City’s unbeaten run stretches to 10 games but their toils in front of goal continue, with a goalless draw at Upton Park. Sergio Aguero is handed a sub role yet again, while Andy Carroll draws yet another blank for the hosts:

On the Up

City Defence
This evening’s goalless draw maintained the champions’ recent upturn in defensive resilience. It’s three clean sheets and just one goal conceded in the last four Gameweeks now for Roberto Mancini’s men – the likes of Chelsea and United have one clean sheet apiece in the last six, by comparison.

West Ham Defence
A first clean sheet in six was just rewards for the home side’s resilient efforts. Sam Allardyce will be buoyed by his team’s ability to nullify City’s threat but with Guy Demel still sidelined and James Tomkins missing out through injury, the Hammers boss will be hoping James Collins can shake off a knock which forced him off towards the end, given their upcoming schedule.

Going Down

Sergio Aguero
With a vital Champions League game against Ajax in midweek, Aguero was benched yet again for this evening’s trip to Upton Park. Roberto Mancini started with three of his four forwards and while the Argentine was afforded some game time late on, he has now been omitted from the City first XI in three of the past four Gameweeks – despite his obvious capabilities, Aguero has simply become far too frustrating a Fantasy option right now, with his manager’s up front rotation dramatically curtailing his appeal.

Andy Carroll
His loan move to West Ham, which saw the towering centre-forward reunited with Sam Allardyce, was hailed as the perfect fit. The Hammers’ tactics seemed tailor-made for Carroll, with delivery from wide guaranteed to create chances aplenty in the air but it hasn’t quite transpired as Allardyce would have hoped. Another blank today means Carroll has just one assist in six appearances since making his way to Upton Park.

      No, we have a lot of similarities but we are not the same. There are some BIG differences. There is no template team yet... that is the beauty of this season 🙂

        The template team is seriously taking shape and I saw it weeks ago with the only change really being Mata instead of Hazard between then and now. I'm thinking Everton cover may not be particularly essential very soon.

      Similar teams here likely mean you're gaining ground on the majority.. have a few small differentials to get edge over those here but still moving forward with the majority

          I'm 10pts behind you (though i reckon come tomorrow we'll be similar) but I think is too early.. the popular picks are often those which gain decent points and better to gain a few positions each week than take a risk which fails early on (e.g. captaining baines, cazorla etc have lost me a few thousand positions).

          Value comes in having the desired team at a cheaper price than other people 😉

    So team linked (pretty poor team I might add)
    Main concern is no RVP. I have £1.3m and 1FT

    These are the options:

    A) Jelavic -> Berb/Crouch, Aguero -> RVP
    B) Cazorla -> 8.2m or less, Aguero -> RVP
    C) Other?

      I went to the Reading Vs Fulham game last week and I thought Ruiz was excellent, But when he's on he plays a playmaker role allowing the Berbanator to move forward, but he does have a lethal shot and at 5.8 that's decent value, he caught my eye last week, promising differential!

    Bego (Foster)
    Baines Nelsen Hughes (Demel* Wilson*)
    HBA Pienaar Michu Bale (Sterling)
    Ba Suarez RVP

    2 FTs, 0.9 in the bank

    Sensible thing to do is getting rid of Demel and Wilson, though I am tempted to bring in Rooney or Tevez. The latter would mean downgrading Bale or Pienaar, which could burn me bad.

    Play it safe: Demel & Wilson > Simpson & Cameron
    Take a risk: Bale/Pienaar & Suarez > Lallana and Rooney/Tevez

        Thanks Count. As I'm a bit worried as Michelin stated below, Smalling and Jones will be back in the picture and might impact Rafael's game time soon.

    Mata's FPL Flag has faded to a slightly less angry shade of orange. He's now rated at 50% to play next week. 🙂

          You had it right. What troubles me is that the flag makes casuals sell. I need them to sell him a lot so he gets down to 9.3. I can afford him now, but I really want to be able to get him back for the amount I (stupidly) sold him! 🙂

    So I think I'm going to do Fletcher > Berbatov tonight. His fixtures aren't the best but he's on penalties and he has assists in him...plus Fulham are playing good attacking football lately. The alternatives are Holt, Kone or Mirallas.

    I think with 2FT it's worth doing it before his rise tonight? Sound like a plan?

    Thanks for your thoughts...

    Do people think Mertesacker is now a nailed on starter? My feeling is that dropping him at City gave Wenger some embarrassment, and he probably won't do it again.

    Does anyone aggree?
