Our Friday evening regular is rolled out once again, as we highlight another trio of overlooked Fantasy alternatives for your perusal ahead of tomorrow morning’s deadline. This time round, we offer a route into the two most lethal attacks around right now and also consider a fit-again full-back with a favourable run of fixtures on the horizon…

Javier Hernandez

Climbing off the bench at Villa last Saturday evening, the Mexican’s deadly eye for goal broke the hosts’ hearts and helped United to yet another three points in their bid to reclaim the title. Such was Hernandez’s impact, Sir Alex Ferguson revealed post-match that the forward’s performance had earned him the right to start against Norwich this weekend – a claim once again reiterated by the United boss this morning.

Looking at the statistics, Hernandez been more than a little unlucky to have earned minimal game time. A single start so far this season harvested a nine point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) return in Gameweek 4, with a goal, assist and couple of bonus points against Wigan. Hernandez has played just 205 minutes in the league and has racked up four goals – Wayne Rooney has scored twice in 567 minutes by comparison.

Ferguson’s words of assurance have seen Hernandez acquired by significant numbers heading into tomorrow’s deadline – 51,000 FPL managers have snapped up the 7.6 priced forward thus far, yet Hernandez remains a real differential, with an ownership just slightly in excess of 3%. Similarly in the Sky Sports game, he comes in at 7.8 and is currently in just 1% of managers’ plans. With Rooney still a doubt due to the ankle problem that forced him off in last weekend’s 3-2 win, Hernandez looks set to partner Van Persie for the trip to Carrow Road and with United’s flourishing attack scoring three times in all but one of their last five road trips, goals look on the menu once again tomorrow evening.

Bryan Ruiz

It was a difficult first season for the Costa Rican. Ruiz arrived from Dutch outfit FC Twente with an impressive goalscoring tally (35 in 65 games) but the rigours of the Premier League proved initially problematic and matches all too often seemed to pass him by. Managing the full 90 minutes just nine times in 27 appearances, his Fantasy impact was minimal, with a couple of goals and four assists indicative of his early struggles.

This time round, it’s a different matter. Having finally grown accustomed to the greater demands of the English top-flight, Ruiz has turned in a series of strong performances as Jol’s side rack up the goals. Already, he has seven assists and has found the net once in eight appearances and with Dimitar Berbatov adding further class through the middle, the Costa Rican has racked up 42 FPL points – over five points per game.

Granted, the Bulgarian’s superior scoring rate and mid-price appeal is difficult to ignore but for those Fantasy managers intent on a cut-price route into the second most prolific attack in the league so far, Ruiz is an intriguing option. While a home clash against Sunderland tomorrow holds undoubted appeal, Fulham have shown an ability to find the net regardless of opponent – Jol’s men have notched twice against United and Everton and put three past Arsenal last time out. Priced at 5.8 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, an ownership of 2% and 0.2% respectively highlights the extent as to which Ruiz has been ignored.

Jose Enrique

Brendan Rodgers’ arrival on Merseyside had initially seemed the perfect fit for the former Newcastle man. The new manager’s preferred 4-3-3 system, with full-backs pushing on and offering threat from deep seemed tailor-made for Enrique’s attacking tendencies but injuries, combined with an initial lack of defensive solidity, saw the Spaniard drift off Fantasy radars.

Having fully recovered in recent weeks, Enrique is finally beginning to nail down a regular role for Liverpool, with a brief shift to 3-5-2 even affording him a chance on the left of midfield against Chelsea last weekend. Unbeaten in their last six, the vast majority of attention has understandably been heaped on the shoulders of Luis Suarez but, particularly at home, the Reds backline is also starting to produce. Rodgers’ men have shipped a single goal in their previous three at Anfield and this weekend welcome a Wigan side with just two goals in their last four road trips.

Priced at 5.7 in FPL and 6.9 in the Sky Sports game and with an ownership of 3% and 2% respectively, Enrique could once again come into contention as a viable Fantasy prospect, with a strong upcoming schedule offering clear potential over the Gameweeks ahead.

    Did you know?

Olivier Giroud (Arsenal) has missed the most clear cut chances in the Premier League this season, with 10.

Much like in baseball, where over a season, about 30% of balls put in play end up as hits and that statistic holds true no matter who the batter is, I believe I've seen numbers on PLFantasy, that about 38-40% of shots on goal turn into goals if you look at large enough sample, and that players aren't consistently above or below that mark just because they are good/bad or clutch/chokers. To me, it says that Giroud has mostly just been unlucky, not that he sucks.

