A red card for Brede Hangeland helps Sunderland raise their game ahead of a favourable run of fixtures. With a double Gameweek 16 and four home matches in the next four on the horizon, Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson, Stephane Sessegnon and Carlos Cuellar all produce the points as the Black Cats win on their travels for the first time this term…

Fletcher Back in Form
Having racked up 39 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his opening four games, Steven Fletcher’s eye for goal and mid-price valuation earned the summer signing plenty investment early on this term. Unsurprisingly, the former Wolves man was unable to maintain his superb scoring rate and after rising to 7.4 had dropped back to 7.0 prior to yesterday’s trip to the Cottage. Sunderland had arrived at Fulham with a mere seven goals to their name – the lowest in the league – though Fletcher’s worth was obvious, having found the net on five occasions. A goal and assist yesterday afternoon means the forward has played a part in seven of his side’s 10 goals and with the maximum FPL bonus points in the bag yet again, he has now produced 15 bonus points – second only to Carlos Tevez’s 16 so far. It’s something of an understatement to say that Martin O’Neill’s side have failed to impress going forward but with a strong run of home fixtures in the next four Gameweeks (WBA, QPR, nor, CHE & RDG) he’s the one man most likely to produce the points, going on his displays so far.

Johnson and Sessegnon Amongst the Points
It’s been an underwhelming start to his career on Wearside but Adam Johnson is starting to suggest he is finally beginning to settle. With James McClean dropped to the bench for the second time in three Gameweeks, the former City winger was shifted to the left, allowing Seb Larsson to shift from the middle out to the right flank against the Cottagers. Having broken his duck against Everton last weekend, Johnson was in the points again, providing a pair of assists and a couple of FPL bonus points for his owners. Two performances are not quite enough to judge his Fantasy potential but with the fixtures so obliging, many are likely to snap up the 6.8 priced midfielder.

With seven goals, 12 assists and 14 bonus points last term, Stephane Sessegnon had been priced at 8.0 this time round but prior to yesterday, he’d been a passenger in the Sunderland side, without a goal or assist in the opening 11 Gameweeks. A superb strike for the visitors’ third had his manager hoping the Benin international can grow in self-belief and start to replicate his form of the previous campaign:

“Confidence is a big thing, and when you see someone like Sessegnon score that type of goal, you hope it helps. He’s been searching for that confidence all season, as has the rest of the team. There were signs of it coming back last week at Everton. We created three great chances in the first half and should have been able to take more than the one we did. We created chances again today and shared the goals around.”

Cuellar on the Radar
With just three goals conceded in their first four home games, O’Neill’s side have been impressive at the back at the Stadium of Light, despite their lack of cutting edge. Ahead of their above-mentioned schedule, investment in Sunderland’s defensive assets looks a likely tactic by many and while fit-again Phil Bardsley could offer potential from right-back, Carlos Cuellar’s goal and 4.5 FPL price tag will surely see the Spaniard pick up plenty new suitors over the next few matches. Cuellar sat third in our Watchlist rankings before Sunday – he’s likely to maintain that rank for several weeks.

Fulham Defensive Woes Continue
The dismissal of Brede Hangeland, for a two-footed challenge on Lee Cattermole, undoubtedly changed the match. Martin Jol will now make do without the Norwegian for the next three Gameweeks as his side travel to Stoke and Chelsea before playing host to Spurs but while Hangeland’s absence will be a real blow, Fulham’s defensive woes have been apparent for some time now. Although their attacking brand of football has allowed Dimitar Berbatov to flourish up front, the Cottagers have now conceded 22 goals in their opening 12 fixtures, only one less than basement-dwellers QPR. On eight occasions they have conceded at least two goals and as the season progresses, their resilience at the back is further slackening – they have now shipped three goals in three of the last four.

