Chelsea’s ineffectual display in Turin has them staring group stage elimination in the face and, earlier this morning, cost Roberto Di Matteo his job. Elsewhere, United’s decision to rest and rotate helps Galatasaray register a narrow win, while Theo Walcott is ruled out of Arsenal’s vital match with Montpellier this evening due to a shoulder injury…

Juventus 3 Chelsea 0
Last night’s main talking point was Roberto Di Matteo’s decision to drop Fernando Torres and field Eden Hazard as the lone forward for the Blues last night. In what proved to be his final game as Chelsea boss, Di Matteo’s faith in the Spaniard has clearly reached rock bottom – reports had suggested Daniel Sturridge was set to replace Torres up top but, despite Sturridge being unavailable through injury, Hazard got the nod ahead of the former Liverpool man. Torres was afforded a 20 minute sub appearance late in the second-half but failed to impress yet again. Di Matteo selected Cesar Azpilicueta on the right of midfield, though he was replaced by Victor Moses on the hour mark.

This morning’s main talking point is, of course, Di Matteo’s departure. Just four points off the top of the league, victory over City this weekend would close the gap to just one but, with two points accrued in their last four league games, form has not been on their side. The fallout now casts a huge cloud of uncertainty over Stamford Bridge going into Sunday’s showdown. Fantasy managers must now sit tight and wait for events to unfold in the next 48-hours before assessing how the changes, if they come, could affect the potential of Chelsea’s assets.

Chelsea Starting XI: Cech; Ivanovic, Luiz, Cahill, Cole; Ramires, Mikel (Torres 71); Azpilicueta (Moses 60), Oscar, Mata; Hazard

Galatasaray 1 United 0
Having already qualified as Group H winners, Sir Alex Ferguson omitted many of his experienced stars for the trip to Turkey. Only three players – Rafael, Michael Carrick and Javier Hernandez – were retained from the side that lost to Norwich on Saturday. Carrick shifted to central defence and was joined by fit-again Phil Jones, as Ferguson chose to start with a midfield diamond once again, with Nick Powell tucked in behind Hernandez and Danny Welbeck. From a Fantasy perspective, last night’s game was more about who didn’t play – Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney will be afforded plenty rest ahead of a home clash against basement-dwellers QPR on Saturday, with the Dutchman set to handed the armband by huge numbers ; he has an incredible 66% of votes in this week’s Captain Poll so far.

United Starting XI: Lindegaard; Rafael, Carrick, Jones, Buttner; Anderson (Young 74), Fletcher, Cleverley; Powell (Macheda 74); Hernandez, Welbeck (King 85)

In Other News
Arsene Wenger rolled out a handy injury update ahead of Arsenal’s home clash with Montpellier this evening. The Gunners boss revealed Kieran Gibbs and Gervinho will both return to the squad following recent thigh and ankle injuries respectively, though Andre Santos misses out due to an abdominal problem. Gibbs’ return should see Thomas Vermaelen return to a central berth once again – the Belgian has filled in at left-back in the last two after Santos’ much-maligned display at Old Trafford in Gameweek 10. The knock-on effect is that it’s likely to raise question marks over the starting roles of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, though the former looks the likeliest to drop out, bearing in mind Mertesacker has started all but one of the first 12 Gameweeks.

Wenger also dealt Theo Walcott’s Fantasy owners by ruling the winger out of tonight’s crucial encounter:

“It’s the injury he got during the (Spurs) game with his shoulder. We have to scan that today and see if there is no damage. He will be out for tomorrow but it should be short-term.”

With Gervinho available, the Ivorian is likely to be afforded a chance to impress on the right as Arsenal go in search of the three points. Walcott’ impact over the last two gameweeks has harvested a goal and three assists and with a strong run of fixtures on the horizon, he was seen as a cheaper midfield option to Santi Cazorla, though yesterday’s news will shelve any ideas of investing until Wenger gives us a more definite prognosis.

Alan Pardew has revealed Jonas Gutierrez could be set for a quick return to action this Thursday. The Argentine limped off early against West Ham in Gameweek 11 and was sidelined for the 2-1 home defeat by Swansea last weekend but his manager is confident he is closing in on a comeback:

“It was really touch and go with him (for Swansea). We had a tough week, and it was a tough call on Jonas. Jonas had an injury where we thought we could not risk losing him, especially after learning we’d lost Cabaye. We made that call. We think he’ll be OK for Thursday, and hopefully for Sunday at Southampton.”

With a single point in their last three, the Magpies now travel to Southampton in search of their first away win of the season. Pardew still has Fabricio Coloccini suspended and with Yohan Cabaye out for six weeks with a groin injury, the Newcastle boss doesn’t have his troubles to seek right now. Looking at the schedule, the weekend’s game may be the best chance of an away win over the next few Gameweeks – the Tyneside outfit’s next road trips takes them to Stoke, Fulham, United and Arsenal.

QPR have confirmed Bobby Zamora is set to be sidelined for three months due to a hip injury. The forward had been a regular under Mark Hughes and started very match between Gameweek 2-9 but after picking up the problem in training recently, managed a couple of brief sub appearances as the club afforded him time to recover. With Zamora out of the picture now, and the likes of Andy Johnson also sidelined, Djibril Cisse looks nailed-on as the lone forward for the foreseeable future – given that the Frenchman has notched just once all season, though, the omens don’t look too good as Hughes attempts to engineer a scramble up the table.