    B) Who is a better option for the next six weeks, Ba or Berbatov?
    C) Is it worth a 4 point hit to bring in Fellani this week when you already have Pienaar?

i'd say your mind and heart should be saying the opposite.

63% of suarez' shots and 50% of his goals at home come inside the box, and wigan is 3rd best defense in league in terms of shots conceded in box.

whereas with for berba, 82% of shots and 100% of goals at home come inside the box, and sunderland is the WORST in the league interms of shots conceded in the box.

as for form, pretty much both bang in form.

No,not a rookie error. I wanted to buy more time to think who to sell and see if Swans bring Graham back and play Michu in the hole again. Plan is to get Suarez in for ba in gw 15, but susp looming.

Michu/Felli both 1 YC away from susp. With a bit of luck they will stagger their suspensions and solve my benching headache. Which btw isn't a headache.

I owned Kaca and when I played him he scored 1 pt for his 55 minutes with a def and CS on the bench. Last week i didn't play him and he scored(9).

I agree, much prefer to have all layers with some sort of returns potential, seems pointless spending dosh on players who never pass the 2pts mark. Can be painful at times, however the reverse factor is that higher chance of points when player doesn't start..Takes pressure off in terms of transfers should one lose a few players, on in my case a wc.

About to leave and lock in my final WC team, so just looking for a final check...

    Begovic (Tremmel)
    Baines Hughes Demel (Cameron Cuellar)
    Silva Mata Fellaini Nolan (Sterling)
    RVP Suarez(c) Berbatov(v)

I have absolutely no clue who to captain, I've been changing it all day, and right now have it on Suarez since that was my first instinct earlier in the week...

Also decided not to retain Gorkss in favour of Demel this week... might still get him in time for the DGW though...

In fact if you're going to go Wham defence it should be McCartney who offers some assist value. He's a good crosser of the ball and likes to get a bit forward.

Yeah but I only need him for this week, and I prefer Demel's fixture, and I just had an afternoon nap, where Nolan scored 2 goals and Demel played in a 2-0 win, although WHM were playing away and it came up on the screen as "Nolan Solano"

So it's not entirely reliable... 😉

Just letting you know there is some reason to be cautious. O'Brien assisted a goal last game so it's hard to see him being dropped. If McCartney is genuinely injured then Demel will start I'd imagine. It's just hard to call.

                    Yep I somewhat agree...

It all depends on whether McCartney is actually injured... he probably isn't since there hasn't been any news...

If he is fit, which I think he is, then he is the least likely to be dropped since he is the only natural LB of the three?

I don't know why but your WC team doesn't excite me much. Maybe because its similar to my side without the need for a WC, I dunno. In general its a decent safe WC team. If you had the cash upgrading Nolan to a big hitter would be preferable. I guess thats the cost of having Suarez.

I just got rid of Cazorla but kept Bale. I might be wrong, but i reckon the derby will mean more to Bale and have a hunch he'll kick off the shackles today.

I'm kinda regretting the triple transfer I just did: Cazorla, Ivanovic, Ba -> Suarez, Rafael, Ben Arfa

      Team now:

      Begovic, (Rudd)
      Rafael, Baines, Cameron, (McCarthy, Gorkss)
Bale, Mata, Fellaini, Ben Arfa, (Sterling)

It was an international friendly "injury" and Rooney has more doubt surrounding him. Norwich also don't appear to be the easy beats they were earlier in the season so he'll probably be needed. Welbeck doesn't really have a reason to play as he'll play in the mid week CL game.

Having a last minute case of the Captain wobbles...

Had it on RVP all week without even giving it a thought... but Berba is starting to look like a very nice differential...

Should i just log out of FPL and go to bed? or give it some serious consideration?

Berbatov is class but not as good as RVP. Stick to RVP.

No stick with RVP, he is always reliable. He's brought returns every start this season so far.

Part of the reason i brought RVP in was so i could have a banker for C every week... i'll try to resist the temptation to change it... cheers...

With the doubt surrounding Demel's start you could do the exciting Caulker switch and hope for another goal...

Looks about right to me, with the only question being the RVP/Berbs captain debate that has been going on here for about the last 14 hrs.

I'd put Sterling in for Walcott, far easier game for Sterling, Walcott not guaranteed to start.

I'm fairly sure Walcott will start this one. Also I rate him much higher than Sterling at the moment.

Might as well keep Mertesacker. But I'd maybe be wary of playing him against Spurs.

I really want to use one of my two free transfers, and since I can't think of any big moves I want this week which would you do to bank a point!

    Demel to Nelson

    or

    Foster to Migs

I currently have Huth and Bego if that changes anyhting..
