have played, for a -6 with nothing to show for it. Stupid, knee-jerk folly.

I will learn from this. No, really. Once I take a -8 this week to sort my team out I will be patient in the future. 🙂

I learnt not to do early transfers but my plan needed the cash I'd lose if I didn't get Mata in early. First early transfer in a year and I regretted it. I did Cazorla-> Mata and then Mata -> Bale (for free, but still). Feel so stupid. But to be fair, both transfers could be justified.

I could justify my decisions, but what I am taking away is that overly interventionist management is a mistake. Sometimes you just need to pick your team and let them play for a few weeks. I am coming to believe that watching FISO for optimal price-rise moves makes for jerky decisions.

Definitely. I think where I am now owes a lot to luck. However, we would not do all this if we believed that our decisions had no impact. We put ourselves in a the best position we can to benefit from good luck without being hurt by bad luck. If this didn't matter we would not respect those who consistently rank high. What I have just learned is to stop trying to optimise each week and think long-term.

It's lovely, because you can actually just take a look at those around you to see if you are going up or not. Like a cute, little mini league.

Looking to ditch S. Taylor (especially before a possible price drop). I have Rafael, Sagna, McCartney, and Gorks in back, not including Saylor. I'd be a bit nervous about Ba > Tevez for rotation risk. Any advice? Thanks.

    A. Saylor > Cameron
    B. Saylor > Cameron, Ba > Tevez
    C. Saylor > Shawcross

well, for all my doom and gloom I actually managed to outscore both rivals this week. One had Lallana and Ba/Michu to play.

The other has Foster, Morrison and Olsson plus Dyer, so I hope Ba misses out but Newcastle score 😀

On another note, looks like Wilson will have to depart tonight, he is dropping

Unless you bought him at 4.6 it won't matter if he drops? Surely you got him at 4.5?

I did, but he's gone back to 4.5, so tomorrow he'll be 4.4 and I will lose that 0.1

If i could have 4 forwards i would destroy my defence to do it. Too risky for me with only one other striker though.

I have been in two minds about this and asked the same question on here. A player who I think talks a lot of sense and does consistently well advised against it so no.

I currently have Rooney now and would cost he a hit to get RVP anyways. Team would be:

      Jassi, Bego,

      Baines, Ridgewell, Nelson, Hughes, Davies

      Bale, Pienaar, Mata, Sterling, Maloney

      RVP, Rooney, Ba