You need some fulham - they've been crazy.

      United: 29 goals
      City: 25 goals
      Fulham: 25 goals
      Chelsea: 24 goals

      To put things into perspective.

Yeah, its tough between Fulham and Pool. I'd say it depends on the player more than anything. For midfield, Sterling is stronger than any Fulham option. Up front, I'd rather have Berbatov than Suarez tbh. Mainly because Im not convinced on Suarez, but also because Im guessing your other 2 will be RVP and Tevez and adding Suarez to that is too expensive.

If hammers are going to get any points from their tough fixtures I expect them to in Nolan's direction.

my major concern is if begovic and cameron get cs berbatov is left with 2 whereas if berba or another fulham player scores both bego and cameron are left with 2-4 and 2 respectively. Btw I am more keen on sterling instead of mcanuff as mcanuff has no returns against three against qpr norwich and everton and also sterling will be facing davies who will struggle to keep up with sterlings acceleraton and pace as swansea have been known to concede from passing errors at the back.

Well you have no other decent options in defence so you're forced to play Cameron, Enrique and Rafael anyway. Out of the front 8, Its your choice between Sterling and McAnuff. Obviously you'd want to play Sterling being a Pool fan and his recent performances but I'm not sure a double up on their attack is a good idea away, Swansea have improved a fair bit recently.

Right, so I have various transfer options lined up and I need information to decide between them.

    A) Bring in Ba and Walcott - do we have Walcott shoulder injury news - the scan was scheduled for today.

    B) Bring in Giroud and HBA - can we get any confirmation on Newcastle playing 4-3-3 so HBA explodes again?

My final backup option is bringing in Suarez and Puncheon.

I wouldn't take out Berb. He's the best way to cash in this rampant Fulham attack. They've scored the same number of goals as City!

Also about the Puncheon matter, the shots on target he's getting is absolutely astounding for that price - if you believe that he's going to start then he's a big big buy.

Yeah he looks brilliant whenever I watch. Adkins has too many forward options though that could play in his winger slot. Hopefully his form has convinced.

Minded to lose Berb because not only is the stoke game an awful away fixture but their following ones are generally poor too. This matters especially for smaller teams like Fulham, and speaking of which they've had a bunch of injuries in the week. Ruiz injured, Kaca I think, heck even Petric was injured while scoring.the odds are stacked up against keeping and it certainly isn't my best option. Ba stats are astounding.

If you fancy Newcastle to do well, get Ba in. HBA is not an option yet imo.. The 4-3-3 has to start clicking like last season.. But if you are affording HBA for the 4-3-3, you may as well fork out the extra for Cisse or Ba depending on who plays up front.. But of those options, A

Valencia hasn't looked quite as threatening and beating his man as he did last hear IMO - some united fans were complaining earlier that he was still playing below his dominant self. I do fear qpr will be quite stubborn like they were at the emirates. If it were Southampton, Villa or Wigan I'd be more confident of a thrashing.

Marko Marin had been on the bench for the last 6-7 games (or probably even more). I just can't think of a similar situation in the past where a new signing, who is apparently "fit" had been made to rot on the bench.. He hasn't even made a sub appearance yet.. Many won't know what he looks like.. And in those games, there was a Capital one game and also a few games whereby he could have gotten a run out.. Another one of those strange decisions by RDM..

Used my FT to get Michu in for their quick run of home matches (which he'll probably miss one with an impending suspension....have suarez too...dohhhhhhh!), but im concerned about one thing this weekend and for the next few weeks......Berba!!!!

Blasphemic I know, but shall I do Fletcher in for Berba now???? Stoke welcome Fulham this weekend, and I have Begovic and Cameron and see a clean sheet possibility and a 2pt, maybe even 1 for His Majesty up front.

Fletcher can't stop scoring (even though he missed a few weeks), and Sunderland have the fixtures until Chels and United.

Why do you want to sell a striker in good form, who's had just the one fairly bad game recently (FFwise), for a striker in poor form who's had just the one decent game last week.

no transfers for me then despite an absolute stinker last week.

Here's hoping my team of average ragamuffins will do better this time around!

Scary when you compare what Chelsea have won in the last 10 years, to Arsenal.

And Chelsea have sacked about 7 managers in that time...

    Begovic - Foster
    Baines - Gibbs - Cuellar - Simpson - Nelsen
    Bale - Mata - Cazorla - Pienaar - Sterling
    Suarez - Ba - Berbatov

Trying to get Silva in for Pienaar, was thinking of swapping Gibbs for McCartney for a hit to raise funds.
Good thoughts or will it weaken my defense too much ?

I've just woken up to see the RDM news. I wish I bothered to bookmark comments because as soon as RDM dropped Mata against WBA I said he should and will be sacked and what do you know...he's gone!

I'm still a little shocked and once again Chelsea show they have no patience. But it did seem like RDM was a dead man walking once their form fell.

Yeah, great observation! I also think it's a lesson on how silly it is to underrate a team like WBA for the sake of champions league. Goddamit I don't know what to think right now.

I do think he deserved the sack for resting Mata full stop.

To say someone deserved to be sacked because they rested their best player and paid for it one time is stupidity, every good manager has done it before. Another stupid post from Martinunreal, well done.

I really feel we're approaching a time in which Aguero is going to prove to be essential.

I've toyed with the idea of Tevez or Silva for City coverage. But it's clear to me that Aguero is the one.

I'm going to have to stump up the extra money to get him in somehow.