Injuries Build up for Jol
With Kieran Richardson sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained against Arsenal last week, Alex Kacaniklic was afforded the chance on the left flank but the young Swede lasted less than half an hour before limping off to be replaced by Hugo Rodallega. Martin Jol then watched on as Bryan Ruiz was forced off on 58 minutes, to be replaced by Mladen Petric – although the latter finished the match, he left the field a couple of times for treatment after notching the Cottagers’ consolation. Post-match, Jol confirmed both Kacaniklic and Ruiz will be out for at least three weeks; his attacking options are severely dented as the schedule begins to pick up pace, with the next three Gameweeks kicking off on November 24, November 27 and December 1 respectively.

Third red arrow, bummer. Played Nelson over Cuellar, and Mata coming on stopped Clyne subbing in too! Then Hangeland sent off. Great. So a three match ban who should I get for 5.0m to replace. Have Shawcross, thinking Cameron or Wilkinson really to double up?

As much as I'd want Suarez/Tevez/Aguero in my forward line, RVP/Ba/Berbatov is more than capable of pulling in the points every week.

I've the same front line, I guess it's just a knee-jerk as I'm happy with them. The points keep coming in but it's so hard to ignore Tevez and Suarez the way they are going. But now they are getting out of reach.. Suarez 2-3M more expensive then Berbatov and Ba's selling price for me.

That is the thing. There are so many options at the moment with so many players having big hauls over the past two weeks that you can't have everyone. You do feel you miss out though when it is one of the other popular one's as you sense everyone has them.

Any 3 from those 6 are top picks and if Rooney is fit next week then I'm sure he'll get added to that list. Even Giroud is getting a mention and although slightly less attractive an option Fletcher has the fixtures and the double gameweek to be effective if not spectacular.

This is a good point, i already have money in the bank and have no idea how to spend it. Nolan > Walcott, potentially sideways. Berba/Ba > Giroud, sideways. Mata > Silva, sideways.

    Federici, (Foster),
    Baines, Cuellar, Cameron, Clyne, (Demel),
    Cazorla, Valencia, Michu, (Fellaini, Guthrie),
    RVP, Tevez, Berba. (£0.4m)

My original plan was to do just Foster -> Begovic. However, now I'm thinking of Valencia -> Walcott for a 4 pt. hit. Or should I take Fellaini out for someone to be able to field a 3-4-3? Thoughts?

    Begovic (mannone)

    michu cazorla sterling nasri (fellaini)
    rvp berba Ba

Have 1FT and 0.7m in the bank….Not sure what to do.
A: ba >> giroud…and then sell cazorla the following week
    B:. ba + cazorla >> giroud + silva…. for a hit
    C: ba + nasri >> suarez + any mid upto 6.8 i.e. morrison…for a hit
    D: ba + nasri >> tevez + any mid upto 7.5 i.e. lennon/johnson…for a hit

I want to bring in suarez and tevez but taking out Ba doesnt make sense since they playing southampton. suarez is on 4 yellows and tevez is playing chelsea.

If i had the cash, i would have just done nasri >> silva but in order to do that now, i have to take a hit…

Sorry, it looks like they're not always given anymore.

"The act of awarding a cap is now international and is applied to other sports. Actual caps are not always given anymore, but the term "cap" for an international or other appearance has been retained. Thus, a cap is awarded for each game played and so a player who has played x games, for the team, is said to have been capped x times or have won x caps."

if clichy is rotated will he be more than likely be an unused sub , just thinking city are looking more solid now and i have baines + 3 solid defs so clichy if was an unused sub , good points from the bench.

2 ft. Am I mad to consider baines to Cuellar and gets to Walcott. Rationale is both eve and sun have relatively similar cs probability and I am not sure gets will get more than 2 pt.

Really considering Cazorla > Valencia. His fixtures are just too good plus Cazorla played quite deep until the sending off....however I am concerned with what Valencia showed against Norwich

So what are the chances of McCartney being dropped tonight? If he is I get Cuellar off the bench, seems unlikely though 😉

Anyway, besides that, I quite fancy Silva in, which I guess means Bale or Cazorla out, who would you lose first?

Repost from.last article. Comments greatly appreciated please.

    Bego/foster

    Baines/Cuellar/Cameron/Nelson/Demel Hazard/Fellaini/HBA/Kaca/Cazorla RVP/Tevez/Crouch

Was going to do Crouch and HBA to Morrison and Ba.

But with Kaca injury, what options should i be looking at? Maloney perhaps?

I ruined my season by saving that fcking wc, because my team always looked quite okay on paper.
Is it finally time to do some radical stuff, because I dropped almost 200k places last gw!

    Bego (Fed)
    Baines, Cuellar, Williams, Hughes (Nelsen)
    Mata, Bale, Pienaar (Fellaini, Guthrie)
    Rvp, Ba, Berba
    1,8 in the bank

    WC
    Bego (Tremel)
    Rafael, Cuellar, Bardsley (Clyne, Gorkks)
    Walcott, Bale, Sterling, AJ (Fellaini)
    Rvp, Suarez, Giroud or Ba

Don`t get rid of Mata. After Saturdays shambles it'll be a long time before he is dropped again. I`d sooner get rid of RVP than Mata tbh.

Yeah i`m not saying get rid of RVP just saying Mata is every bit as important imo. Look at this seasons history on his page. He is a big game player and a nap to do well against city.

Think you know this yourself, but there is no point/need to WC that team....i've been in same boat after every bad week, but still think if you've held the WC this long, then wait a bit more.

Why does AVB continue to persist with Gallas? His best days are well and truly behind him. Was amazing at Chelsea, good but not great at Arsenal and now is average at best at Spurs. Yet he is a constant in a very underwhelming Spurs DF.

I'm not a Spurs fan (am a Caulker owner though). When BAE is back (any ideas when anybody?) I'd be interested to see a back four of

    Walker Caulker Vertonghen BAE

Lots of pace and energy which is pretty crucial for AVBs high line. Admittedly a lack of experience though

No idea, Gallas was actually pretty good vs United so I was standing up for him but since then he has been absolute shite. He's captain too so maybe he is ahead of Caulker/Kaboul on the pecking order, which would be outrageous.

+1, Gallas had made many mistakes that caused the goals they conceded

He is at 8.0 but the way fergie plays it looks like he 'll be rotated a lot !
what do you guys think ? good differential or not ?
    I have RVP too.

I think he's had a tough baptism and United hadn't found the best way to fit him in. Just have to wait and see. He should come straight back in, it's not as if our wingers are pulling up trees right now.

Be interesting to see if people believe RVP is worth 2.6m more then Aguero? Both seem to have similar potential tbh.

The only problem is, you have options to cover City, United it is between RVP and Rooney, everyone else in that offense is a write off currently.

Silva + RVP seems the perfect way to cover City and Utd.

I'd love to have that combo but am scared to get any City whilst they are still in Europe and Mancini is shuffling the pack

Ok, hitsville advice further to earlier post. As I have Hange and Afro banned and Pog not playing, only way I can get 11 out is play Nelson away at Utd this week. Scary, they will tear them apart...

So as been thinking of selling Hazard is this worth an 8 pointer (first one of season!)... 🙂

Hangeland, Pog, Hazard > Reid, Saurez, 4.4mid, (with exact money)

    Gives me

    Howard
    Reid Cuellar Shawcross
    Mata Cazorla Nolan Fellaini
    Saurez RVP Tevez

    McCarthy, 4.4 mid, Clyne, Nelson.

I'm thinking the 8 point hit can be recovered by the extra scoring potential of Reid and Saurez as opposed to Hazard and Nelson playing this week?

    Thoughts?

No way would I take an 8pter. I've taken a few 4 pters with mixed results but starting the GW on -8 seems a step too far. I think you have decent DF so I'd go Hang>4.0m (McCart/Shorey) and Pog>Lambert. It's just about worth a hit to get a playing XI out without Nelson in there

It's really weird that when I watch other teams that have frontline of rvp, berba, ba - it looks okay.
When I look my team with that same frontline, I can see only NO SUAREZ.

Ha. Same for me. I talked someone out of Ba to Suarez for a hit on Saturday then done exactly that move myself after realising I couldn`t afford Suarez if his price rose again,
